I've seen him Twice at my old church, about 30 yrs or more ago. He is AWESOME!!! I am VERY Blessed to have had the opportunity to see him live and talk to him. God Bless you Doyle!
I also have had the same privilege to meet and hear Doyle in a small music store setting. I agree 100%, thank you for putting it so perfectly when describing his incredible talent and spirit.
Wow, I forgot how really good he is. I've also seen him in person two or three times in the Cincinnati area. Not only is this guy blessed with mad talent but he is a really nice guy also.
I've just stumbled onto Doyle by accident while reviewing a guitar workshop lineup. He's without question one of the best finger picking guitarists I've ever seen. On top of that, as a midwesterner I really appreciate his southern roots. He's a fine example of what a guitar player should be.
I saw him an hour ago at Longview Metro Church in East Texas, this man truly has the hand of god on his life! I'm gonna try to upload some of his performance tonight!
AN AMAZING (and mostly little known and "not really famous") great great talent ! thanks for sharing this. ... loved the AMAZING GRACE also around 12 minutes in.
Doyle Dkykes is every Guitarist's "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" Dream to reach for as a picker... that but very few folks like Les Paul, Chet Atkins, Tommy Emmanuel, Jimi Hendrix, Bill Solley, Stephen Stills, Eric Clapton, Doc Watson, Andres Segovia, and many other ethereal artists on guitar ever reach. Poet Robert Browning says it best: "Ah, but a man's reach should exceed his grasp--or what's a heaven for?" Doyle is one of heaven's bequeathal's to the world during our time... Pure & Joyous!
lordkazama86...has it ever occurred to you that the reason Doyle plays mostly Country and Gospel is because he lives two hours from Nashville, plays often on the Grand Ole Opry and it is what his fans want to buy? It doesn't mean that it is all he is capable of. If you haven't heard him play other styles, you can "assure me" of nothing
That's the magic combo, Taylor guitar and Rivera Sedona 55ES amp. But I've heard Doyle play at a local guitar store and he could play a cigar box and make it sing. Doyle plays Guilds now.
Never seen Doyle live, but have seen one or two of his instructional vids released in the UK with Guitarist mag. I will never be as good as this guy, if I live to be a million. But I adore his style. Chet admired him, that should be enough for anybody. Yes, TE is brilliant as well - and there is room in the world for TE, Doyle, and a few others. I love Doyle's worh with Taylor as well - I am a Taylor owner - I've got the prototype 414CE and it's a lovely instrument
I saw him at a music store hear in Rockford, Illinois and was amazed...his daughters were with him and they we just helping like one big family real cool
Thanks Doyle .. i know in heaven YOU will be entertaining us !! even God could not play like you !! he would rather watch you playing !! its amazing the feelings you give me and many others when we see you play !! gosh you must have worked hard at it ? did you ?
beautiful! lovely choice of numbers too. I have 8 guitars but they all average to crap bought used on ebay. he has access to some amazing guitars and he deserves them. id take any one of those. this is some amazing playing
Is it really possible to dislike this? What did 18 people not like about this? I don't like that I haven't seen him live or that I will never play like this... ever. That's it.
yes and at times not just open G. He uses a Hawaiian type slack key. Notice sometimes the bass string is all the way down to a C. this guy kills it. personally would put him at or above Chet atkins
This man completely body the entire first 58 seconds of this video can anybody tell me if this was freestyles or there's an actual instrumental to the whole thing
Well , thanks, but I was just trying to sell that li'l baby Taylor and she's gone now ! Sold to a good player who had not previously heard of Doyle. Just like me , when I acquired that guitar. Since then I have turned a few others on to him. So all that signing of boxes slowly but surely brings new fans to marvel at this genius !
fingerpicking sounds good on those taylors! But i like flat picking on a martin any day . clay jones ,Tony Rice ,Coty Kilby,Josh Williams,Dan Tyminski are all great flatt [pickers].This Guy is great!!
does anyone know if that 2nd or 3rd song he plays is a real song...its the one with the blues style on the mahogany baby taylor...oh and I own a Taylor 814 and its nowhere close to thin...people who hate are those who just are too damn jealous...if you have a nicer guitar and can play better than DD, just show it here on youtube before you critique...
ah, gdasher, a man after my own heart. Are you a fan at all of Joscho Stephan? The man has it all. Doyle is incredible also (something of a guitar hero for me), but for gypsy jazz Joscho packs a hell of a punch. Very Django influenced.
