Glasgow Botanic Gardens Underground Station 2011 HD - Urbex Derelict Abandoned Scotland Railway

Explored the station as a boy .... Usually entered from Kirklee station side and walked through to Kelvinbridge on Great Western Road. As a fireman during 80's I attended a couple of minor fires in station, usually rubbish. It was also a problem lowering a ladder down from railings and park above. Not something usually done.
mccheyne Surely that would be dangerous, depending on your implied meaning, as Kelvinbridge is an active Subway stop.
The former mainline Kelvinbridge station referred to is not the current fully operational underground station of the same name and there is no direct underground tunnel/ passageway connection between them. The station concerned is on the opposite, eastern bank of river Kelvin and on the platforms directly over and above the Kelvin The article and video refers specifically to the main line running under Botanic Gardens, through Botanic Gardens station and continuing under Great Western Road at Kelivinbridge, adjacent to Eastern exit of the tunnel. A park and ride car park occupies the former railway station and goods yard site. When I was young, the tunnel was freely accessed. No gated or restricted entry. You just turned up, with torch and wandered through tunnels. The only concern was hearing a voice coming along, echoing from the other end or possibly behind you. You just had to be careful. Once, in another tunnel under Ruchill, My pal and me hid in one of the side tunnel recesses until some' bigger boys', who did not have torches and were fumbling along, passed... That was the real scary and dangerous bit of exploring Glasgow's tunnels. I hope that clears up and answers your query.
Update on this train line- I'm 16, and me and a couple of my friends visited this tunnel recently in late summer of 2015. There is a 10ft flat metal wall which, without anything to boost you up is literally impossible to get over. Luckily, me and my friends found a couple of steel type fencing of the sort. We layed it up against the 10ft fence and it made it 100% easier to get over. With some muscle and effort, getting over is easy! When you are inside the tunnel, it is one of the best experiences you will ever have. At least that's the case for me. I absolutely loved it. And I couldn't wait to unravel this abandoned treasury! I've not stopped thinking about it since. We only went to the first station (featured in this video) and even at that, it was such a good day. It completely changed me. I actually revisited this train line on the Saturday that just passed, and we went to the first station again, but it started to get dark and we were hearing a lot of noises, so we headed back to
+reefercloud420 That last part of hearing "lots of noises" made me shiver a little, yes lot's of noises in a dark abandoned railway tunnel would make me want to head back to daylight
Oh, so it was you guys that left the fencing? A friend and I used it to get in as well. :) Still have some gorgeous pictures of that day.
What I love about these videos is how they help to romanticise the abandoned locations. I say that because I have thought of filming in the Botanics Underground Train Station - getting permission and such - but unless I had a very good scene with no dialogue, it would be fairly impractical to film because of the roaring Great Western Road road just above! That's the advantage of having videos like these which are purely aesthetic...wonderful stuff!
Botanic Gardens in Glasgow, fantastic place!
Love your videos, they're fantastic, although you can't see the people, it gives you a sense of what used to be. It's saddening. Videos like this give a sense of history. Again, superbly taken,
Scott
Thanks for this video it's brilliant to see it after such a long time. My brothers & I discovered the tunnel entrance that leads to this station back in the late 1960's just before we moved overseas but I'll never ever forget how brilliant it was to find this as a 8 yo. I'm just home from Glasgow and was happy to find the tunnel entrance again although it's heavily fortified this time so no exploring was to be had :*(
another beauty!!
beautiful video and soundtrack
These videos are fantastic. Really useful for location scouting when doing film. Thanks!
It is definitely worth visiting!
Deadmau5! Nice choice of music. Love your awesome critique of filmwork! Great job! :)
There's an old railway line that goes through Calton in Glasgow, quite amazing, platforms and everything, it's easy to get into! It's between Kerr St and Crownpoint Rd. (leads to a live railway line just before High St I'm sure)
@ScottMcK9 Thanks for saying so Scott, yeah we intentionally try not to feature us as much in the videos so that the places are the focus rather than us going into them.
I am glad you survived the bomb to film this mate !
eerie.
@Sosik23 Thanks I really appreciate you saying so! :) We've got plenty more places to come.
Fantastic!
Good video, haunting music, should go back at midnight on Halloween and who knows what you see
+Alan Morr Yeah I'd love to go back and see it again. Might be a struggle at night mind you!
+Abandoned Scotland Not advisable to go at night could be quite dangerous in the dark. I remember way back in the 1950's when I was a little boy seeing steam and smoke rising from that station when I was in the Botanic Gardens with my father and sister although I don't recall ever being on a train travelling on that railway
@TheMarabouStork Yeah Chernobyl and Pripyat would be amazing to visit I think, it's sad to see places left but I think it's important to keep them documented so they aren't entirely forgotten.
@rawrcalumx Thanks for the comment, yeah I'd love to see some films at these locations :)
@AbandonedScotland thanx
lol its a good hang out spot and it cant be reused because there are roads and parks at both sides of it, its not very long, about 400 meters tops, the rest is destroyed and built apon
@chris40539 They were removed from the line before they closed it, we did visit somewhere with a lot of old trains though that will be coming up in the next few weeks! :)
Pleanty of abandoned stations over here in london!
