- This is part one of the four part series called Great Monster Truck Races of the 80s and 90s. This one focuses on some of the great and a few not so great early Monster Truck races of the mid to late 1980s
As much as I like going to modern monster truck shows, nothing beats watching the early days of the sport, when they were using actual truck bodies instead of cages covered in fiberglass panels.
I agree
Just like nascar
@@TripDaly_AndiTripDaily but at least in Nascar it's not cars with the shape of a fkn dinosaur
Eh, I thought the 2000s and early 2010s were better.
I still enjoy monster trucks but youre right, its not the same. I love the actual sheet metal bodies, the fiberglass im sure is easier to swap out as it gets damaged but doesnt look as good. Also miss the old racing format
I’m 50 years old. I absolutely remember watching these races when I was a kid and just loved it. Watching this footage now and the best part about it is seeing monster trucks when they were still trucks.
Absolutely with u
This was my childhood. Just amazing
Such a shame monster jam ruined it.
@@mikewilson2939 How did Monster Jam ruin it?
The good ole days !! who the hell can give this a thumbs down...
I love these old monster truck videos. So AWESOME.
Remember watching these on Saturday afternoons in Florida. After cartoons all morning, it was monster trucks till about 3pm lol. So grateful that I got to grow up in the 80s and 90s.
Thank you for sharing these great monster truck racing moments from the good old days.
Glad you enjoyed it
@@13thmafiaracing69 Nothing will ever top the monster truck racing like the 80's and 90's.
Türkiyeden selamlar çok teşekkürler ederim çocukluma geri döndüm güzel yıllardı
My Dad recorded a lot of Monster Trucks on VHS When I was growing up. He used them as a baby sitting tool lol! I watched those tapes over and over again until they wore out. Great to be able to watch on my Phone now! Thank you :)
I did too. My dad did the samething. My fondest memory of my childhood
Are you not able to recover at least some of the footage!
I miss this. When they started to have floppy ears and tails, i started losing intrest. Seeing these beautiful old trucks was such a big part of it for me.
Yeah it started to be more of an "entertainment production" aimed at kids more than an actual sport. The races are tame and tricks are limited. The days of open qualifiers and home builds are over. The best part was seeing what guys were building and bringing in. All the trucks are basically the same truck with diffrent cosmetics now.
@@ericthiel4053just like Nascar
@@ericthiel4053 sports been going downhill, at least Monster Jam has, since like 2015. 2017 was good though.
Boss' run at 1h 10min was incredible for truck of that era. Awesome footage. I remember a lot of these.
Born in 81', this was a great rip down memory lane. Nothing like stinking like exhaust for 3 days after seeing a show...
I Used to sit in front of the tv every christmas ,i live in the uk so when this was aired in Usa we only got to see one show every year!Classic Trucks Built by the Owners with pride and passion Gotta love the Bobbers"Due to leaf springs"
All the trucks I grew up watching, this is great! I laughed out loud when I saw the driver of Leadfoot get out and he's just wearing a flannel shirt and jeans, and Hot Stuff didn't have doors! 🤣 Winning first, have fun second, safety third!
Make sure and check out volumes two three and four and thanks for the view
those old trucks are so archaic in their ability to crush and jump, but man... some of those old trucks were beautiful. Like the Duraliner and the Krimson Krusher were beautiful show trucks I wish still existed today.
Man you wanna talk about the golden age of the NHRA! This was my childhood! I remember all these races and went with my father to witness this greatness! Real steel bodied trucks smashing the cars! We NEED to get a rennaisance of the tanks for real!! WTF happened to all the tanks?!
lol at 8:33 their info was off. Bigfoot #1 was the only one that used the big 640ci Hemi Ford engine. That was Bigfoot #6 in that race which was using a 540ci Ford stroker at the time.
Yea at 7:22 I didn't think this truck had a 640
1:09:32 omg both those guys were balls out. I love it! Good race!!
My first truck i ever saw live was king krunch, still my favorite with that old school paint job. That said the Virginia Giant is a darn pretty truck
Amazing video thank you for putting it on here
Thanks be sure to check out parts 2,3 and 4
Saturday mornings were made of this !!! ITV World of Sport had some class Motorsports !!! We didnt get much footage in England back then, but when we did,it was awsome !!! Remember it well, thanks for posting 😆😆😆😆
Thumbs up if you think the Firestones were cooler than the Goodyears
When I was Younger I Watched these Trucks Every chance I got. Even Recorded them.
