Tim Minchin is many things, he doesnt like to be pigeon holed. He has been a comedian, an actor, a playwright, a producer and director, a talented composer with 2 Broadway musicals under his belt, a voice actor, a masterful pianist and a singer with a current record deal. You cant just say Tim is a comedian or a singer, hes a bonafide genius with many many talents
Love Tim Minchin. Yes, he is a talented comedian, singer, actor, song writer.... He is the composer & lyricist for the Tony winning Broadway musical, Mathilda the Musical and played Judas in Andrew Lloyd Webber's acclaimed tour of Jesus Christ Superstar. He has acted on TV. His song writing can be irreverent, funny and beautiful. One of my favorite songs on my holiday music playlist is his "White Wine in the Sun" - it is about the commercialization of Christmas and about his love of his family, getting together at Christmas in Australia where they drink white wine in the sun. Tim Minchin is a genius, thank you for your reaction today.💜
One of the most talented musicians in the world right here. Tim Minchin has written the entire musical scores for Broadway musicals and his piano skills are some of the best I’ve ever seen. For example, he has pulled off a song where he actually sings in F sharp and plays piano in F (this ain’t easy to do at all!), he also has one where the piano simulates vocal intonation, he often incorporates ad-lib piano solos into his concerts too.
If you're looking for more Tim Minchin to check out (and I hope you do), everyone and their brother will probably recommend Prejudice, so, I'll put some other options on the table: Not Perfect; White Wine in the Sun; Play It Safe; and if you want to see him almost literally murder a piano, the "Awesome Version" of Dark Side.
Tim started off in music comedy after not getting anywhere with his music career. Got his break at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2005 and after that regularly toured and appeared on TV (mainly in the UK and Australia, where he is from). Hasn't done any new musical comedy for over a decade (with the exception of the intro for 2020 BAFTA awards). Tim has branched into other areas since then. Wrote the music and lyrics for 2 musicals (Matilda and Ground Hog Day), acted in numerous films and TV shows and as writing scripts for some of these. Put out a rock album in 2020 called Apart Together as well songs that he written for movies and TV shows that he has appeared in. Has published a book which he is currently touring to promote. He also did an inspirational talk called 9 life lessons which has had over 90M views. I would recommend Prejudice, Dark Side, Thankyou God, White Wine in the Sun and Storm but that only touches the surface. Tim has many more great songs.
Thanks for reacting to Tim. He's a boy from my home town, and one that we're inordinately proud of. His multi-talents are amazing, as others have already pointed out, but it's my belief that there's more than a little self confession in this particular song.
Absolutely love Tim Minchin 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Bo Burnham took a lot of influence from Tim Donna is absolutely right about the ending 👌🏻 Definitely Prejudice next. That's the one that most people start their journey down the Tim Minchin rabbit hole
Tim Minchin started out as a cabaret performer. He is incredibly skilled on piano (this song is about a level 1 for Tim) and he is also mostly self taught. Musically his work is very broad. He has his comedy songs, but also plays Jazz and Blues, writes for Broadway and has an album of more normal songs. As a pianist myself I find it very difficult to firstly even comprehend how he can even reach that level of accomplishment musically, but on top of that his time is divided up between many different pursuits. How many accomplished pianists can say that they also write TV shows, act, direct movies etc. Tim directed the animated Dreamworks movie Larrikins, but it was canned when it was nearly finished because the studio got bought out. He lost 4 years of work and was pretty annoyed about that (listen to his song Leaving LA which reflects his bitterness about that). It's obvious from his work that he is a very intelligent person. He also has a personal interest in science and philosophy and is pretty outspoken on politics and against religion. He has recently released a book which is an amalgamation of ideas from various speeches he has given over the years and his reflections on that. He has a book tour coming up - I have a ticket for it :).
Great reaction :D Tim Minchin is a comedian from Australia who has lived in the UK for a while. You guys should check out some more of his songs, I'd recommend "Storm" or "Lullaby".
Love your 3 Generation Reaction! Check out Tim Minchins Matilda, many great songs in that musical, I particularly love the song "Revolting Children". Keep up the great work.
Thankyou. More Tim please, but be warned, some of his songs might not be for you. He tells it like he sees it about some touchy subjects. Prejudice is a good recommendation. 😊
The song of Tim's which is closest to Rock and Roll Nerd would be Dark Side, check out the one labelled "Awesome version" at th-cam.com/video/3xQmJ_vxHB4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=6waxN1gFhijXZyJl
Great reaction - you clocked early that it was about himself. Now you've started down this road, there's so much great Tim Minchin to explore. I'd recommend Darkside for more about himself and also to showcase his incredible piano skills. (Make sure to check out the "awesome version" - th-cam.com/video/3xQmJ_vxHB4/w-d-xo.html)
Fun reaction. If you do more Tim Minchin particularly "White Wine in the Sun" just remember that Christmas is in the summer in Australia. He has a fun animated version of that one. If you want something pretty recent that shows what he looks and sounds like now try "Play It Safe" which was done at the opera house in Sydney Australia. He's lived in London, Los Angeles and Australia. Amazing guy all around. Tim did a very funny bit about his wife's reaction to his comedy talking about her. Her name is Sarah and yes they have been together since they were 17.
I have already commented... but i had to add that your three are the most adorable reaxtors ever.. And i was wondering if you would all react to flipron -dreams of welath and power (garden shed version- should come up close to the top if that helps) Anyway again i wish you all the best, i absolutely enjoy your styles and sense of humour. The song i recommended isn't necessarily comedy but react blind and i guess you will see what i mean..... some things are just meant to be fun
His song "You Grew On Me" is hilarious but also probably the best love song ever written. Do yourselves a favour and check it out. He is a brilliant pianist! One of the greats.
Amazing video Tim is the best! Hoping to see you reaching to more of his work. As others have mentioned "Prejudice" often gets the best reaction and "Darkside (awesome version)" showcases his music. I'd also recommend "school song" and "quiet" from Matilda the musical, "if I didn't have you", "Cont" and if looking for something more recent less humor "I'll take lonely tonight"
Craig from South Australia here. Tim is a bit of a legend from Oz. No doubt everyone else in the comments has already told the story. I'm here by way of having a bit of a look to see what the world thinks of us in general. Tim's stuff is a reasonable way to track that, because he reflects a decent percentage of Australian's values, and appeals to a pretty wide range of us. Obviously not all of us by any means, but he'd probably get elected to some official office or other if he had a crack at it. It's been interesting to see your reaction, and I love the multi-generational format. Cracking effort, and you didnt come across as stupid or insulting. That might sound like an insult, but on the internet, that's pretty fuck!#& amazing these days. I'm subscribing :)
Tim Minchin is a fab pianist and a good comedian , Bill Burrs hero . Great songs include Prejudice , The pope song , Inflatable you he is a very funny ADULT comedian
Tim Minchin has not been a comedian for over a decade. He is a serious and accomplished musician and composer at this time in his life, he has earned it so stop calling him a comedian when he isn't. He is an ex comedian
You should try to find one of his shows where he tells jokes and sing songs a really good one is drinking white wine in the sun no spoilers so I won't say too much😊
If you want to know more about his girlfriend/wife and what she thinks about his act i recommend you listen to his song "If I Didn't Have You". Just make sure you get he full version where he jokes a bit after about her and their life together.
Yes Tim is very happily married to Sarah, they are a lovely couple with 2 children. And only wears makeup on stage lol. I think everyone else has explained his talents and where he performed etc . I watched a vid where he graduated and made a humorous speech from um, something in America. Must watch it again lol. Some other Aussie here will correct me. I can see Dr Kappy in here commenting lol
There are few things on the planet that compare to Stevie Ray Vaughan's Tin pan Alley with decent headphones. Buy that young one some decent headphones if they dont have any. Spend everything you can afford. Then run The Pros and Cons Of Hitchhiking through them.

