      Thank you! I had fun doing this video and it helped me remember what the cream in a can experience was like.

    Great shave and comparison. I don't remember who, but somebody bowl lathered their Barbasol adding water to it.

    I usually keep a can of Barbasol kicking around for body shaving for implanting medical devices, but for face shaving I’m all artisan, it just flat out works better for me and leaves my fave super hydrated, whereas canned foam dries out my skin. Great video Matthew and have an awesome day!

      Your right, I believe the foam dehydrates the skin. Thanks for watching!

    Proraso makes a pretty good foam which works great with a slick preshave under it like cremo or their own preshave if you're stuck without a brush or an artisan soap. But nothing beats an artisan soap that lasts all day long even after the shave.

      I have seen their foam but have never tried it. Might be a good one to try sometime. Thanks for watching Ron!

    I believe too the truth that "water is slickness". How to find out, one day I made a lather having too much water so the lather seemed thin. I still shaved with it, and it was fine; in fact a very good shave with only mild irritation.

    • @lawrence1md
      @lawrence1md  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s one reason I think tub loading is not a good idea. The paste is so thick and you have to add water and more water, while the soap is drying your face. Thanks for watching!

    Great experiment and comparison explanation. BTW: I don't know about canned foam (no experience with usage) but from my calcs a 4oz jar of Artisan soap should last 60 shaves or so using quarter teaspoon scoops, that would be for worst case of 0.07oz / shave, so the cost per shave is about 25cents/shave and even less for say Stirling 5.8oz tub.👍🤠

      @lawrence1md  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your right somehow my brain did not compute. Hehehehe! Somehow I wrote down the wrong numbers. You can see how that would drastically change the amount of water needed vs what is in the 10 oz can of foam. Thanks for watching Lawrey!

  • @10floz30minutes
    @10floz30minutes ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You can do something about the foam-in-the-can being not very wet; and that is to both pre-wet you face and to use a brush. Trouble is that although this can work, it IS MORE WORK, and you may need more of the shaving foam. I have tried that a couple of times and it is effective, but on the other side, making a shaving lather with a normal shave soap, no need to pre-wet the face.

      I think the idea behind Barbasol is convenience, profit and then comfort. It does work but once you have felt better it’s hard to go back. Thanks for watching!

    Great video! I think the average person should really consider using an artisan soap with a brush, regardless of what razor they use. That's made the biggest improvement in my mornings. Some people just can't get used to single blade shaving, but they should still spend a bit more time on face prep. It's just more enjoyable.

    Hi Matthew. I agree with everything you mentioned. Just a quick question. This gel you used at the end, is this your home made gel? Can you maybe share the ingredients?

    • @lawrence1md
      @lawrence1md  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes this is the stuff I’ve made. The ingredients are items you buy online. Water, alcohol, glycerin, coconut oil derivative, organic alcohol, siloxane polymer, copilymer, cetearyl alcohol, allantoin, menthol, surfactant, glyceryl ether. Thanks for watching!

    I still have a can of Barbasol and recently was in a hurry so used it to bypass the brush. I guess it's better than dry shaving but just doesn't compare to a good lather, since it does feel dry and has no lubricity. Barbasol also has their "1919' gel in a tube that is very slick and does a much better job. I just realized that I can't remember the last time I saw you use one of your PAA Cubes. Why not?

    • @lawrence1md

    I agree that Barbasol feels dryer and doesn't have the same slickness right out of the can. I have used a wet brush to lather Barbasol and the extra water does add to the slickness. And I do use Barbasol when I want a quick shave with less cleanup. However, I'm with you when it comes to a more enjoyable and better shave using artisan soaps. Definitely worth 50¢ per shave. I'm sure most wet shavers laugh at themselves for ever thinking that DE shaving was going to save them money versus cartridge shaving 😂

    • @lawrence1md
      @lawrence1md  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There’s a big trade off on de shaving and cartridge razor shaving. Once you hit that breaking point of a enjoyable shave you forget about the attempt to save money. I’d say it’s worth it as long as you don’t go over board. Thanks for watching Bart!

    You started to talk briefly about usage and price. These can be tested and measured. One person's use price can be different than another person's use price.
