      Usually I appreciate your perspective,
But this time I'll go with another awesome content provider which his reason for the answer (to the same question, asked by my friend) sounds much more appealing:
      "
I'd start with Legacy as it teaches you how to play the game and then in the end you have lots more Nemesis, gems, and spells to add to your base Aeon's End game as well as Breach Mages.

Deck Building was introduced to the hobby by StratCraft: The Board Game.
I am amazed by how many people think Dominion was the first game to feature Deck Building, which is not true.
Paradoxically, the Deck Building in StarCraft: The Board Game (an Ameritrash game) was less random as a mechanic than how it is used nowadays in modern Eurogames.

  • @iansutton7416
    @iansutton7416 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Good to see Dominion on there, even though it's not a game I particularly enjoy. It is very much a 'pure' deckbuilder that must have influenced a huge number of other games.
I do like innovative use of deckbuilding, and especially deckbuilding as a mechanism that fits seamlessly into the game / theme (more so than pure deckbuilding, which I find a bit bland).
So I'll put in some good words for:
Undaunted series - a very thematic use of deckbuilding that feels original, but taps into the balance of building up the deck, thinning it, clogging up an opponent's deck, or focusing on the actions the deck allows. This gives the game different layers, and absolutely demands paying attention to what your opponent does, rather than following a preferred strategy.
Quest for El Dorado: The deckbuilding plays a 'supporting actor' role in the game, but I love the way it allows fans of the genre to indulge themselves with deck-thinning and other special (pink coloured) cards, whilst others can focus more on the straightforward green, yellow and blue cards, and indeed the race itself. Thus I find it very useful as a game I can play with those very experienced in deckbuilders and absolute novices, and either can win.
I saw a game being playtested a week ago, that has a twist on deckbuilding that I've not seen before. I won't give the game / its uniqueness away, but it's great to see genuine innovation (albeit in a genre that I'm not especially interested)

You take 2 pre made decks of 20 cards from different factions, shuffle them together to form your deck then compete against each other to gain control of different areas to score points. 9. Thunderstone Advance (especially the coop tower defence mode)
    10. Orléans (bag building)
Some honorable mentions, I mean games that are partly higher on my all time list but Deckbuilding is either a minor part or it's no typical Deckbuilding (e.g. no drawing from a deck or no shuffling), but still you individualize your deck/hand during the game:
    1. Pathfinder Adventure Card Game
    2. Great Western Trail
    3. Mage Knight
    4. Mombasa/Skymines
    5. Luna Maris
    6. Condordia
    7. Spirit Island
    8. Blackout Hongkong
    9. Viscounts of the West Kingdom
    10. Century: Spice Road

I always find it interesting when Dominion makes it onto a list like this, but no one mentions Arctic Scavengers. It’s basically Dominion with an actual theme and a bluffing mechanic. Very underrated!

One of the reasons for us would be that we sadly have not played it.

Dune: Imperium at #1 is absolutely right.

Wow except for hero realms as my number 10 I guess what a shitty list 🤣
Not sure about how I rank mine but for sure after the virus and superhot the card game are on my top 3.
Ausonia, warps edge, God of war, hero realms, rune age, Dunguen brawler, feudalia, Shake up, asgard chosen.
So 11...i probably get rid from this list feudalia

How dare you compare Legendary (great) to Ascencion (sucks), and should be probably Top 3 (not outdated Dominion). If not already played by you, check out Tyrants of the Underdark.

You guys meat ride Dune for no reason it's crazy... it's the WORST deck builder out there for so many reasons.
It's a shame because this was a great list otherwise
