Be patient with your new baby. Abused and neglected pups need their humans to use soft gestures and tone of voice. Dog treats are an effective way to establish a sense of trust. Research using hand gestures/commands along with verbal commands. It will take some time to undo the torture your poor little baby endured. Bless you for giving him a chance to be loved and cared for. He is precious!

On a separate note....my heart immediately bonded with yours over rescuing a traumatized dog.
I rescued a miniature Xoloitzcuintli (8lb Mexican Hairless) who spent 10YEARS!!!! 10 YEARS!!! Locked in a cage in a puppy mill. It tookore than 2 years for her to trust me (somewhat) and another 2 years to trust my husband. I named her Ginger. She was Velcro-ed to me like glue!!!
A long story short....She became my unofficial support animal and truly is the reason I am here today. A few months ago I was forced to day a final goodbye. I had her for 11 years 10 months and 10 days!!! She was 21 years old, almost 22!!! She was one of the very best things to ever happen to me.
I am still struggling to navigate my life without her.
Hang on to your sweet Banjo...rescue dogs are truly the best companions!

Please Natasha don’t ever feel like your videos are not worth making, you have new junk journaling audiences everyday and plus it refreshes our memories and gives us new projects to do even if they have been videod many times. I amongst everyone else love every single video you do, you are a great inspiration to all of us and you make the videos so simple to follow. When something look’s factory made or the most impossible thing to do ourselves you swoop in and save us the money to buy it because you show us how we can make it ourselves by the simplest details and you give us the confidence to do so. Natasha you are such a joy to watch I Love Your humor and your compassion for not throwing “trash” away. I just can’t say enough about how your such an inspiration and I can’t wait to get your book. Your pup is absolutely gorgeous!! We rescued our dog almost 9 years ago, and many of my friends have rescued dogs. They are the best! They need time to adjust in the beginning, as they are in shock and don't know what to make of their new environment. Plus, he's probably scared of all new noises, smells, etc. But over time, they will start to trust you and your family, and get adjusted to this new life. I think what helps the most is having a routine (e.g., being fed at the same time), lots and lots of exercise (especially since he's so young), a calm environment, and lots of positive reinforcement and rewards. Over time, he will get more and more used to this new life, and he'll feel loved and safe, and he will return that love tenfold. And that will be so awesome for him, but also for you and your family! Dogs, especially rescued dogs, can bring so much love, laughter, inspiration (to exercise, to try new things, to appreciate the small things in life), and so much joy!
Also, I love your videos sooo much! Your channel is the only one I follow to this extent, watching each new video as soon as it gets released, and often rewatching old ones as I work on projects and need guidance, new ideas, and inspiration.
Animals are a lot like people. They need to learn to trust the family. They will pick one in the family to be their favorite. It takes time. God bless you for fostering your fur baby. ❤

Love this video. I can not wait to get started on sewing my scraps. My rescue dog came to us nine years ago. At first, no one could get near her. She went into a corner and stayed there for a couple of days. Then, slowly, she came to us with treats. To calm her down, I would pat her on the shoulder and say on a very low voice, your okay your okay. To this day, when something upsets her, she looks at me, waiting for me to say it. And I do often. Stay warm and loving to Banjo. He will come around it just takes time and patience.

I am sure you will also get a ton of advice, but hoped to offer some that has helped our family! For rescues that arrived "aggressive" or unwieldy, a structured routine and positive reinforcement (without either of you getting exhausted at the skill to be learned) were the best. Not sure if this is happening, but it's also not uncommon for rescues to lash out at children or men; with your help, it won't be that way for forever. 💜