Driving an open jeep like HOT STUFF with nothing but a regular seat belt is craziness
This is awesome footage! Thankyou for this. 90s was my childhood
Be sure to check out parts 3 and 4 that's the 90s
@@13thmafiaracing69 I plan on it. I'm still on this one for now
The Gravedigger team is something special.
1:09:14 very intense stage one monster truck race, none of this bogus crawling over cars and being careful not to break anything. These two trucks went balls out. Thank u for posting this.
That early J turn racing was intense!
Steve Dane is such a great guy. I got to meet him and Mark Brant at Mark's birthday party. Great guys.
Cool video, just seen the monster vette in Missouri last week.
Oh sweet where??? I'm in KC. I wish I knew how to keep track of the promotions cuz I'd go watch em. I guess Earthquake is in southern mo. Guys channel is Shaker Racing. About a year ago he helped put the monster tires on I think both monstervete and Frankenstein
@@capri8225 Carthage missouri at the lake kelloge car show. Wildstang is still stitting outside the museum in afton Oklahoma
@@darrellpowers6840 omg awesome wildstang was one of cliff's faster rides
I was at that event in Anaheim, CA. ('87 or '88?). I was really into monster trucks when I was a kid; Tuff Trax was a favorite of mine. Thank you for sharing these videos. I'll definitely watch the other parts when I get the chance. 👍
Fantastic Channel
Thank you very much!
When I was a kid in the 80's, all I knew about monster trucks was Bigfoot. Like, Bigfoot was THE Monster Truck.
Now this is what I grew up to, eating my cereal in front of the Tv😂😂👍👍✌️
1:23:13 dude awesome Kong 2 was so underated I hope that truck is living a decent life.
I saw a video awhile ago about a museum for monster trucks I believe awesome Kong is in it .
The Godzilla Monster truck is on display at the Greenport museum in Greenport ,Long Island, New York
AK II ran only year and it was cut up
Awesome Kong II was turned into too Skinny Kong and then I think it got scraped.
@@theskicker8856I remember skinny Kong. The driver was a younger guy...Steve Dane or Cain?
Thanks from the u.k .!
For some reason I was alwasy rooting for BigFoot as a kid and I have no idea why lol.. great video
Grave digger grave digger grave digger
Got me dying 💀
1:44:10 Hulk Hogan vs Andre the Giant!! This race was intense!!
1:38:15 God that's beautiful. Poor Brett...first night with a new truck and throws out the whole rear axle. Sux
Jim F’n Kramer- hanging out the window on leaf springs
This is when they used real trucks. I used to go to these all the time in the 80s and 90s
1:09:44 omg!!! Nice!!! All the videos I've seen with the Boss, that truck either runs good or that driver just dgaf lol
shows way better back then than it is now
Mike Galloway will always be my favorite monster truck racing commentator
him and Army Armstrong
I just left a monster jam and when they climb out of their trucks these days I can see them unlatching every safety harness possible. In this era I’m pretty sure the only Saftey harness they had was beer.😂….
Its definitely a stark contrast in comparison. Obviously the safety technology of today is a necessity for keeping drivers, crews, officials and spectators safe and i approve of it existing, but i do enjoy the rawness of the footage here where they have a helmet and maybe a seat belt or 2, but barely anything else in terms of safety. It got a charm to it that just isnt replicated today.
It will never stop being crazy to me that USHRA/Monster Jam ended up as the juggernaut of the sport since their racing was mostly terrible until about 1991 or so. Meanwhile TNT always had fantastic racing.
I wish Monster Jam would do more old-school style drag race events during the summer at places like West Lebanon. I’m so worn out on the almost constant Chicago-style iterations that make up about 90% of their schedule.
Fred shaefer has even a rollover hommage in the crash&crunch video
It's funny to hear Mike Galloway refer to Duraliner Giant as the Virginia Giant.
It’s crazy how little they could do back then and now they are flying 30 foot in the air and doing backflips and back then they could barley get over the cars
would love to know where Orange Blossom Special is now
1:24:00 that commentary was priceless😂😂
That was part of the fun. Now the trucks are crazier, but not as entertaining as the 80s imo
@@privateprivate1865 agreed
I grew up on this stuff Bigfoot is y I luv ford trucks lol
1:10:21 dayum...impressive stuff
Its hard to believe this is where re it all started
I just need a time machine now……
1:49:45 I'd fire that guy talking. Whoa whoa whoa...Mike Galloway was the best. Good play by play guy
That's the one and only Dave Grim and yes he sucked lol
They have come so far now they all got 1,500 HP
Watching this old trucks makes ya wonder whatever happened to them? They sitting in the weeds somewhere?
