This 2013 car is the sought after A180 AMG SPORT model which has a FULL AMG BODYKIT including quad exhausts and A45 style rear spoiler. It looks sensational, but is also highly practical and frugal thanks to its super turbo-diesel engine. While this car looks like a fire-breathing A45, it is actually a much more frugal beast, with the 1.8 litre turbo-diesel engine and BlueEfficiency technology which gives it amazing fuel economy of up to 60mpg - It also means the A-Class has low exhaust emissions which are rewarded by its cheap £35 a year tax bracket. But despite its green-credentials, the 109bhp A180 is both smooth and effective in its power delivery. With a 7 speed automatic gearbox, complete with steering-wheel-mounted flappy paddles, you are always able to get the power down when needed and that power delivery is reassuringly instantaneous, with a surge of torque that is relentless all the way to the red line. It may not be an A45 but it is still genuinely quick.Our car is fitted with Mercedes superb column mounted cruise control, which is the best in the business. The car is also fitted with a speed limiter function which is a license saver is built up areas and average speed checks. Thanks to its SPORT suspension and 18" alloy wheels the A200 handles as good as it looks. Turn-in is instant and the grip is fantastic. It's an entertaining drive which easily lives up to the pedigree of this fantastic marque.
Step inside the A-Class and you are greeted by a well-finished interior which looks very sporty and welcoming. The stitched leather seats are sporty and very supportive with their deep bolsters. They are generously proportioned though, and provide superb comfort on long journeys. I love the carbon-effect on the dashboard as well as the red highlights such as the air-vents and the stitching on the seats and door panels. The centre console has a large screen display which houses the cars multimedia stereo system, and onboard computer. The chunky, leather-bound steering wheel feels and looks sporty. While the A180 AMG has been designed to appeal to the more youthful market, it still has that high-quality Mercedes-Benz feel to remind you this is a premium product. Rear seat passengers are also well catered for and there are isofix child seat anchorage points on the outer rear seats for added safety.
