Add an extra column or two to the combat board? Or maybe - as you suggest - a bit of a rethink?

Feels like the combat expansion should replace the combat in the base game all together, but too late now i guess...
If you can do something about the downtime at 3+ players (something for the other players to do while combat for 2 players is in progress), i'll be backing it.
@@kefyras347 I'm pretty sure there's a very easy fix for 4 players with 2 alliances - have 1 alliance (2 players in same alignment) move simultaneously, while the opposing players battle them.
Most of the stuff happens without hero on hero interaction, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Hmm. Watching the video just makes me want to load and play the video game itself, saving all the troubles of fiddling with the analog version.
I have been so excited for this game since it was first announced over a year ago. I think they have done a great job of distilling the video game mechanics into a board game. I like the deck building solution for the equipment and spells and whatnot. I also think that the basic combat will be improved since they changed it to four lanes instead of three. Anyways, I am jealous that you got to try the prototype out beforehand but glad that you liked most of what you saw. Perhaps my new channel will get to the point someday where I can get sent prototypes and demos of upcoming games. Love what you are doing. Keep it up.

I like that this is streamlined compared to Mage Knight or Euthia, it seems like it shouldn’t be hard to get on a table. But on the other hand it still feels like something that’s mostly fun solo, and would I play such a minimal version of the game solo? Mostly for nostalgia I fear. I’m really tempted but probably should pass.

I've been looking forward to this review and appreciate your opinions as honest feedback. There is something I am not convinced about though and I'm not sure if it is the conclusion, format of the review or something else that left me thinking "Did you really enjoy it?".
Probably just format. I'm still trying improve this type of review. In the "need for speed" I accentuate less and provide little examples. It's a balance and I think I skewed toward speed too much on this one personally for that very reason. Normally you see me excitedly talking about this neat situation or whatever and all that's cut out here. So sorry about that!

6:20 I am passing on this one. I have the already established and known to be a good game of Mage Knight: Ultimate Edition, which has similar mechanics - moving around the hex board and exploring; deckbuilding; etc.

What would be the typical play time?
Man, I like the format, is really giving the perception how the game touched you in less than 10 min. Of course everyhing is your opinion but is clarify some of the open question that I have like there are a lot of option but is not overwhelming the player with thousand of rules.

Rules aren't too bad since not all apply to all modes. Playing competitive? Don't need any of the campaign, AI, trading rules, etc. They don't even come into the equation.

I would like to know about Solo ability of this game is it best experience on Solo mode too ? How about replay ability of Solo mode ? Because in computer Tactic game it will have some AI to determine economy of their town, create unit to deploy, expedition. I just curious how AI deck will able to handle that case if it was Town Building and expedition at the same time ? I'm really do like Hero Might of Magic however my experience on Board Game is very little I was just purchased Eldritch Horror so understand about random ability of Solo game but Eldritch horror was quite straight forward due to it just random card event but how about HMoM 3 AI can be able to building their own town while sent unit on expedition map too at the same time how can AI Deck prioritize something quite complex like this ??? Or AI just had static program behavior for build town, expedtion map to compete with Solo player ?

How is replayability? Both solo (like made knight) or with more players
Imagine hexagons with mini displays which dynamically changes :D
Memorizes last positions or reveals new.. It's like real FOW..

As a massive fan of Mage Knight, this looks extremely interesting. That being said, I would get this exclusively for the solo mode, and am really unsure if it will excel in that regard
Given how comprehensive MK is, it's pretty hard to see any board game in this style to compete. But that's my opinion.

As you said, the combat seems little bit boring, less strategies could be involved within the space so limited, while the combat was one of most interesting part in the video game, actually you did everything to prepare for that combat. In this version of board game, it just seems straight, then boring.
consider that you play with others on the table and most of the calcualtions was done by the PC i bet such combats would drag on while other players.... sit there and watch
@@Zanji1234 In Heros 3, it could be super fun to watch the others doing the combat. You can give advices, good or bad ones, but it was just fun, and it was even more interesting watching your friend play than playing it yourself at home in the old time.
Check what they did with the super stretch goal. You could cover this a newbmaterial with title -when autora lie about stretch goals

As far as i know, you cannot use the grid battleboard in the main game. It's only usable to separate skirmish battles, outide of the main game scenarios. Battle and downtime makes it a bummer for me...
I'm pretty sure they said you can use it in the main game, but it just takes much longer

How bad is it store? Does the box contain some kind of insert, or is this another game where a trip to the hardware store is required to build a box?
As you comment in the video, I think this game can only work well solo or 2 player co-op. That being the case, I already have Mage Knight in my collection and an Euthia all-in on the way. I don't think I need this game.
I think I will play the game again, hope my tablet pc can handel it

consider this: the FULL combat during a regular game. So whenever two players in a 4 player or more game have a battle the others have to wait and... can do nothing while i think this battle WILL take longer. Therefore i'm totally ok with it that the base game is like "ok here is the quick version"
To be fair, sitting and waiting thinking wtf is taking so long IS the homm experience 😉
Oh yeah totally understood. The problem would be increased a lot if it were otherwise. 2 player though I'd be okay with a bit more "oomph" to it so will be happy with the combat expansion. :)

@@TheKingofAverage the combat expansion looks neat but also takes a lot of table room. Breaking it down and setting it up every time doesn't seem very feasibility for the time it would take.
Might be an interesting module for a stand alone skirmish game?

