  • This video briefly demonstrates a very lightly used original Denshi-Gakken Electroni-Kit EX-System EX-150.
Released in 1976 in Japan, the EX series was available in the UK from at least 1978. The EX electronic kits comprised a series of units in which the number indicated how many experiments were included in the accompanying manual. Numerous variants were available from the base-level EX-15 kit all the way through 30, 60, 100, 120, 150, or even 181 experiments. Any of these stages could be purchased initially, and complete upgrade paths were made possible using the various add-on kits. Additionally, an FM tuner "block" was also available.
In the UK the EX-150, seen here, was the top-of-the-line model from Electroni-Kit; who did not offer the EX-181. This particular unit can be dated to some time after the second-half of 1979 when Electroni-Kit updated the correspondence address, as noted in the include literature, to Rectory Court, Chalvington, East Sussex.
In 2002 Gakken reissued the EX-150 kit in Japan. While the reissue is largely identical, a small number of changes were made to accommodate component availability. Despite officially not being available in English, a PDF of the translated instructions manual was made available through some western resellers.
Here the unit is configured for Experiment No. 45 1-Transistor + IC Amplifier Reflex Radio (Transformer Load), which is the shipping state of the unit.
While there are limited AM radio stations remaining in the UK, the unit was successfully tuned in to two different broadcasts and a brief bumper from BBC Radio Scotland can be heard.

I got one of these as a child. This was one of my dearest possessions, and I still have it.