When they were applying for trams in Glasgow, this would have been a core part of the route. Unfortunately, they needed 'Royal Assent' from the UK Parliament, which they didn't get, and this great resource is going to waste. Instead, Scotland gets the Edinburgh 'trams'... (look at Sheffield or Croydon for a decent tram implementation).
Hopefully it will still be salvageable in the future if they decide to extend the subway.
@TVStudios123 It is! One of his demo tracks :)
@RedHeadRhii We went when there was an old fence that was broken, since then they've replaced it I believe. Some people have climbed the new fence though...
I know I'm extremely late but me and my friend are going there on Monday and I was wondering how to get in
I might go to this place today
Graet Film. I bet it was lovely in its day weldone m8 5/5
Tam
@LarryBundyJr The Beeching axe certainly did hit up north as well but this station was closed prior to the Beeching cuts but the line was finally closed due to them. I agree it was a scandal, we would probably have an amazing public transport system if it wasn't for those cuts!
@cathkinghost Yeah i'm sure there are still plenty of amazing things still to be found here. One of the arches was blocked off with a wall but the top of it had a hole leading through to somewhere ... I wonder where it went?
@cathkinghost Wow those pics do look good, I reckon they will just lead down to where the stairs but they have been welded shut at the top. It might be worth a wee look around though just to double check and see if there are any hidden gems.
@iamepicfailgirl That was the entrance we used iampicfailgirl but I think they put up that large metal door recently.
The main gate. We sat on that gate for about an hour waiting on our friends, as we were too scared to wait inside and didn't see the point of climbing down on the outside if we were to climb back over. My other friends ended up not being able to climb the fence (mind it was pouring with rain at this point) so we left it and went home. The next holiday I get which is really soon, I'm going with a couple of my friends, and I'm exploring the limits of this place even if it kills me. I hope this was of help to some of you.
Does anyone know where the blocked access with the steel wall is now
abandoned subway station in the Glasgow subway, Scotland
Thanx pal. I like that:-)
@cathkinghost Haha well I wouldn't mind going back if there was something worth seeing, have you got a link to the picture?
the trackbed is now a stream at 1:00
@TheCrispola Thanks :)
@colshythecomedian It's Deadmau5 - Bleed.
Where the trains of the Caledonian Railway once ran.
The line in '64. Building burned down in '70.
@davidgrahamscott Thanks David! :)
@iamepicfailgirl Where is that? Last time I went looking for it I couldn't find it.
What's the story behind it.
It got abandoned. You're welcome.
@@lololololololololololololol338 Your a riot.
The botanic station on Byers road,glasgow burnt down.
I am visiting Glasgow for some days. How can I get in this place?

@RaubElch Thanks :)
@NoobguestpwnerUK Is it?
@Brivonn1 Thanks :)
bit difficult now the tracks have gone....
hehe, the famouzs one. Nice job!
So very nice. Which city is it, abandoned scot?
Glasgow
Haha I've never noticed that before! :)
No chance of getting in now unfortunately. Big mental fencing, then a big fuck off metal door. :(
Must take my guitar down for recording heads up on noisy road dubbing required .Whata cool place to cleanup . Must go on the hunt . for entrance .Wow WELL DONE .
Entrance is just through main gates of botanic gardens , the entrance to the tunnel can be found at the west side of the ha,penny bridge ,over the river kelvin .
+fluxcapasitor Yes just before you reach the north end of Kelvingrove Park there is a tunnel of this railway. Where the small park is now used to be full of railway sidings and a goods yard near to where the Kelvinbridge Subway Station is
Oddly enough, many years ago singer Nanci Griffith was in Glasgow and did a song for BBC Scotland standing on the platform at the deserted station. I wonder what she thought of that? It was laziness on the part of BBC Scotland as their HQ was located just across the road at that time.
@aliasdeputydog Yeah I agree, if these transport links had stayed open public transport would have been a completely different service and no doubt better.
Question is: Why?
Was there tonight shat it
I'm just imagine something piping out like a zombie or something
Does anyone know how easy it is to access? Been researching this for a while for a group of us but don't want to waste a journey for nothing.
matthew newlands This is easy to access if you have a Union master key (easy to make)from three places along GWR old electric cable ducts.
@@gearboxobs419 how much do you rekon it would cost to get it restored and operational again?
Where abouts is it ?
+brendon Odonnell At the botanic gardens in Glasgow
I have wanted to for many years. it is my intention to create here a larger version of what I created at the bottom of Otago lane in the mid ninties. my group is called IRONLION and we will be known by our deeds.
@onlywhenpissed Yeah I had this discussion previously on the facebook page, I think if it's professional graffiti like what The Agents of Change do it can really enhance the place but wee idiots tagging their name on walls obviously I don't like.
This is scary?
I live in howwood and I went there and I saw a dead body :O
OMG, did you call the Police!?
Excellent film to demonstate the disgraceful waste of valuable transport resources that could be put back into Public service IF only someone at the top had the FORESIGHT and BALLS to do so.
all these abandoned places make me think of Chernobyl
Och, will ya nae watch oot for tha ghaistly wee train approaching frae the tunnel...
+Mark Johnson Bellend....
+rob b That will be MacBellend to you lad! Lovely wee name you have. Easy to write and remember.