I've seen him Twice at my old church, about 30 yrs or more ago. He is AWESOME!!! I am VERY Blessed to have had the opportunity to see him live and talk to him. God Bless you Doyle!
Absolutely LOVE his amazing talent. We first saw him at the Grand Ol Opry about 14 or 15 years ago and I have been a fan ever since.
the king of fingerpicking and dynamic transition! bravo!
Just takes one off the wall hang tags and all and plays the heck out of it. Amazing.
Big Ron
What an absolute master. Can't hear enough of him.
These performances really touched me, (especially the last one).
Thank you, Doyle. Sharing your talent is inspirational...
I also have had the same privilege to meet and hear Doyle in a small music store setting. I agree 100%, thank you for putting it so perfectly when describing his incredible talent and spirit.
One of the best! Great guitarist!!!

I love it. Everytime I watch this, my jaw drops. I'm gonna be up there one day. I swear.
Doyle is truly a national treasure. A wonderful man.
Sorry, no you won’t. Doyle’s talent is one in ten billion gift from God! Sorry.
You can do it bro 👍
Are you there yet?
I don't can't even understand how he fingerpicks that good, truly a master. I'm surprised that I've never heard of this guy before.
I saw him an hour ago at Longview Metro Church in East Texas, this man truly has the hand of god on his life! I'm gonna try to upload some of his performance tonight!
This guy was at guitar works playing during my lesson tonight and I've never been so impressed by an instrument
Yes. That is some excellent guitar. I can't believe how good that baby Taylor sounded! I have to find one to try. Thanks for sharing this!

thanks for sharing this. ... loved the AMAZING GRACE also around 12 minutes in.
Maybe you can't really say who the best guitar player is. But you can say that there's no one better!!
17 and a half minutes of picking Nastiness....unbelievable talent! amazing!!!!
One word sums him up as a musician AND human being !!! Genius !!!!
I have seen him in person and believe me, he could play anything no matter what manufacturer or price and make it sound great...
Ive seen doyle live and his taylors do sound pretty thin, but i still love him he rocks
The artificial harmonics at Twelve minutes and on are insane. This guy is incredible.

I'm speechless...OMG what a player!
kind of redefines the guitar. Amazing...
i agree with you on the Don Ross comment....that guy is just great
the one where he is with kazumi watanabe reminded me of old videos of Chet Atkins and Les Paul.
This is so amazing and tasteful it's not even funny. This guy is the guitar hero.
That's the magic combo, Taylor guitar and Rivera Sedona 55ES amp. But I've heard Doyle play at a local guitar store and he could play a cigar box and make it sing. Doyle plays Guilds now.
His picking blows me away but the man himself is more awesome than any entertainer I've ever met.
I've seen him live. Legit as can be. Great player and great entertainer. A+
one of the underrated guitarist that i know of! some of his pop song arrangements are amazing
Greatest guitar player EVER. Now then and next. :)
"Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" by U2 around 5:00! That's awesome. What a cool arrangement.
Never seen Doyle live, but have seen one or two of his instructional vids released in the UK with Guitarist mag. I will never be as good as this guy, if I live to be a million. But I adore his style. DOYLE MAKES IT LOOK EFORTLESS... THERE ARE NOW WORDS... RICH SHEFF 60's ROCK/BLUES PICKER. :)
He does Taylor clinics at guitar shops nationwide. If you get an opportunity to attend one, do NOT miss it.
Doyle is the real deal!
