If you're in a forest in the south you better be wearing an orange vest or some idiot hunter will shoot you and excuse it by saying "well, I thought it was a deer". I'm from Georgia so I know what I'm talking about.

In 3rd grade my family moved from Illinois to Alabama. I was an excellent reader and not a single kid in my class could read. The teacher had me help them teach kids to read... in 3rd grade. The public school system in Alabama is very sad. Thankfully my mom pulled me out and I started homeschool after that. Ended up graduating a year early and going to college at 17.

We use “Yankee” in a bunch of different contexts. The only time it’s said the way yall took it is in an actual discussion of the civil war. It’s mostly a blanket term for northerners or “city folk”. Not always said negatively either. I don’t think that guy said it as an insult at all. Just in reference to differing speech patterns

Legitimate answer to the question of it’s continuing usage… it’s pretty much already phased out. You’ll hear it occasionally, but I don’t know if I’ve ever heard it from anyone under 25.
