    These headphones are offered in first class in the U.S. Airlines flights to Japan :)
    Definitely, the best noise cancelling experience I have ever had in an airplane...
    Great review and thumbs up!

      Stupid question but do you get to keep them? Aha

    • @xLOVExGODx
      @xLOVExGODx 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +ianalegre17 Nah, that's not a stupid question...
      You would think that after paying thousands of dollars to fly first class they would include the headphones as a free gift but that's not the case.
      You need to return the headphones at the end of the flight that's one of the first things they collect 30 minutes prior to landing.

    • @ianalegre17
      @ianalegre17 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +xLOVExGODx damn that sucks. Well at least you had a great time in you flight. First class and bose headphones as a provided headphone, nothing beats that aha

    • @xLOVExGODx
      @xLOVExGODx 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +ianalegre17 The flight was amazing but I wouldn't ever pay thousands myself for an international flight...
      Honestly, I was upgraded due to my job :)
      Definitely, the only way to fly whenever you're willing to spend thousands to fly overseas...

    I gotta say this is a really good review. Haven't seen one this great in years. Usually, most headphone reviews are boring and I just skip some parts of the video because it is too long, but this review is just good in every subject I can think of. Keep up the good work.

    Loved this review! Thanks! I'm honestly surprised I'm just now finding you but you definitely have a sub.
    I just found out about the Bose QC25s today, and was stoked being that I've been using (and loving) the QC15s for about 3 years now. Your review definitely provided a great in-depth look at everything I needed (and wanted) to know before hitting a Bose shop.
    Simply put: You are awesome! I'm looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
    Take care sir :)

    this review was extremely helpful. I just got a pair of these tonight. I wanted these mainly for the noise cancelling aspect of it. So I am very happy that's where it excels

  • @rattusp.rattus2156

    I find the noise cancelling works quite well when travelling on most modern jet planes, but doesn't work properly on older prop. planes. It reduces some of the noise but introduces a flapping noise, actually sounds like you are right next to a flag thats flapping in the wind. The same flapping noise can occur intermittently to a lesser extent if you're sitting right up the back behind the engines on a Fokker 100 / Boeing 717.
    Probably not going to be an issue for most passengers though, but definitely something to consider if your often flying smaller regional flights

    @Christina Liu your Googe+ privacy settings are set so that no one can reply directly to your comments, you need to change this! Is it possible the leak is from your glasses?

    • @lachlanlikesathing
      @lachlanlikesathing  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Christina Liu Hmm that's odd. Do you mean sound leaking inside or outside of the headphone?

    • @christinaliu125

      Outside, I tried them in a quiet room at about 50% and my friend could clearly hear the lyrics of the song I was listening to..

    • @lachlanlikesathing

      Oh. It might leak out because of the open microphone ports. I didn't try this myself...

    I've had the QC25 since early November when my wife got me a set for my Birthday. I agree with everything you said. I would add that I do a lot of international travel for work and these headsets have been a godsend when flying. A whining or crying child is almost silenced with this headset. Also the low frequency ambient noise is gone. Great job on your video.

    I've been wanting to get noise canceling headphones for months, and I'm glad I made the right choice to get QC25. I would recommend this to any daily commuter. Really makes a difference in my daily routine when loud noises get muffled out significantly. What used to be a dreaded Sunday commute is now a pleasant experience

    Really great review man! I've had the QC15's for 2 years now and just recently picked up the QC20i noise canceling earbuds. I'm excited to eventually check the QC25's out and might even trade in my QC20i's for them if they seem good enough. My QC15's were by far the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn. The only issue for me was portability going back and fourth from school and other activities that requires a lot of short distance traveling. That's where the QC20i's really have the advantage, but still love my QC15's for long plane rides and other long distance traveling. I'll definitely have to try the QC25's when I see them in my area. Thanks again!

    I have a pair of QC25's, I love em. I agree that the sub bass is lacking, but I wear these at work to help me focus and concentrate and drown out distractions. I think in that scenario the sound and noise cancelling from these headphones is amazing. Very mellow and relaxing yet still upbeat with most music. I thought long and hard about buying these headphones given the price, but once i made the decision to buy, i never questioned that decision. If you are looking for great NC, sound that makes you want to hear every note and can afford them, they are well worth the price. Good medicine for the ears.

