  • @HobbiesRfun

    As a kid growing up in the seventies, who went on long road trips in my parents 75 Chevy Caprice station wagon, I loved watching all the big rigs, and stopping at cafes for meals, and listening to the truckers sitting around the bar area telling their tales of the road.
    My favorite trucks were the Freightliner COEs, along with Kenworth conventionals, and the Kenworth COE Aerodyne. You can thank the movie Smokey and the Bandit, along with the TV shows Movin On, and B.J. & The Bear for the Kenworth fetish. Of these classic rigs, I noticed more Freightliners than the other makes. It was like for every Kenworth, Peterbilt, and International I saw, there were two or three Freightliner COEs. I could be wrong, since I was just a little kid at the time, and those memories are unfortunately fading with age.
    Wish the human brain came with a CD drive, and we had CDs back then, so I could pop a CD in my head, download all those fond memories and images, and see them now in full detail.

    I just saw this truck yesterday 10/6/16 in Redding CA !!!! So awesome!!!!
    Kevin was with his partner in crime who was running that new (freshly redone?) sweet cabover Pete. I passed them and was waving like a little kid !!!! it's getting so rare to see a coe in California let alone something this priceless. thank you Chris for all that you do and Kevin and Todd for making my day on I-5 !!!!

    Very nice truck. Really love the sound of that Detroit. I cut my teeth in a cab over but have been in a hood for the last 15-18 years. Kinda miss the old coe days but really like the room and convenience the hood offers.
    Glad to see you are keeping a tradition alive and doing your father proud.

    • @jonsexton17
      @jonsexton17 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Y’all go check out mtu Detroit diesel. They design and manufacture modern two strokes only thing that sucks is they are mostly large v type mining truck and generator set engines v-12 v-16 v-24. also mtu Detroit diesel is the same Detroit diesel that made these sweet sounding engines it’s a partnership between the two companies.

    Awesome video and truck. I have an 87 freightliner cabover I bought 4 years ago. Truck sat in the weeds for about 7 years. 350 big cam. 9 spd. 355 rears. Been rebuilding her a little at a time. Just a few more small things to do and hopefully she'll be road ready in about a month. Pretty much same situation. Only paid $1500 for the truck. Man was getting ready to scrap it. Have done all the work myself. No better feeling having a truck you owe noone for. Just put time and money into it when I could. Now the progress has paid off.

    I have ALWAYS LOVED cab over's, especially the "Freight Shaker" known as a Freightliner. In March of '93 I hired on with Inco Express Inc, OWNED by ONE Man, the late Victor Dipetro... Good Man. After I completed my OTR training by Paul Bray, ( he trained me how to be A PROFESSIONAL truck driver, THANKS Paul), I was assigned truck#5285, it was 1985 a 9 speed Freightliner cab over with NO power steering, NO A/C. That truck has some BALLS !!....I LOVED that truck more than my ol' lady. I believe I've seen that truck and the driver at a truck stop in Chehalis Wa??....

    drove one of those years back. 1988.same cab,425 cat,13 over.had to be careful when you lifted the cab. when you put it back down,you had to give the jack a few extra pumps when the cab landed on mounts to keep the gear stick in place.the one thing the trucker never said; damn i had too many straps on that load!

    I used to haul tracks for bulldozers for the mines in Northwest New Mexico from the shop when they were repaired. I started out using two chains per track. As time progressed. I used three straps per track. They held and it was easier to adjust and install.

      Nothing better than an old cabover weither your running a Detroit or a cat , I'm not a trucker but I want to be a diesel gypsy in an old school truck but I have a few hiccups on my license so it will be harder to get my cdl, but I'm willing to wash trucks for a year if I have to to get my cdl, trucking race cars and michanic work is in my blood, I'm adopted but I have truckers in my biological family and in my adopted family , it's been my life long dream and I will 34 in September