Happy for you and understand your mixed feelings ❤ Our rescue pit-mix gave us 14 years of ups and downs and we learned it’s a heartfelt commitment like nothing else. At first she was so anxious that we could not leave her in the house alone - she’d claw at the door and howl so loud. 1. People said get a crate/large cage. Coming from a pound, we hated the thought. But it helped keep her from hurting herself and the house. We draped a blanket on it to make it less distracting in there land it eventually turned into a refuge for her. When we had to be away, she would howl in the cage but she would take her anxiety out howling and chewing on toys. After a while, we got to the point where we would leave the cage door open when we’d leave and she would use it as she wanted. After a year or so, the crate was gone but we kept her bed in the same spot. 2. Routines. Play and exercise routines. She was great when tired out and I can say I do not go for the daily walks and runs that I used to. 3. We took her with us as much as we could. Even if it meant one of us staying in the car with her while the other went in for the errand. We explored hiking trails, lakes, parks, and neighborhood streets. Vacations were dog friendly places and camping trips. 😊. In hindsight our rescue gave US a great life. 4. There’s always quirks - she was always a bit anxious but we learned to how to help her. She loved people but there were only a couple of other dogs she could be around. ❤ All the best and good luck! Dog people around you will be a huge help! ❤

I've taken in street animals for soooo many years, some became my furry children, some were at home only until the perfect family came. People usually say "make an animal happy by adopting them", I say instead "make yourself happier by adopting an animal!". Making YOU happy is NOT their job... but they can't help it!!! ^_^
When we had dogs, and first heard about 'crating' we were horrified. But though we never ended up using crates, I have since learned how natural it is for a dog to want a small safe space that belongs just to them. When our oldest dog was coming to the end of his life, he would seek out small spaces, like behind the couch etc. So I agree, either an actual crate, or making a smaller space inside a room where they can see you - I guess it could even be a large cardboard box, lined with a blanket. Thank you & everyone else who adopts. We were ignorant of the problem back in the day, so we did buy our boy, but if we ever got more dogs, they would be rescue ones.
@@MariKayCreations when I welcome a new kitty in my home, he or she ends up in one of the bathrooms for the first few days. Cats are absolutely territorial and when in a new space they need to "make it theirs" by exploring and marking. Of course this is way easier in a bathroom than in the whole apartment. On top of it the space is totally theirs, I go every now and then to feed them and keep them company (always considering how THEY feel about it), and little by little they come out and explore the rest of the house. BUT... they know that they can go back to the bathroom if they feel unsafe or insecure, by making it theirs the first few days it's their SAFE PLACE.
Unfortunately, when I say this, I often get shocked stares by people who might have never lived with an animal... 😅 "How cruel, shutting them up in the bathroom!"... No, that's exactly what then need at that very moment. A small, safe space.
We do that too... when we aren't unwell we want a cozy couch with a view ☺

I am so happy to hear you rescued Banjo! He will be forever grateful. Don't giver up on him - it takes about a year for them to figure that this is their forever home and you won't turn him away. His loyalty to you will be so precious! I loved your video and the fact that no paper is insignificant - it is always ready to be made into something that will make you smile!
Rescuing a dog is never an easy task! Kudos to you and your family. Please don't give up on him. He needs a lot of love, understanding and hugs. Get his confidence by talking to him gently. Perhaps give him a toy or a blanket to give him comfort. Even an old blanket or shirt with your scent will help. Loud noises especially fireworks and/or thunder will most likely give him the shakes. I find putting a blanket over him will calm him down. I went as far as sitting on the floor under a table with a shared blanket over our heads most comforting to him waiting for the thunder and lightening to stop. (I too hate thunder!!) He gained trust after that and forever loved me !!! Sadly he passed from old age and this was the best dog we ever had. Good luck!