"He was the piano to their forte" is one of my fav lines of all time
Yup the last few bars were Stairway to Heaven because at the start he said all the other kids were learning Stairway on the guitar
They clearly weren’t rock and roll nerds
Nice reaction. Tim Minchin is a comedian and also a talented musician. You should react to his song Prejudice

What Kappy said 😂
@@jemxs I’ll have what she’s having 🤣 😝
Australian comedian but highly talented piano player and intelligence to match. Most of his songs have a message but with a comedic twist.
Musician, composer and songwriter that does comedy, I believe that’s how Tim describes himself 😊
Actually he hasn't been a comedian for 10 years. He has as many serious works as he does comic.
He was actually born in Northampton UK
Definitely worth checking out his song "Prejudice" live. A great play on words and he is a talented wordsmith. By the way, he's Australian.
The song that shows his talent best is "Darkside (the awesome version)". He has brilliant and well phrased lyrics.
My wife and I were lucky enough to see him live in NYC. One of the most memorable moments of our lives 😊
Hope you guys check out more of his stuff. Dark side the awesome version is amazing 👍

You're spot on, that is a few bars of Stairway to Heaven at the end.
He also uses the riff right at the beginning. Easy to miss if you don't know what you're listening for.

Australian accent! I’m really glad y’all liked it (and his hair). My favourite of Tim Minchin’s is Dark Side (Awesome Version).
You rock ladies. Nerds shall inherit the earth.
Tim is a genious

Also check out his beat poem "storm".

You should definitely check out the song he wrote to his wife "If I didn't have you" - and do the long version. It's hilarious!
His song "You Grew On Me" is hilarious but also probably the best love song ever written. Do yourselves a favour and check it out. He is a brilliant pianist! One of the greats.
I think this song is the most romantic thing I've ever heard. "I never knew, how fast a little mole can grow on you." *sigh*
@@wendycohen9038 given the double meaning of mole in the context of this song, that line is pure genius!

1st time I saw Tim was in Californication, lol......Cool. He performed pretty good., He doesn't hold any punches in this tune :)
You should try to find one of his shows where he tells jokes and sing songs a really good one is drinking white wine in the sun no spoilers so I won't say too much😊
React to Lullaby and Darkside, the awesome version.
If you want to know more about his girlfriend/wife and what she thinks about his act i recommend you listen to his song "If I Didn't Have You". Just make sure you get he full version where he jokes a bit after about her and their life together.

Don't worry about his girlfriend. Tim married his high school sweetheart whom he met when he was 17 years old.

He's an Aussie who grew up in Perth.