They were either scrapped or retrofitted into ride trucks for county fairs or sold either domestically or overseas or repainted and renamed or some combination of any of those. I've seen photos of some of them sitting rotting rusting & faded in the woods with the engines removed on dry rotted tires
@@jamesnoble3502 i love to find them old pictures of them in the weeds
That's what I'm talking about!
Damn, I miss this style of monster truck racing so damn badly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FELD sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1:40:59 - "Termbo and Rambinator! Terminator and Rambo! Terminator and Rambo!"
This shows why America is the greatest country in the wold.
It was back in these days
But now its run by a geriatric president.
Bring back the man of steel
Donald Trump
Greetings from the uk
Let's go Brandon 😂
LOL creepy Joe!!
Wold 😂, are u sure ur not geriatric
Man even the brits know it!!! Well said!!!
hahahahahaa greatest country hahahaha
12:42 this is like glass Joe vs glass Joe
🤣🤣🤣
Sorry...no disrespect to cliff Starbird or glass Joe.
Its all boring now, i miss my childhood 😢
Sad thing is the cars they drove over 99% of them had no problems they were just old and people back then bought new cars every 2 years as people looked down on you if you drove an old car..Thats how it was very odd times, great times but....Those old cars did have 200,000 -400,000 miles as 5 digit odometers people always thought they always had under 99,999 not so if you know you know.Still at 300,000 those old cars worked better than todays cars!
In the 80's I drove 60's and 70's cars all the way to 2005 as daily drivers and on nice days since 2005 thats about 30,000 miles per year in restored classics!
80's might have the best music but I'm glad to see how monster trucking developoed over the decades.
Ever wonder how many rare cars were crushed by monster trucks lol
Who's the 1999 monster jam schedule
whats the clip at 1:25 ?
1:44:39 where Jim took him
That’d be so awesome if they let driver still take passengers while racing
Back when monster truck tires where just tires Until bkt tires was brought in.😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒
Kim kramer always leaning out of bug foot 😂 imagine doing that today
alot of drivers did that because it was easier to see where their front tire is. now days they sit in the center with clear plexiglass at the bottom to see both tires
@cool3865 yeah today isn't really trucks just a space frame with fibreglass bodies
Bigfoot > all the other trucks
1:09:44 does this look edited? Helluva hop
Edited ? lol did you see the replay he just launched that thing and they were leaf spring trucks so they did hop and bounce not sure where you're going with that question in 1987 or 88 they didn't have the ability to edit video like that and I certainly did not alter the video like that
Rolling thunder vs Monster Mash from Battle of the Monster Trucks classic
Much better when they were real trucks.
0:38 he's doing WHAT?
Which event was 2:02
Awesome Kong and Bigfoot was TNT Houston 1989 night 2 the race before that with grave digger and four wheel crazy was ushra Houston I think 90 or 91
Why so bouncy
The lack of safety features is staggering! On the other side those are car bodies they use, not that flimsy plastic crap they use today.
Seeing this, and having seen a monster jam show last month, makes me realize how much monster truck shows suck now.
As an Englishman that was born in the 90’s this is just posh drag racing, only watched 2 mins of it🙄 can we enter mass destruction, grave digger, el toro loco into this, far more entertaining. Yes I know grave digger was there but he evolved unlike others💪🏻
For one the intro is 2 minutes it also says 80s and 90s not 2000s or modern if you want grave digger or newer trucks they appear in the 90s which is part 3 and 4 but obviously you don't get the concept or the description of the video
0:33 i think bro doens't say grave digger
These are the REAL MONSTER TRUCKS.
Today they are simply big overgrown Off road buggies doing silly tricks.
1:46:00 id be so pissed lol
Back when advertising was ruled by tobacco 😎
I’m sitting at a monster jam show right now … yikes it’s boring. I asked my father if I’m remembering it wrong as I haven’t been since I was a kid… nope. Be warned monster jam is not great these days! It's like watching a ballet. No car crushing! No dragon! No moto bike race! It's all about voting "for social media" over who dies the best identical trick... just in case you thought about taking the kids some day I wish I hadn’t
they cant do car crushing anymore, there are videos on why, but the cars of the 90s and early 2000s are made of plastic and are flimsy, they crush way to easily and barely last one truck.
Now it’s all freestyle nonsense, bring back the racing.
Oh, they still had racing, though it less anticipated than the Freestyle, to be honest with you as a 2000s kid. To be honest, the sport today is also alien to that era.
nobody is wearing helmets... Dudes were tough in them days