I received my copy of your book a few days ago. I love it, and look forward to your next video on it. As for the beauty you've rescued, it takes time for an animal to learn to trust again. Patience and time, lots of love. The fact that he's not hiding from you, and is willing to lie nearby sleeping, is a very good sign that you're making progress. Sending you both hugs.
You stand out because while you use the materials as others, your projects are so elegant. I really enjoy watching you make things. And I think adding the stitching really does dress up a paper strip and make it special.
NO one in the history of the world has ever calmed down by being told to "Calm Down". However, if you do, he will too! It takes time to feel safe & to trust. He is a puppy & EVERYTHING is a chew toy! (trust me...I have a GIANT Jar of Shame that belonged to what I would consider "The World's Best Dog"). I made a designated toy box and immediately started with training...ONE or TWO word commands and a low strong NO when things weren't going so well. High pitched voices make dogs more excited so I feel pitch is EVERYTHING... and TRUST! He sure is cute & you sure are amazing❣ I LOVED the sound of his nails in your video🔥 Best wishes & good luck ☘ Thanks so much for another fabulous tutorial.
Banjo is adorable! Never worry about the noise he is making…it’s like listening to children in church, we are happy they are there!!!! I love this project. I have tons of off-cuts and will be using them to make these!! Thank you
Banjo! Love him already. I, too, have a rescue with full-on anxiety. For an example, my dog hated the sound of paper. I would show her a sheet and give her praise and a small treat, every time she relaxed in the sight of paper. Then, I moved on to making noise with the paper. Again, allowing her to relax and positive praise. Look into clicker training. It really helps. Patience also helps, lol. Dont get discouraged he will come around!
Thank you for saving baby Banjo 🪕. He’s beautiful. It will take time, tears, and patience. I rescued my dogs from a shelter and they were the most loving and caring precious things I’ve ever had. I loved them for 15 years. I miss them dearly and will miss them forever.
It is worth all the feelings you are going through to save this dog. He will become the most loyal of companions. Just continue loving him. Thank God for people like you.
Dog suggestion: Cesar Milan, a dog behaviorist in the US, has been successful with a dog like yours. Instead of me paraphrasing what I learned, I encourage you to find his channel. What I do remember most is that dogs can recover from trauma and that patience (and perhaps some knowledge about dog language) is all that is needed. Congratulations and thank you on your rescue dog. ❤

When adopting dogs...🐕
It takes 3 days for them to decompress.
3 weeks for them to learn your routine.
3 months for them to feel at home.
Patience is the key.

How fabulous for scraps, Thankyou so much. Banjo needs to be able to trust, this will take a few weeks. Just give him lots of love, try not to leave him on his own for the first few weeks as he will feel abandoned. He will come round and he will give you all unconditional love. It’s just time as others have mentioned. Keep at it,it is very emotional and uncertain but the love you’ll get back will be well worth it. I’m so glad he was rescued. Well done. Stay safe xx
Yes, you've taken on a handful with Banjo! Just give him time. Sometimes it takes a while, but dogs live in the moment.
I imagine being in the room with you while you're making videos is comforting to him because of the constant sound of your voice.
Fantastic project! I always feel this tremendous guilt when I get rid of off-cuts. Even though I put them in the recycling bin, I have this pang of shame and now I can be off-cut shameless! Thank you!
Banjo is gorgeous and bless you and your family for committing to him. As everyone has already said - patience is key. It breaks my heart when people return dogs to the shelter because of various issues, which I believe only serves to exacerbate the many difficulties these sweet babies already face. I can't imagine what it would feel like to be brought to a home, start to feel hopeful and comfortable, only to be removed from that comfort and returned to a shelter cage. Trust would surely go out the window. We've had three rescue dogs. Our current, Duke, is a Pit Bull who was raised from four weeks old to be a fight dog. He was saved from that life and we got him from the rescue agency at 4 months old. That was almost 4 years ago. Despite much training, he still has that urge to go after other dogs, so we are a one-dog family and we take him for walks at 4:30 a.m. before the other neighborhood dogs go for their walks. I wish we could give him a more dog-social life, but he enjoys his life with us very much and loves us and all people. Telling you all of this because sometimes, depending on the dog, you may have to adjust your expectations and hopes for what their life will be like. But as the others have said, patience, love, and training. Being consistent with the training and making sure everyone in the family backs each other up is key. Prayers for you all and Banjo!

