    I love wild Violets . I had a big old tractor tire in my yard that was full of wild violets and yarrow. I would dig up the wild Yarrow that grew in the yard and plant it in the tire. So pretty when it bloomed even though it was wild. Hated to see it mowed over so I had to save it :) Just a goofy gardener I guess . Thanks for this video .

      These are the best, I try to save them whenever they show up in the wrong place, now they are all over the garden!

    Wow, that was really informative, such beautiful little flowers. I didn't know they came in colors other than dark purple and light purple. Have to confess I have tried to eat them. Great video! Thank you.

      Thank you! The white with blue stripes are actually an escaped cultivar, I even saw one once with white leaves.

    I have a recipe for violet syrup but I was confused on what type of violets I could use. This is very helpful thank you.

      I grew up in north central Texas, we called an entirely different plant violets. I am now in western Washington, and have lots of these in my yard.

    I spray them out of the lawn, but I have a small bed in a shade n sun area under a tree providing decorative cover for ground that grass can't grow on.

    Hmmmmm...very interesting and informative. I must add that these wild flowers are just beautiful. Even though they can be eaten, do people still eat them??

    • @GiveitaGrow
      @GiveitaGrow  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I eat them :) Most people don't eat wild greens at all anymore, and with most of them tasting bitter I can see why. These, however, are very tasty!

    My daughter and son in law have a home just seventy five yards from my house. They have a lot of wild violets. When I got to looking close at the ones in my yard I saw that I have a whole lot of spiderwort. The leaves or totally different but when I just glanced I thought I had a whole field of violets. Anybody know if spiderwort has medicinal uses?

    Are there violets that are vines? Are they edible? The vine variety?

    These are invading my strawberries, I may have to give them a try. Do they taste anything like pansies?

    Good morning. I bought some riverfront property in Arkansas recently, and am identifying what herbs grow here. Edibility, medicinals, and what is poisonous. I have violets growing here like crazy. There’s 4 different colored flowers here. Wish comments would allow pictures. Purple, blue, light blue, and yellow. I’ve also seen elsewhere that yellows are uncertain regarding edibllity.
    But here, no violets, including the yellows have any fine hairs like your picture. I’m curious as to why. Are there 2 different yellow violet species? One with hair, one without. 🤷🏻‍♂️ actively trying to figure it out. Any knowledgeable help out there?

      One Neighbors yard is a bit wilder than mine, the other tries to mill all 'weeds'. Luckily most of my violets are near house or hedge so guarded. I've been slowly harvesting to dry. Going to make tea later to do the lemon color change tomorrow at school.

    I enjoy eating various wildflowers.
    However, you are getting Extra protein. If squeamish, never look at the flowers under a microscope. Lots of ‘activity’.
