This Spring edible plant can be found growing in many countries throughout the world and have been used for centuries as wild food and medicine. They makes a gorgeous looking infusion, can be eaten raw or cooked and they make a nice addition to salads and deserts! Keep an eye out for this nutritious, beneficial and beautiful plant during the Springtime. Of course, before eating any wild plant you must be 100% positive in your identification and do plenty of research on the plant before hand.

    My back yard is LOADED with these every year. They have encroached into my garden and would take over if not tilled under, which does not seem to stop them. So at least now I know I can eat them :) It's May here in Wisconsin, they have not flowered yet and we got lots of rain so they will be great eating. Thank you !

    Do you use only the flowers for the tea or do you use the leaves as well?

    • @SmallSeeds
      @SmallSeeds  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can also brew the leaves for a herbal tea. They tend to be more mucilaginous. However, making one with just the flowers will produce the beautiful color.

    • @SmallSeeds
      @SmallSeeds  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes!! There are a bunch of different species of wild violets growing worldwide which can be used as food and medicine. Viola odorata is a native species to Europe and is the one most commonly used in herbal preparations. It has a very sweet scent to it. The species in this video is native to the US. There are many others than can be found in both the US & UK as well.