Thank you for all your beautiful projects, and thank you for saving Banjo, it will take a bit of work and time, but when your dog feels the love, he will be the best friend you have always wanted. I wouldn't trade any of my rescues.
Congratulations on your new baby! I can totally relate to all you are feeling. Training him with little training treats will make his life fun. I recommend a crate. They are den animals and usually like them. Randomly put treats in the crate (or a bed) and let him come upon them. Act like scary things are exciting and fun. For example, with my dog, I act all excited and giddy when there is thunder or when a big truck goes by. It has worked for me. Routine is best as with any toddler. One word or short phrases with commands. I let mine chew up certain things and everything else was NO NO NO!!!! If Banjo is two or younger, it will take until at least the two year mark for the puppy energy to dissipate some. Good luck. You will do fine. But you sound like me, I tend to lose focus if there is another heartbeat around and I usually give as much or more concern to that creature than myself. Lots of love and lots of fetch and he will be worth it all!! He's beautiful! 💖 Oh, and singing. I have one or two songs I sing or hum in the morning and before bed. Calming. They really are just like toddlers.
With Banjo (great name !) it’s all about time and love! I went through much the same with my Gracie. She actually ran away 2 days after I brought her home and was gone for 3weeks! All I can tell you is she was the most devoted companion and an excellent therapist!She nursed me through a debilitating back injury and a broken heart when I lost my job. Hang in there! It took us a year or so to get there, but was well worth the wait. ❤️
I had rescued a toy poodle, who was left in a small cage on the patio in hot Florida. She was such a sweetheart. The only issue I ever had, which it really wasn't even a bad thing, she wouldn't go in the kitchen! It took five years. But all they need is love, and I have three poodles now. They like routine, same thing everyday. Every morning at 7:30 I put my slippers on, and they know were going outside for their morning potty time. And they love to hear your voice, I constantly talk to them. They just need love, and hugs. They need trust, just be consistent. You will all get into a routine that will make him a great dog. Love the name. Love that you rescued him. Your a great lady💓💞💕
I love your videos-you are so talented. Thank you for sharing your gift with us! I wanted to tell you that I rescued a dog about 6 years ago and it was the best decision! He had separation anxiety for about 2 months-he ate all, and I mean all of my blinds when I was at work. I took him to the vet and was told to crate him while I was at work. Well poor little guy tried so hard to get out that he broke off most of his front teeth-i felt so bad and he's never been back in that crate ever since. What worked for me and him was time. Consistency and time. He will get to know you and his new surroundings and begin to trust you and your family that you love him and aren't going to harm or crate him. I find that my little guy likes to go outside so I let him out as much as he wants. Little things for them to look forward to is good. Take him on walks-wear him out! Let him begin to trust his surroundings! You got this! He's got this! Time is your friend for this challenge! Take care!

Your videos (and your voice) always relax and inspire me. No idea is ever too small for a tutorial. It’s often the little things that we tend to either forget or don’t think about.
As for Banjo, We too, rescued 2 dogs almost 5 years ago now. A Great Dane (she was about 2 years old) and a Doberman (she was about 6 years old). The Doberman would food guard and stealing from the Dane and our other dog. She wasn’t house trained and would do her business wherever she wanted. She would try to dominate the Dane and our Cocker Spaniel, and was being the typical momma dog and tried to “mother” our son and nipped him in the leg. He was running in the house and she didn’t think he should be doing that.
We had no history on the dogs but within a few weeks we started to figure each dog out. We were on the road to getting the Doberman house trained and things started to relax.
One thing we learned was to have boundaries. Things they couldn’t do- chewing other things besides their toys or chews. Which we had and still have LOTS of.
Banjos barking at sounds is a good thing. He is protecting his home and his new family. He seems really relaxed and comfortable in his new home, if a little bored, hence the fabric assault. Certain breeds need lots of stimulation ( my Doberman), and maybe Banjo. He looks like a pit bull. EVERYTHING will be ok sooner than you think. Just stay calm and relaxed. Dogs can feel all of your feelings. If you are tense, he will be tense. If you are happy and relaxed, he will be also.

Natasha, rescuing a pup is not easy, however ,and believe me, it is veryy rewarding for both you and your pup🩵 my husband & I have 2 rescues and they were very traumatized as well before we got them, it breaks my heart.. the best advice I can give, is to be patient, and give lots & lots of love ( which I know you are already doing🩵). I say now that I was rescued by my pups , not the other way around 🩷 Rescues when they come around ,and it might take some time for them to trust again, but they will!! They are the most grateful pups there is, because you took your time with them, and love them💕 God Bless