Fantastic video - welll done on the compilation.
I saw him at a music store hear in Rockford, Illinois and was amazed...his daughters were with him and they we just helping like one big family real cool
Best guitar player I have seen!!!
this is WAY more impressive than those metal heads who can speed pick really fast.
beautiful
Thanks Doyle .. i know in heaven YOU will be entertaining us !! even God could not play like you !! he would rather watch you playing !! its amazing the feelings you give me and many others when we see you play !! gosh you must have worked hard at it ? did you ?
best fingerstyle player ever
Awesome talent! Great stuff!
but what i really like about doyle is that he honours jesus - which makes all the difference
the song at 6:11-7:11 is amazing. too bad i can never afford one of those lol! that was EXACTLY the kind of sound i would want my guitar to create.
I love Taylor guitars! I wish I could afford a black DD taylor, man that guy is amazing
Out of all the guitar players in the world he's in the upper .00000000001 %
There are two Living GitarGods of Thumbpicking: Doyle and Tommy :-), both unbelieveable
beautiful! lovely choice of numbers too. I have 8 guitars but they all average to crap bought used on ebay. he has access to some amazing guitars and he deserves them. id take any one of those. this is some amazing playing
That's the best version of caravan I've ever heard
This guitarist is very interesting and plays a marvelous guitar.
Bravo Great posting
All thumbs UP
Claude
This guys a guitar playing god
"Taylor" could have found no other to represent their ensturments as well, because he can bring more out of a guitar than anyone, bar none!
Whenever you feel useless, just remember doyle dykes's bass player
An astonishing guitarist!!
Yeah I was surprised by that also! Great guy.
Is it really possible to dislike this? What did 18 people not like about this? I don't like that I haven't seen him live or that I will never play like this... ever. That's it.
The king of Open-G tuning..
yes and at times not just open G. He uses a Hawaiian type slack key. Notice sometimes the bass string is all the way down to a C. this guy kills it. personally would put him at or above Chet atkins
this is the wrong video to be posting that comment cause this is a perfect example of how taylors sound loud and pure.
Thanks for the vids....off to check out his web-site!! First I've heard of him...& I'm still freaked. Incredible!
i love the sound of taylors there the best acoustic by far and he is doing taylor pound by playin there instrument in such a way that makes u envy him

Cant beat a Taylor!!!
He's a great guitar man!
Thank you :)
good lord you can play!!!! i only dream of being this good haha it will never happen though. your amazinggg.
fingerpicking sounds good on those taylors! But i like flat picking on a martin any day . clay jones ,Tony Rice ,Coty Kilby,Josh Williams,Dan Tyminski are all great flatt [pickers].This Guy is great!!
@JaredAugerot Correction, first performed by Duke, composed by Juan Tisol.
The jam he gets into around 3:53 does it for me....but he's always great .......
It's his Expression System. I imagine if he instead mic'd each guitar, everyone would be complementing his tone.
Amazing!
Uncalled for.
you tell him man. DD has speed, precision, and style. Who the hell does this Josh think he is to make his rediculous comment?!
Great Stuff!!Real Talent.
By Far my favourite Guitar is the last one = Beautiful
YOU ROCK BROTHER, WHERE DO YOU PLAY? IF YOUR NOT ON THE ROAD YOU SHOULD BE.....AWESOME
Yes. It is a signature model that Doyle helped design.
They don't sound like that live, I've played Doyle's guitar on stage and it sounded AWESOME
Cheers dude
Anyone know name of the first song and is there a complete video of Doyle playing it?
The name of the last song is, "The Battle Hymn of the Republic."
At 3:53, that is a U2 song. He's plays a medley of them.
does anyone know if that 2nd or 3rd song he plays is a real song...its the one with the blues style on the mahogany baby taylor...oh and I own a Taylor 814 and its nowhere close to thin...people who hate are those who just are too damn jealous...if you have a nicer guitar and can play better than DD, just show it here on youtube before you critique...