I am a big fan of HOMM and I like the design and artwork of this boardgame as well as how much stuff you can get for the listed price. However, I am just not sure if the gameplay will be fun with friends and family who know nothing about the PC game. Combat in particular seems bland. I am trying to convince myself to back the game by watching reviews so thanks for this video.
I hope they have an introduce all the creature and different Castles of creatures that were in the game I play Heroes of Might and Magic 3 complete every single day I'm disabled with cerebral palsy and this is my favorite game of all time

Not currently, but soon! In a month or so they'll release the Pledge Manager which will allow anyone to still get pay for it :)
i loved the video game back in the days, and i love miniature boardgames now... but i will not back it. Honestly only a two player game and a very long playing time... maybe 20 years to late for me! ;)
Am I the only one irked by the minis not having an hexagonal base with proper ones haing 2 hexes like in the game?

This looks cool but unfortunately it will likely never make it to the table. The video game took all day to play one game, the board game will probably take weeks to finish one game.
hehe thankfully it never took that long, but I also regulated myself to max 2 players after the first downtime game so that helps. Honestly not too bad at just 2.
Can I play cooperative vs “AI”? Like a campaign with two players.

its gonna be pricy as hell tho, 75 dollars for the base game with only 6 hero miniatures only 3 cities (castle, dungeon and necropolis), theres gonna be an azure version with the creature miniatures for 119 dollars, the one im probably gonna get (if i have the money) is the grail version for 169 dollars which has 2 more cities (fortress and rampart) and the battlefield expansion, finally theres a collectors edition for 199 dollars which tacks on some artwork and posters on top
On the unit cards, we see the same picture for the unit before and after ungrated, a little bit disappointed about that.

I wish more of these huge KS boardgames sold just their minis. I love these minis, but I know I would never play this game.
Feels weird to get this as a board game when the original HOMM3 with all the mods are much, much cheaper. If you want a modern spiritual remake, Songs of Conquest
Didn’t like song of conquest personally. I found it to be quite shallow, but certainly a good looking game.
I don't get the comment... all the Boardgame from a videogame are more expensive than the videogame, is just a matter of production cost. The difference is how you value the product and the experience that can give to you. I play Skirim as videogame and also as VR game and, althought is the same game, is giving to me a different experience. I'm looking for the boardgame that I will be able to play with my kids... another experience of the same game/concept but in a different contest.
I was looking for Slay the Spire boardgame and I found it overpriced for what you get... maybe is this your thought?
@@patriziopastore9895 If the board game offers nearly the same decisions and experience as the video game, why bother with a more expensive cumbersome product? Slay the Spire is the perfect example of this. It plays way too similar to the video game for three times the price, way more setup, and more fiddly. Why bother?
At least with some other games like Civilization A New Dawn or Reload, they offer something unique to the board game medium while maintaining the "feel" of what they are based on.
@@Marky_X hi man, I got your point and I agree with that, slay the spire is the perfect example but there are game like the one you mention or resident evil and hopefully Skyrim that give a different experience. And plus don’t forget that a board game with some friends… is a sharing night, honestly I will prefer playing the god of war instead slay the spire on console or lost ark on PC

i have said it before and my opinion was quite unpopular, but i will say it again - this is perhaps the easiest game to transfer from PC to board, since it's already played on the grid. The way combat is done on PC is already perfect.
Here's the obvious question - if the PC and board games should be exactly the same, why not just play PC? Answer: because imagine how cool it would be to play on board ;)
Besides it will be expanded with deck building for magic etc.
This honestly had so much potential, but i don't think it will live up to it
The thing is... Your mostly gonna get the Complete version of the video game for 2.50 on GOG sales.... Instead of paying 170 euros for this...

Honest question: What reputation? I've backed two of their projects in the past and never had any problem with them (Dungeons & Lasers 1 & 2). If anything, they have been better than most other kickstarters I've backed. I'd like to know if there is something I need to worry about before I back.

You never hear opinions about what it's like to ride the map with the hero. They always talk about the fight. It's not 100% of the game though. It's like no one has played this game.

I'll be playing this 2 player though for sure. Keeps the time lower and both are really involved then.

talking about 170 bucks as it is nothing, yikes, i see boardgames are something else when it comes to money
you did not say one word about all that content h3 fans play the game for and that is taken out unecessary. examples: no wood, no gems, no mercury, no sulfur, no luck, np subterrain, no ocean, no frontier garrisons, towers, and keyholder tents, 15 heroes per faction missing, and much more. deckbuilding is a dump all is thrown in and then get 3 of them by random, what a crap.
open your eyes, see what you get, otherwise you will be disappointed after you spend hundreds euro.
