    "I took a shower, I did my hair"... Channeling your inner Sinatra Lennon, 🤣 Until 5 months ago, I used the Extreme on my head because of the flex in the blade. It did a great job, until I learned to shave my dome with a DE razor. I still have some kicking around and will have to use them at some point.. I have one puck of Williams Mug Soap left, unfortunately they are no longer making it (Mar 22), so I am reluctant to open the package. Great shave as always Paul. Take care! 💈🪒🍁

    I'm on my 18th shave with the X3 and it's still going strong, amazingly. I enjoy mixing things up, using DE, cartridges and disposables. Using just DE bores me. I get excellent results with all three. What you consider dragging is more likely the skin guards lifting the skin.

    • @misterlexx2721
      @misterlexx2721 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are right. The microfins pull the skin to give it a very close shave. Cartridge razor and cartridge disposables eliminate the need to pull your skin manually. I embrace a well engineered modern razor.

    the enormous difference between DE shaving and disposable razor shaving is the pleasure during the event of shaving , DE shaving is a remarkable process where the person is taking more time and care during the shave and among all of that he is also enjoying the scent of the wide range of soaps he has in his den, even the blade is giving him a feeling of control , when disposable razor shaving is only a job he has to do in the morning , which he does has a routine as fast as possible before going to work . saludos de Mexico

    I am EXTREMELY glad to see you shave this way for another reason. So many Wet Shavers have become so militant, snobbish and snotty in the advocation of the hobby or rude and intolerant of others that I often find their company undesirable. Thank You for this presentation.

    Around 2002, I started headshaving with the Merkur Futur on setting 4, doing an Against the growth pass. It gives a great smooth shave with no issue. Funny to watch you use the disposable razor, I can't imagine trying one now after 28 years of de shaving. Thanks for taking one for the team. LOL

      @@VikingShaver you're right, for most guys carts are better. Some guys that have issues with very sensitive skin, acne, ingrown hairs, etc are better off DE shaving and would be fine with anything that resembles a Gillette tech like a Lord l6 or l5 which is what I learned to de shave with. Any of the Lord blades are also good and cheap. Barbasol can also compete against any shaving soap. Proraso aftershave is one of the best products around and all you will need. DE shaving and accumulation of different razors, blades, soaps, etc is a hobby that guys enjoy.

But I just personally find Fusion 5 carts provide excellent shaves - but not on cheap looking plastic handles. I own 12 high end stainless steel handles for my Fusion 5 carts. I far prefer a DE razor on 1-day stubble, causes far less irritation. But as oils build up on my skin, I prefer Fusion 5 on 3-4 day stubble. I normally shave 2-3 times a week. • @10floz30minutes
      @10floz30minutes 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some disposable razors and cartridges can be rinsed cleanly - for a while, a few shaves; but then eventually some hair & soap gets stuck and remains, and the surface that goes to the skin becomes increasingly harder to clean after each shave without going to extreme methods to try to clear them. One of the better ones seems to be Gillette Fusion 5.

    Barbasol is still excellent, regardless how it's applied. As for the cartridges, I still use them on occasion for travel and clean-up passes, if necessary. For me, the cartridges shave close but they always give me ingrown hairs, also irritation with numerous swipes. For those inclined: spray some Barbasol into your favorite shave soap while lathering. It lathers a treat.

Since I changed over to DE my skin is much better and I do not use a steroid cream any more. My favourite razor is the Merkur Progress long handle. I used Bic single blade disposable razors for a while before buying a Mach 3 which I continued using until recently. Well, those sure do the job, but ultimately cost much higher than de razors. Add to that the amount of plastic that would have to be discarded, and it all makes sense why de razors are a better investment.

    First of all, thank you Mrs. H for another beautiful intro flower display. Second, thanks, Paul, for the trip down cartridge shaving memory lane. I am curious how long it had been since you used one. The one positive I got from this shave is that Barbasol from the can will provide a thick and slick protective lather. It's hard for me to use cost as the reason for not using cartridge razors. I have spent far more on shaving products (razors, soaps, splashes, etc.) since going back to DE shaving than I ever did when I used cartridge razors. The rabbit hole of wet shaving is wide and deep. For me, DE shaving is all about the process and enjoyment of shaving. Plus, I get a closer, smoother, and more comfortable shave using DE razors than I ever did using cartridges. BTW, I laughed when you said, "I took a shower and did my hair." I hope SinatraLennon catches that. I'll see you again on Saturday...and Sunday.

Have a great week and i look forward to the hot and spicy.

