The combination of your level of prowess and your willingness to teach well and clearly is a rare thing. Generally people would charge an arm and a leg to share this type of expertise, but you simply make the world better by sharing what you know for free. That's the mark of a good heart. Thanks for doing what you do.
Time spent watching a Matt Johnson video is always time well spent. And time, as we know, is a precious asset.
I've been looking all my life for this type of advices, and I'm 50 !!! Many thanks from France
Welcome!
Dude is a vibe machine
This channel is somehow still so underrated it's ridiculous
That’s because this generation is to busy learning how to sample others people music and looping it until it bleeds , instead of learning how to actually make music.
Your tutorials are truly unparalleled. So practical and exactly what a player like me looks for. It’s easy to find loads of theory lessons but most of it is in a jazz context and it’s hard to find good advice on how to actually groove in a non jazz setting and your tips are always spot on
I love how you use as little 'theory language' as possible and more of 'show and tell' approach to explain yourself absolutely killing it on the keys. No long explanations, no mind bending theories, just simple grooves and rythms. On top of that a lot to learn from and improve. May God continue to bless you with growth and knowledge ❤
Master classes from a legit world-class musician. I'm gobsmacked. And your enthusiasm is utterly infectious. Cheers
Matt. Thank you. Wonderful stuff. All I need now is the dedication and another 70 years. But I'm going to try!
I do wanted to do a little dental work on that chipped Jupiter key in the background. It just kept distracting me!
Hitting complete chords with the left hand while soloing? Didn’t know that is even possible! Multitracking was especially invented for me you know! 😂
☝️this! 😂
*Dude is this really new to you? 😂*
@@Dadee3 of course not but left hand comping is not one of my strong points. 😁
@@marcbrasse747 *I see*
Yeah, it really takes some hard work to get this stuff down, but it’s totally worth it. So keep practicing fellas!
Thank you for this awesome video! For someone who is not a musician like me, this is the best way to spend the evening after work. Forget about watching tv or any other kind of passive consumption, do something that is a hell lot of fun to do instead, and in the meanwhile develop a skill that remains for a lifetime.
Matt you made my day….Being a complete beginner into keys, this is very valuable teaching to me. I know that there is a lot of practising waiting for me….but this is somehow a base that i can resonate with very well… thx for sharing❤
I would love to see more tutorials like this!! I understand what you mean... 🥰 I can hardly believe it!!! Matt Johnson - King of Keys ❤
I appreciate the way you encourage your Audience, Matt (at 5:36 and later on), both for the specific ideas you're sharing and for playing Keys in general. Thank You!
You really are a phenomenal player
❤️🎹❤️
I love these videos
been playing the piano for 15 years. only getting into improv though, and i suck pretty bad. would love to sound like you one day. but it's always warming to hear a professional say "this stuff isn't easy, you're not going to be able to do this immediately". the amount of work required is often understated
That's true. I want to make the point nobody can just do it straight away!
Matt you're a musical angel, thanks to you I'm more motivated than ever to play the keyboard and progress (I only started two months ago). Even though what you teach can be very complex, everything is clear and seems accessible as you work. For me this is priceless, THANK YOU!
Thank you Matt Johnson! Just what I needed to see!
Spectacular talent, Sir ! ❤
Some chords I would never think of to play! I love your playing, even though jazz is not my cup of tea.
Your video really helps me to hear how to improve my left hand !
Man, I love your instructional content but would be just perfectly content hearing you jam indefinitely. Love it man, thank you!
Wonderful tips. Thank you. Have a lovely evening.
Your tutorials are some of my favourite. I love the honesty about hours put in with some very incremental gains. Thanks Matt!
Thank you Matt for another very informative video! 🤘☺🖑
Matt Johnson and Mike Lindup are among the most important keyboard players in modern music , their bands Jamiroquai and Level 42 have recorded some of the best british (and not british)funk (disco-jazz-soul-pop)songs of all times, their musicianship is stellar .....these Musicians makes world a better place to live.
Precious jewels of wisdom! Thank you Matt, very inspiring.
Very cool Matt
It’s important to play the right thing with the left hand so you don’t interfere with the bass player
Love your videos Matt
I thought you sounded like Herbie then you mentioned him. Very informative video. The language you use to describe your solos is so precise.
I’m not joking I play very little but these videos make me understand chords more and also how the chords move from it’s so so cool Matt!! Truly understanding chordal movement and more!!! Love this mate!!! Makes it a pleasure for me to be a part of your project!!😊❤
Another incredible well done lesson from Matt Johnson. Thank you so much! 👍
My favourite thing about Piano/Keyboardists is that left hand, COMPING. It's what I listen to the most when listening to Piano. Gotta share this with my Keyboardist 😉😎
Greetings from Uganda 🇺🇬👊🏿🖤🤍
So cool. I’ve always loved your work man. Thanks for the tutorial.
Yah love your lesson tutorials!!! thank you so much!!!
Thanks Matt for showing the music in such a practical way.
Wow! It is a delight to hear you play and there is so much to learn from this. Thanks!
Bringing that smokey heat. Thank you for taking the time to teach us. 😊
Wonderful, I love so much generosity. Thank you so much Matt for sharing these resources so clearly and inspiringly. Greetings from Chile.
whatta beauty this chord progressions (and everything else of course))). when you begin to do it instinctively, that's when the magic happens. thanks for video!