Hi Natasa. My book arrived. It is beautifully done. Proud of you. Hi Banjo. I have only owned rescue pets. With high anxiety dogs I like to sit with them, pet while talking in a calming voice. I also think environment plays a part. If a house is noisy and chaotic I think it may be more difficult to calm them. Also the main thing is consistency and lots and lots of love. Oh..and I love this super cute idea. I especially like how you embellished and showed how you use them. TFS ❤
Good morning, Natasha! First, I love this video. I just completed work on some little booklets, so I have tons of scraps and have been unable to figure out what to do with them. Already have a dozen masterboards, so didn't need to make any more of those! So thanks for reading my mind and providing the inspiration I need. But more importantly, good on you for saving Banjo from an unthinkable fate. We adopted our "Muggs" nine years ago - he came from a kill shelter in a neighboring state, so would have met the same fate as Banjo. He was a challenging puppy and there were times we considered taking him back to the adoption agency. So I understand what you're going through. We put him into dog training and doggie daycare for socialization as soon as he was old enough and that made a big difference in his temperament and trust level. I can't imagine life without him and am so glad we hung in there. I'm sure you will be glad too. Banjo looks like a great dog! Hugs and cheers from Denver CO!
Barely a week with Banjo? Even a well adjusted dog needs time to acclimate to a new home so he will need even more time and love after his ordeal especially during his formative months.. Don't get discouraged, take baby steps with him and have patience. He is a very lucky boy for you to have found each other❤

My favorite people in the world are those that rescue animals. I have rescued 5 in the last 15 years and my life is so much richer for it. There were many times I second guessed myself but I knew in my heart these dogs needed me. My two rescues now are my whole universe and my life is dedicated to their health and happiness. Bless you and don’t give up. Banjo will come around and trust me he loves you guys already. ❤

Thank you for rescuing this dog! I have five rescues and they all took more than six months to really understand they are now loved and cared for. Most rescues have this guideline for adopters: Whether you rescue an older dog or a puppy, a lot of dogs tend to follow the 3-3-3 rule when getting acclimated: 3 days of feeling overwhelmed and nervous. 3 weeks of settling in. 3 months of building trust and bonding with you. I can honestly say they follow this rule and sometimes it does take them longer. Hang in there with your pup. He will love you soon.

Congratulations on rescuing Banjo. I'd have a house full if we didn't travel. Our family lived on a farm when I was growing up and my brother was in college for Veterinary Medicine. We ended up with the dogs, cats, turkeys, and chickens that were abandoned at the clinic for whatever reason! when he graduated and started working as a veterinarian, he couldn't bear to put the animals down if it was because folks couldn't afford to treat them and they were generally healthy. He gave many dogs with heartworms a second chance to live out their lives. That was back before the preventative pills and when the treatment was very expensive. We lost our last kitty about 18 months ago. She was 17 years old. and had been our daughter's until she went to college. I'm grateful for how we raised our kids. They all have at least one rescue dog or cat or both! We get to "grandpet" sit for them when they travel whenever we can so we still have pets!
I love the envelopes for the journals and the sewn paper strips are adorable. I have not sewn any paper projects and not sure why! I was a sewer long before I was a paper crafter. I really enjoy your channel. Your projects are fun and beautiful. TFS.

Banjo need constant attention and love. Give him lots of love in the beginning. Take him outside. Always make him feel safe. When he does the slightest thing positive, make all over him and give him a treat. Never feel anxious around him, and never yell at him. Always be tender around him because he can pick up your attitude. Always be calm around him.

Thank you for saving Banjo. Please persevere with him - it’s very early days, but with lots of love and patience, you will be rewarded. At the moment he’s still getting used to your routine and what you require from him. Keep to routines with him, don’t shout when he does wrong but reward him with treats when he gets it right. Really like this strip idea and how to package them. Congratulations on the dog! Training is the one single best thing you can do to help him settle in and live a happy life. I have had a lot of dogs and currently have 3, one is a rescue. I still treat her the same as the other two and trained her, now we have a great life together.
Right! I would recommend some training and learning how to deal with rescue animals...When you take in a virtual ' stranger' (4-legs), need to make time to get to know each other and should work out fine..if not, don't feel guilty about taking it back to a shelter....I KNOW thats A rarity, but some personalities clash and better for all involved if it can't be remedied after trying your best..

