Would be interesting to see you do a 'top ten Homebrew classes' looking at the ones you think are most balanced and with the most interesting flavor and lore
Yeah, subclasses too. There's a bunch of cool ones, but some of them seem kinda unnecessary due to how the base classes/subclasses are fairly broad. The tal'dorei campaign setting book had a few(I should look over them more thoroughly but they seemed kinda 'meh' to me) there's a bunch in the Midgard heroes handbook. There's definitely cool stuff out there. In the margreve player handbook there's a wizard subclass that is another take on the "arcane archer" type, it seems interesting. That's not even counting all the dmsguild content. Humblewood has some subclasses.
I've looked through a few homebrew and some of them are outright busted (i still havent found a homebrew for a playable vampire that isnt op) whilst can be alright if handled well. One example being a dm allowed me to make a class using Dont Stop Thinkings Channeler class (basically a jojos/persona class), and everything seems okay until it came to combat and everyone realised that this heavy hitting stand is attacking with advantage every turn cause the dm didnt prepare anyway to handle invisibility.
Ted, would you consider doing a sort of homebrew helper series? If members of the community could send in their ideas for homebrew and get your input/help in crafting their ideas, I think it would be a lot of fun and make for great videos!
I glanced over this myself, but dire troll have more than just troll regneration. If you hit it with fire or acid it still regenerates, if slower. And if you drop it to 0, even if using fire it would still regenerate during its turn and only dies if you hit it with fire or acid while it's in 0 or its regeneration is turned off in some other way.
dire troll: it take body parts from other creatures and attacked them to itself. what if the troll came across a spectator? i guess it now has eyerays. what if the troll came across a wyvern? i guess it now has a horrifying stinger, or wings, or both. if you ever what to do more with a troll, you can.
yeah I love the regen attachment idea, eye stalks from beholders is great ;if it had acid immunity what about gelatinous cube troll action...yummy. Even a troll that had wiped out another adventuring party and attached all the hero bits to it..incl magic items!
almost, it's kalasHtar I like the build even though it's not extremely optimal because of it's scores. I'd probably multiclass it with samurai fighter to put the wis and cha of kalashtar to a better use (samurai's 7th lvl feature).
@@Hromovlad1 yeah but the CR doesnt mean a whole lot here, Strahd has legendary actions, legendary resistance, 9th level spellcasting and regeneration. Strahd could literally run rings around the Dire Troll and just fireball it to death no problem and he could just beat it to death in close combat too Strahd is super powerful in the right circumstances.
I personally really don't like the Oni. Not because of it itself, but because of the name. Oni are some of my favorite Japanese Yokai, but here it's just a Magic Ogre. I personally just call it the ogre mage and make the Oni a separate creature. I actually talked with someone and decided to essentially make it what the Tanarruk was for Orcs but for Trolls. I know that most of the time, Oni are referred to as Japanese Ogres, but they fit a Demon blooded Troll more in terms of abilities and social structure. One legend has an Oni surviving being decapitated and continuing to fight. Just like a Troll's Variant Loathesome Limbs. Most Oni, even when not doing that, are usually portrayed as being incredibly hard to kill and having fire abilities. Because of this, I usually alter the Oni's regeneration to make it weaker but to not have the damage type weaknesses. It'd probably just cease working for a couple rounds if they take a critical hit or it stops wholesale if they are under a 1/4th of their hit points. That's at least for Monstrous Oni, I also portray some Tieflings like more human sized Oni in more Japanese settings. Oni might be a catch all term for demon blooded creatures in this case.
Giant kin are always so weird for me, because what are they? Where'd they come from in most cases? I like the idea I saw someone else on the internet post. Vaprak is basically the failure son of Annam allfather, and tries to create giants just like him, and they always suck. Ogres come first, ettins next because how dyou make an ogre better? Two heads duh. Then he made trolls and they're actually pretty badass.

two that I use are Matt Mercer's Blood Hunter and Badooga's Psion (as a mystic replacement)
Haven't won initiative, unfortunate, but still here and ready to enjoy.

I can definitely look into it!
BETROLLDER. A troll that grafted beholder eyes to their body
Awesome list! Goblin Huckers is by far my favorite one!
Nice list
Some tough monsters there
I like that dreadnaught
Well done! Love the list, and love giants
Crab giants, crab giants, taste like crab, talk like giants

Wouldn’t mind seeing a sequel to this, but all 3.5 giants instead.
there deadly giants in 3.5.I have funny feeling they well bring back death giant
Chill touch is a great way to shut down regen on trolls and ogre magi.
Kalastar (spelling?) bear totem barbarian. Boom, all damage resistance.

Last time I was this early I wasn’t even undressed yet
Lol same *dab*
Petition to make Thibbledorf Pwent’s spiked armor an ‘armor of gleaming from Xanathar’s to give Catti-Brie more options?
when you realize the Dire Troll can take down Strahd
Strahd would destroy a dire troll without even breaking a sweat.
@@joeofdoom The CRs are pretty damn close

Yeah honestly I'd give it to strahd. He has a lot going for him. He denies the troll regeneration and has action economy on his side
Whatever you do, you have to keep the super mario sunshine in the outro.
What kind of giants were the fomorians originally?
It would be neat to have playable giants in D&D. Yet the setting would need to be built for large or larger PCs.
I never want to see a picture of a carrion ogre stuff of nightmares if you ask me