Much love from italy my legend! ❤
Hey Matt, TH-cam has been hiding your videos bro. Love the content!
Yeah the algorithm doesn’t like me!
Beautifully tasteful, and played with great feel. Great explanation too!
My guy this was so smooth and instructive, thanks for blessing us.
THRUST! YES! 💯 Cheers for that.
Your genuine enthusiasm for music is really infectious and had me smiling and wanting to practice more. Thank you!
When Mat says, play something simple over the top like this,
and then just kills it …
😂
Wicked vibes ❤
Absolute magic again. I feel this funk stuff... Thanks again!
The chord progression is so beautiful🎵🌹💐🌹🎹👍👏👏👏👏👏
I'm not a keyboard player but I'm in love for your stuff! Can't wait to hear what you've been cooking with Jamiroquai for the next album and about your solo stuff as well!!
Thanks so much for the help
Dominant , Half diminished and Half diminished ∆
Thank you for the lesson, this is wisdom and great practice material you've dropped on us here.
It's an absolute pleasure watching your playing, and thanks for all the insights. Keep up the awesome work man!
The great Matt Johnson ladies and gentlemen 😮😮😮😮
Great video buddy. I have been self learning for 3 year's. Started due to the pandemic. And and head illness. Wanted to keep my cognitive abilities up due to having brain fog with memory problems.
I found everything hard. Had a ns bang on the head a year later and for some weird reason, everything was easy. 2 years later I have wrote 80 plus song's. Learned manyb of my song's. " I can't make u love me " Jamie foxx ", heaven " to name a a few.
I Nedd to learn more left handed stuff. Not due to myself finding it difficult. Just I need to take it to next level. Enjoyed your video very well. Great stuff 👌
I love your videos! That call and response trick is so obvious once you think about it!! I’ll be practicing it and coming back to this video for sure!
Inspiring tutorial Matt. Thank you. You make it look effortless and enjoyable.
Love this, very informative! Love the way left and right work together and especially love the left hand chords!
Thank you so much 🙏🏾
Such a dude. Thanks Matt.
Your tutorial is very inspirational, thanks ❤
Thanks Matt ❤
Merci a vous pour tous vos conseils,ça m'aide beaucoup ❤
Beautiful and aspirational. I need to practice. Thanks always, especially for the left hand lessons
Beautiful music
This is cool as, and with consistent practice take me to the next level, thankyou sensei ❤
Matt…Wonderful stuff mate! Thanks for the time and help. Lovely little gems here 🎹😊
Thanks for sharing your knowledge 🙏
Nice one Matt. Will try some of this for sure. Great vid. J
Another great little lesson. Thankyou Matt 🙌😎
Thank you!
Thanks for posting things like this, Matt. Awesome!
I need to hear this about twice a week 👏😆 5:50
Thanks Matt! Very helpful.
Love these lessons. Always inspires and motivates me to improve. Thank you!
wooooooo! another matt johnson vid! i'm only at 0:20 and i can't help but comment! it's so good!
Fantastic tutorial as always!
Great and inspiring lesson!
I love how you stick to the scale with your right hand so that we can focus on the voicings of the left hand. With scalechanges you would come across even more advanced but i wouldn't get what you are saying at all. I will groove on this pedalthing in cm! Nice things to try out!!
thanks Matt - ❤🎹
great lesson keeping it real! I keep forgetting you are a freaking rock star as well !!!
Thank you! 🙏🏼
Nice tutorial, jazz is not really my thing so its always interesting to be reminded of this approach to harmony.
Thanks for being.
Thank-you :)
Great video, really helpful!
Thanks for this. Some really good tips here. Way above my skill level (at the moment!), but some good stuff to aim at.
I have understood in recent y that trying to syncopate rhytmically w left hand def lifts the performance! But i tend to forget it sometimes, concentrating on the right hand! Lol Thanks for this! Levi
6:07 Moloko - Sing It Back
Man, I get such a buzz watching your vids. You make me actually start believing I could play a bit like that even though I know I’ll just end up getting frustrated and fading out… until your next vid comes along!
All these statements about Matt are 100 percent true. And more.
Thanks for the video man!! ❤❤👍👍👍✌️✌️✌️👏👏👏😎😎🥂
brilliant, thank you!
This time i am not late to watch your great tutorial.
Funny : yesterday just practiced again your “” 5 hot licks to sound clever “” video after a long pause in my Matt Johnson licks and today just get another great tutorial.
May i ask u if you could make some midifiles compilation of the little songs you always play in the intro of all your tutorial? They are always great to listen and play .
Anyway still the best of the best Utube channel ( with the one from Anthony Marinelli , more focused on sound design ) . Thanks a lot for your time , patience, and kindness. Cheers from France , philippe
Awesome thanks Matt!
I’ve always wanted to do those 16th chord left hand stabs like Brian Auger, a bit similar I guess to the herbie style you mention, I need to take a year off work and woodshed this stuff!
Gold.
My weak left hand thanks you for these tips, Matt!
He's backk 🔥
Thank you Matt!!! Love your tutorials- sending pm w request along these lines
Matt honestly I envy your beautiful fender rhodes and minimoog. I mean it in a good way, you are a fantastic player 👍