Advice for the dog: Just finished one year with a rescued, reactive, unsocialized adult Rottweiler. The first three days, my very large adult fiancé cried from the stress lolol the first 3 weeks we were convinced someone else could do a better job with her and tried to find a new owner. By the end of the first 3 months we were STARTING to have faith in our routines and accomplishments so just don’t even really plan on being relaxed and sure of your decision for a bit, it’s just easier. One year later we are in love with her and she has learned to trust us instead of her very flawed instincts. This was our first dog, my first ever “big” dog (they are different) and we had no experience in training a dog. We just watched hours of videos and used trial and error as well as help from our vet (80mg of Prozac is a game changer, she has many ticks from her anxiety that made her untrainable). Best of luck with your baby, consistency is everything ❤️
Frequent soft brushing and message sessions can be very calming and relaxing for Banjo. Great that he is in your craft area while you are recording as your quiet voice is an important connection. Is he leash trained? If so, walks would be important, especially as he was so confined for so long. I hope the rescue center can give advice. This could take so much time, and patience. Also watch some TH-cam training videos. He needs lots, and lots, and lots of time, reassurance, and kindness. Let us know how it goes, please.
Thank you for rescuing Banjo! He’s beautiful. His anxiety is probably a combination of having space to actually walk around in. Do you have a crate for him? If not, I’d get one big enough, put a crate liner & soft blanket in and leave the door open. That way when he’s feeling overwhelmed he can have his own little space. Does he have any plush toys? If he doesn’t immediately destroy them, I’d get one big enough for him to keep with him, carry it around wherever he goes. Thank you, thank you again for rescuing this sweet boy. He may just be overwhelmed with settling in- waiting to see if this is his forever home. ❤️
As always, thank you for sharing your creativity. As for your new fur baby I would say TIME, LOVE and SPACE. We rescued as well and over time my Buddy is now my best friend. I respected his space, but taught him to respect mine... After a while he realized I was safe and relaxed. He was so skittish at first, but has warmed up. Hang in there, it's all worth it. ❤
You ALWAYS inspire us! Don’t ever think some technique is too simple to teach! Sometimes, those techniques are ‘springboards’ to a different idea, so keep on showing us new techy stuff. Also, your puppy is such a delight to see and hear him rummaging around. Rescued puppies are the best! I have a beautiful smooth coated collie I rescued 10 years ago. She was so scared and anxious…..one behavioral doggy therapist told us she was hopeless. My daughter and I told that lady goodbye and that she could leave our home. So, we just did whatever ‘Suzy’ wanted to do. We followed her lead. It took months for her to walk through doorway to go outside and to come back inside, so we carried her; two years to leave the kitchen but now, 10 years later….. She has four beds all over the house and is a mushy, sweet, couch potato and we so love her! She travels with us on vacation and is so awesome. So don’t give up! You just have to go at his pace. He will come around.

Yet another charming idea, seemingly simple but with so many possibilities! You really manage to inspire me, again and again, Natasa. Congratulations on your new rescue dog. Having adopted an anxious pup ourselves, I can confidently tell you that it will get easier. It's kind of like when you have a baby. You thought it was such a good idea, and then you come home from the hospital with a tiny little one who depends on you to survive, cries and eats and eats and cries and never lets you sleep--it's so overwhelming and you think, good heavens, what have I done? But then you adjust to each other. Your life is never the same as it was before, but it is also is not as hard as those first days or weeks. You develop routines. You start to understand him, and he comes to see that he can trust you and that life isn't as scary as he thought. Maybe he will always have certain anxieties (our Daisy is still terrified of the vacuum and lawn mower) but he will not be as tense as he is now. I bet it's just the beginning of a wonderful relationship. Wishing you the best!

