    Thanks for the video Simon. The one thing that i have noticed on left hand drive models is that people have problems with the remote lock and unlock not functioning all the time. We often have to take the key out of our pockets and press the button.

      I did see a Technical Service Bulletin on this - you may need to check you car has had this issue corrected - see below details - they added an extra receiver on the left side of the car !!!

    Keyless Relay Theft is not applicable to the Defender or other Land Rover vehicles with the same key type/shape. This is due to the use of Ultra Wide Band (UWB) technology and Satellite Anchor Transceivers that are placed around the vehicle to pinpoint the actual location of the key.

    • @djw1091994

    Simon…I don’t press the virtual “button” to open the door, I simply pull the handle and it opens. I use that button to lock the drivers/all doors but as it only opens the drivers door, I use the button on the rear doors to open both rear doors and the nsf door for Mrs HQB to get in. Useful information about deactivating for camping or caravanning but I put the key in a metal tin box at night and also set the Guardian mode in the LR app which notifies me of any attempt to open a door whilst parked overnight. I hope that helps! 🤔😀😀Richard.

    Will this stop keyless entry working on a second fob?
    I’m assuming it will, as it looks like this stops the vehicle from receiving and accepting keyless entry signals rather than disabling the signals from being emitted from the fob in the first place, but worth a check?

      I believe that just double-locks cars so that even if the glass was broken the doors could not be opened from the inside. I’ve already checked the on-line manual for the demo 110 that I collected at 4pm today and double-locking works on it just the same as it does for most other cars these days.

    This is more related to the remote start feature.
    I had a few non start problems when tried starting the DS on my app. So I brought the car into JLR and they tested the battery twice and it failed. They put in a new battery under warranty and all is well remote start is working flawlessly.
    So I'd you having issues it's the battery, it just doesn't like low voltage on the battery.

      Perverse incentives. Why preemptively prevent theft when it could mean selling two cars to someone that would have only bought one. I have had my Defender stolen twice: the first time they recovered it, and the second time they didn't. I replaced it this week, and I am going to do everything possible to protect it, short of an IED. The first time it took them ~3 minutes to get it started, and the second time it was less than 30 seconds. They are getting better, and in neither case was a relay attack used. In both cases the event was captured on my neighbour's cameras.

They shut down when key is not in range invalidating the whole attack - annoying yes but not as annoying as not having a well thought out car function I use in constantly and keys never leave my bag. FYI keyless has been standard in base models since at least 2021 here.

    they Key you have is NOT susceptible to relay theft ..it uses UWB unlike the old 2018 keys ....
    the latest development of JLRs keys with Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) protection should further counter these hi-tech attacks, where criminals intercept signals between the vehicle and key to unlock the car.
    'Vehicles are not vulnerable to that method when equipped with this technology, which also mitigates the requirement to store keys in a faraday pouch,' the vehicle manufacturer states.
    If anyone has the old style key I would suggest disabling keyless entry

    • @L663
      @L663  ปีที่แล้ว

      There is away around the UWB technology but i do not want to publish it here for clear reasons.

    • @thebigfella72
      @thebigfella72 ปีที่แล้ว

      UWB allows precise location finding using two-way ranging, a methodology that requires precise timing between senders and receivers. Scrambled Timestamp Sequences (STS) encode the precise timing in the signaling between the device and the vehicle. The data is encrypted with the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) to prevent spoofing of the timestamps. With the precise times that signals are sent and received in both directions, intelligence in the car can calculate the exact distance to the fob/driver
      this makes it impossible for any kind of relay theft even if the data was decrypted ..

    • @L663
      @L663  ปีที่แล้ว

      The way around this apparently exploited a weakness in another part of the vehicle ( not the UWB itself ) . The Land Rover engineers are working on it and i think it was part of a recent software update.

    Did I miss an episode where you've installed a Range Rover steering wheel?!

    Really tasty waffle. As it happens I have a Defender 110 D250 XDynamic HSE on demo until tomorrow afternoon. While it is a lovely thing, it doesn’t seem overly powerful but I’ll tow 3.5 tons with it tomorrow. It will surely be more than adequate but at £70k in this spec it seems an awful lot of money. Is it worth it? Well maybe. It’s certainly leagues ahead of my previous Range Rovers in almost every way imaginable but it’s also twice the price of my last new one which was a 2004 with the BMW engine and electronics. That was grossly underpowered and noisy.

      @cartherapy718 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Love mine, same spec and whilst it isn’t quick off the line, once you get it moving it’s not too bad! And I had a Macan Turbo before so used to bonkers speeds but this is so much more useable!

      I spent 20 years driving a Toyota Land Cruiser Amazon 4.2 turbo diesel which had 200hp and 400Nm torque through a four speed auto. Time and technology has transformed the performance and experience of driving such vehicles but this Defender does appear to be overcomplicated in every way. I also note that air suspension is actually an option, even on this high end trim. This demo model has 22” wheels and very low profile tyres, something I would not contemplate specifying for practical and running cost reasons.

    No need for the faraday cage/tin or microwave.
    “Where are the keys, love”? “In the microwave dear”! Daft!
    Just get a simple visible steering lock. I can’t see an issue with that can you?

      One steering wheel lock is unlikely to deter a thief, unless it is the disc type.

      @@Oxers-KO it is. Will be extremely noisy to remove and saw through. Your not gonna get my steering lock off within ten minutes. And without making a great deal of noise.

    • @JC-xw7ml
      @JC-xw7ml 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CrueLoaf you’re right, as long as it’s a pro lock or similar, and you lock the two bars either side of the steering wheel spoke, you would virtually have to destroy the steering wheel to get it off. If you just clamp it on the wheel rim, they just hacksaw trough that, bend it a bit and slide the lock off.

    So you’ve disabled keyless entry but the fob is still transmitting signals? Otherwise you wouldn’t have been able to turn on the ignition. In that case, I don’t see how this can help. My Mercedes allows me to shut off the fob itself. Does JLR have this feature?

    It’s a weird keyless entry system when you still have to press a button on the handle. I just hold my handle to unlock and Renault have a system where you just approach the car for it to unlock but, you do have to be basically alongside the car.
    Landrover way is more effort than using the button on the remote!
    There should also be a setting in your touchscreen to disable keyless entry for all keys as your method pro.badly only disabled that one key you were holding.
    Disable again and use the other fob or activity watch and see what happens.
    The really easy way to disable is a faraday pouch, around £5 just put the key in it in your pocket and it won’t work at all.

      My Kia Sorento and Nissan Qashqai has a near identical button on the latch feature for both kkeyless locking and unlocking. My Honda CR-V on the other hand has a button but has a sensor behind the handles of both front doors that detect hands and unlock without button pressing. I did have a car that had a virtual button pad where my thumb would be detected and do a button-like job without actually pressing.