    Hardest part I had trying a cartridge again was how hard I had to put pressure on the razor for it to cut lol. At first it just pulls but when you press to the point where you'd take layers off with a DE, then it cuts lol.
    If I have to use a cart I prefer the bic "sensitive" single blade disposable.
    Instill use barbasol with my DE. I prefer the purple one. Got lots of good stuff in it to counteract the drying ingredients.

    I can recommend you to to try a Gillette Fusion 5 in the rust red version next time, Paul. I thumb strop my carts before, during and after the shave and get 40-50 shaves from the same cart. I use heavy quality handles for my carts, just like a DE razor handle. If I shave daily and want it super close, I prefer my DE razors, but when I shave twice a week, my Fusion 5 gives me awesome close irritation free shaves. And I of course use a brush and a high quality shaving soap for all my shaves whether I use a cart or a DE. I use my DE technique for my carts now and get very little to no irritation. Beautiful arrangement, Mrs H. I adore the way the orange roses contrast against the white blooms; a truly inspiring display of colour. Paul, I really loved this video. It reminds me exactly why I will never use a disposable razor ever again. I just wish more people who are unaware of the advantages of a DE razor could be directed to this video and throw their plastic rubbish in the bin for the very last time. Cheers, Bobby Gillette (ssssshhh ... you know who) 😉.

    I think the cream and brush flattered that razor mate plus your technique, I switched from a Mach 3 turbo 10 years ago and after dialling in my technique my skin improved so much , I now have 7 razors with a Rockwell 6s also in post

    In 35 plus years I’ve only used cartridge when on holiday abroad.. never the same as DE..no need for multi blades , one good sharp one is enough.. not used Barbados for years but may give it a go now.. great vid Paul 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    Every episode starts off like some Final Fantasy game. And that's a compliment.
    Btw! I used to use the same razor, it's a Schick extreme flex razor.
    My SOTD was a Edwin Jagger copy, forgotten natural soap not ment for shaving, vewlix badger brush, and a modified Pinaud aftershave with peppermint oil and tea tree oil.

    Hi Paul.
    I request you use a disposable razor for three and a half passes then a DE straight after to see what the disposable missed.
    Also I recommend you try Boots citrus cologne. Inexpensive. Large amount and freshness to die for!
    I know you will love it!

    Hi Paul. One thing I`ll say about the aerosol foams, they rinse easily and quickly. I think they were developed back in the fifties because Gillette came out with the very mild blue black and red razors. The foam would rinse out easily with no clogging or very little. Anyway I enjoyed it and now back to de joy. Ha. Take care.👍

    I must say for the cheap disposable razor that you didn't cut yourself at all! Forget the alum block and the witch hazel, it is a rarity but you did not get a single nick! I don't care for the disposable ones either but that is interesting!

    I can't stand cartridge razors anymore, since I switched to DE shaving back in 2012 (blimey, typing that I've only just realised how long ago it was). But having said that, my wife got me a Leaf razor earlier this year and I really love that - I tend to kind of alternate between my selection of DE razors and the Leaf.

    explaining in a few words , DE shaving is always resulting in BBS ( baby bottom shave ), DFS ( damn fine shave ), PAS ( perfectly adequate shave ) and disposable razor shave ends as a VLS ( very lousy shave ) regards from mexico

    • @10floz30minutes
      @10floz30minutes 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      "VLS" depends on the quality of the razor. There ARE some cheap disposable razors which give a very poor shave, and there are some excellent ones which really do give good shaves.

    Go easy on that barbasol Paul because, the price for it on Amazon has gone through the roof! I recently finished mine, and when I looked to get another, it was around the £30 mark with a £15 delivery! I remember buying a can when I was in the U.S for about $5! So it's a bit of a daylight robbery! 🙄

  • @2010stoof

    Cartridge razors do work. They cost alot. But then again having shaving as a hobby can. But there's no enjoyment. You can "strop" the head the opposite way you shave with it against your jeans to help extend the life. But even though most talk about coat savings, to me it's about enjoying something most people see as a chore and have to do.
    Most that see my collection can't understand "enjoying" shaving
    Oh and barbasol here is pretty cheat at $1-$1.50 USD. But lately they've changed to 7oz cans at most places for the same price lol. But Walmart still sells the bigger cans at normal price.
    If you can, try the purple one. But they're all ok. I use them and have all of them including many discontinued ones.

    Barbasol and throw away razors are junk, yea it will get you a shave but so many better options. I used a Gillette Mach 3 & a gel canned shave cream. I’ve moved on and so happier for it 💈 thanks for sharing Paul.