We are a Golden Retriever family. In 2018 our 10 year old golden, Grissom died of cancer. Our 5 year old golden, Dexter was so sad and lonely. We wanted to rescue a Golden because we would know what to expect from the breed and how to train. We live in a remote area and could not find a rescue in our state willing to service our area. In 2019, I finally found a rescue in Oklahoma. Looked at pictures on their site. There was one girl named Goldie, she looked rough and not really Golden Retriever. When talking with the woman there. She said Goldie was a golden retriever mix and she had some sort of mange that had caused most of her hair to fall out and that's why she looked the way she did. I drove 629 miles one way, to get her. When they brought her in the room. I took one look at her and said she is not Golden Retriever at all. She was not the dog I had driven that far to get. She was pitiful her eyes were empty and hopeless. And she was not yet a year old. 😢 The woman said,so you don't want her? I said, yes I want her. When I called my husband and told him I had her. I said she's not what we expected. He asked then why are you bringing her home? I said, because I couldn't leave her. As near as we can figure our Goldie is Great Pyrenees yellow lab mix; other than having some gold coloring she is nothing like a golden retriever. 😊 It has not been easy but it's been worth every second. She is a Sweetheart! ❤
I have 2 rescues and 1 has very bad anxiety and separation issues. It takes time and lots of love, affection and kind soothing, reassuring words. The youngest has needed some anxiety meds that have helped him tremendously. The hope is to gradually get him off these meds. Don't give up just yet. You wont regret saving him and he'll be your baby for the rest of his life.

Love this project! Banjo is beautiful! Most all of my animals have been rescued by me, and I have loved them so so much. I am 75 yrs old and started taking in strays since my early 20s. They all were like children to me and were all so loyal and loving. I currently have 4 cats and they sure keep my hubs and me entertained! I never had children of my own, but to me they have all been my kids!!!! ❤️
I see myself in what you write, so much!!! I actually have 2 kitties at home, both fostered, one has arrived only two weeks ago.
They are my furry children, even if they only stay with me until the perfect family arrives... I don't have human kids either, and I wish and hope is that I'll still be sharing my life with kitties when I'm 75, like you and your husband! ☺
When we got our rescue they told us “3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months”. Each dog is different but the milestones they make is amazing with the love of the adopting person/people. Our Elle is still afraid of strangers but with us she is a zoomie dog. She runs through the house with such joy and happiness of being apart of our lives. She is amazing. 3 months ago I never thought we would be here. Please don’t give up on yours. Time is the answer.
I like these little sewn scraps. Good idea. You could leave scraps of fabric and ribbon in the same bin and zhuzh them up at the same time. As far as Banjo, thank you for rescuing the little guy. After being in the kennel for a while, he's apt to be on edge, but at that age, he should adapt relatively quickly. It will take him a couple of weeks to feel like you are his safe place and then as the trust grows, he'll relax. Dogs heal faster than we do from trauma because they don't look back on it in the same way.
We also got a saved dog. At first it seemed she was driving me crazy and I was ready to take her back but soon I began to understand how scared she was and she finally started to settle down. She is 9 months old and will get better with us. Keep up your shows. I am in Georgia in US and love watching you. Thank you.

Banjo is adorable. My advice for your new puppy is to remember he is still just a puppy. He needs to be taught things just like a child. For the first 2-3 years they are in the puppy stage. They eventually learn and calm down. Eventually, he will become the best loyal friend you can ask for. He will always be there by your side. He will never judge you and will give you the sweetest and purest unconditional love. The love you get from a dog is pure love. Remember to have patience and never give up on him, and he will never give up on you.
Banjo is sooo very lucky to have you! I'm glad you saved him. I had a rescue too, and went through the same emotions in the beginning. It took at least 3 months to get fully comfortable. When you think of it , he's adjusting to you and you're adjust to him and that takes time, patience, and lots of love which I know you have. I had to put my little buddy down this past year because he developed IVDD and it was so distressing. We had 10 wonderful years together and he was a big piece of my soul. Thank you for giving Banjo a chance. I spent a life time with rescues and once they feel comfortable they are loyal and devoted. They spend their life thanking you and trying to please you. Patience is the key. You have no idea what happened to them during their formative years but the good news is that they are very resilient. It is helpful for them to have their own space. Some place they can go when confused or frightened or just to be alone. Helping them to make good choices helps. Dog training or switching a good choice for a bad choice helps them to please you which is what they want to do. Good luck. And thank you!

Love these! We rescued an abused dog when he was 7 months old, it was a nightmare at first. He had severe separation anxiety the first time I left for work after getting him and chewed up everything in sight including a door frame and window blinds! I crated him after that while at work and gave lots of love when home. He only had to be crated for a couple of weeks and now, he is an 11 year old “old” man who is the perfect companion. I retired 3 years ago so we spend every day together just relaxing. I know you will heal Banjo soon. Thank you for rescuing him ❤

❤hi Natasja, I'm waiting for your book to be available here in the UK. I've pre-ordered and it's only coming out 25th August! Anyway what I sometimes use the offcut strips for is as a washi tape. I fold the piece in the length then the corners I cut a 45 degree angle and then both sides of the paper looks good.
I believe it's so wonderful when we save these rescue dogs. I saved my little so so even though she was sick. She had pancreatitis and it was a lot of work sometimes but her unconditional love was worth it she was ten when I got her so I only had her for about 6 years but it was worth it and I miss her so much now. What I did for my dog let her sleep on my bed until she got over her anxiety. She would wake up in the middle of the night shaking and crying and I would have to reassure her and then should go back to sleep. I'm not sure that would work with such a big dog. But once she felt more comfortable than she had her own bed. But she was always anxious if I was gone and was always thrilled to see me even if it only been 5 minutes. Patience and tender loving care is the only thing I know to say it just takes time

Thank you for rescuing Banjo. A good walk twice a day will help settle him.He's a young dog, so he's still learning and will probably chew things( keep your good shoes out of reach). Let your vet know what's going on, and they can recommend someone who can help. Australia has very good vets, which I'm sure you already know that.. please don't give up. With the right help, you'll get through to him. He's beautiful, by the way. As far as todays project, I don't think it was a waste of time. You are a good teacher, Natasa. I love ideas using book pages and scraps. 🙂❤️

You are a sweet soul for saving that beautiful puppy who only wants to be loved. I have an female who we rescued at 9 months old from a shelter, the state picked her up from a man that was abusing her. It was a hard first year and took a lot of patients from me and the dogs. Dog needs to trust again and it will take time. Try not to be hard on yourself and trust things will get better because they will!! Dogs are very resilient, loyal and loving. My female is 11 years old now and one of the best dogs I have ever had! Bandit will be your best friend too! Like any relationship it need nurturing. Blessings to you both!

Great post! Don't worry about the background noise. It's louder to you than to us. The only noise I heard was when Banjo barked and my dog got up and looked out the window 😊.
Good point! So many YT videos where people apologise for background sounds I can hardly hear, or can't hear at all. And even when I can hear them, I don't usually mind a bit of "life" in the background.
Thanks for saving him! He is beautiful. We took a year old golden retriever in that had been abused, most likely by a male considering she shook at the sight of men. Everyday for 2 years my hubby would come home, take his hat, coat and shoes off and sit on the floor. Our other 2 dogs wound run to him and lick him and play. Our Teasha would come to me and shake and cower. But she watched the interaction and after a week or two she would slowly walk towards him and the other dogs, to get a pet, a treat or play, but this routine was daily for a long time. We had her for almost 13 years and there were still times that she would wake up and be afraid of him again. So he would back up, sit on the floor and talk to her, while petting and playing with our other dogs and then she would eventually remember he was a safe person too. It happened once in her last month. We never did figure out what triggered her. I was her chosen person from the minute we met. She was a good dog and good with our teen sons after the first few tough months. She was never aggressive to the family, but she would bark at a strange man. I think having other dogs helped her learn she was in a safe home. They would walk with her and guide her to my hubby and on her bad days they snuggled with her even more. We had her about 5 years when I had our 3rd son. She was his baby sitter! If he made any sound and I wasn't going to him, Teasha would come and get me and walk me to our son, while the other dogs sat by his crib or playpen on guard duty. She was a wonderful dog! We just had to remember she had PTSD and never knew when it would flare up. When it did, we just kept the house & family a bit quieter, and talked to her before we pet her so she wasn't surprised by a pet.
Hang in there, it will take time but it's so worth it! If he sleeps like that by you in under a week, you are doing something right! He's learning you are safe and he needs to know he's in his forever home and will be safe there. He needs you to give him patience, love, snuggles, routine, and then even more patience and love. You can do this! If you have questions or concerns, reach out to your vet, a good idea to get your bets suggestions ASAP. But also please remember to reach out to your subbies too. Reading the comments so far, there are many of us with suggestions and encouragement for you. You encourage us, now let us return the favor and encourage you in this new area of your life!