  • @AmoungTheSky
    @AmoungTheSky 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I tried a pair and they marvelously work (the sound-cancelling bit)! I plugged it into my phone to see how my own music would fare on these headphones and all you've said are very true; about how the sound becomes mellow or softer rather than tighter, with not too much emphasis on the bass. Though I was slightly disappointed with this aspect, I did enjoy the "experience" of the noise cancelling, and isn't one to be missed out on!
    I would personally grab a pair had I gotten the $$$ to afford it haha..
    Nice thorough review! You've earned yourself another sub! ;p

      +CPMario72 Keep in mind that you haven't used them and you're one of the sheep haters who just goes around repeating what you've heard from someone else. Take it from a hardcore audiophile who's owned and listened to every headphone worth listening, and is far from beings a beats fan.

      @simba6772 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +CPMario72 dude you probably never owned a pair of beats, I used to hate on beats then I got the Pros and after the Studio Wireless and was BLOWN away! yes they don't sound accurate in any way but they actually sound amazing! Just so you know I've owned a pair of ATH M50X ever since they came out until now and I enjoy my beats just as much. However, M50X are a better buy obviously for your money but it doesn't mean beats suck! I also know a lot about audio companies e.g. Beyerdynamic, Seinnheiser, Grado, Sony etc...

    A very, very good review. I absolutely agree with your critics. I had the QC3 before. So compared the sound quality for the QC3 against the QC25, the QC25 looses however, the noise cancellation is aboutly amazing.

  • @onastudentbudget8647
    @onastudentbudget8647 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    i think i know your your getting at lachlan, in your sound quality portion. If you cut out enough noise (like the qc25 seems to do) its like listening in the quiet of your own home. where you can turn down the volume, hear more details in the music as opposed to having to contend with all the ambient noises that come with commuting, and travelling. the qc 25 is really their company's bread and butter without a doubt. and i think the toned down treble is really why so many air travellers use them for their long flights in addition to their lightweight and comfort. Everytime i travel, on planes especially i always see the qc15s (the older versions) everywhere.

    • @lachlanlikesathing

      On A studentbudget Right - I was always curious about the QC15 myself after seeing so many people travel with them, and now I completely understand!

    Even with current day standards you review is still pretty good, and objective too.
    I picked up a well looked after pair this year for a really good price, you are right about how cheap the listening experience becomes once that ANC button is off though. When it's on, however, there's a crisper definition in the vocals and mids as you aptly put it, so you can tell you are not using cheap headphones but they are not quite audiophile grade. I'm normally more concerned with the audio fidelity of headsets more than their noise cancelling ability but I have to say, the proper implementation of noise cancelling on these cans made me notice. I have other noise cancelling sets but Bose did a really great job at ANC on these, and the acoustic seal too to be honest. For what i got them for, they make excellent daily work desk companions.

    After watching your review I went to jbhifi and had a listen to the QC25, and I have to say that your impressions are very accurate in my opinion! I just wanted to add that the noise cancelling made me feel a bit sick (similar to motion sickness), so i looked it up and apparently noise cancelling has that sort of effect on some people. Just wondering if you had this experience...thankyou for the review! It was very helpful!

    Actually, Bose made in-store listening station that makes noise to demonstrate ANC feature.
    They had QC15 station, that generates noise when u starts to hear music
    and when u take off headphone, u are impressed how much noise was around there.
    I believe they will do same with QC25.

    • @PlaneCDR
      @PlaneCDR 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** I did end up buying them. I had Beats Studio and they sound really good, but they were uncomfortable and hot. The constant noise canceling hiss was annoying when listening to classical music. Finally, the left ear rattled during heavy bass hits.
      The build quality and comfort of the QC25 are great. The noise canceling is the best I have used over the years.
      The sound is good, but I would have liked a bit more bass, as you pointed out. Changing the EQ settings on my Mac fixes the problem easily. On my iPhone however, I find that the max volume is not as loud as it should be and the bass is still not strong enough, even with the equalizer turned on. That said, the all around sound is pretty authentic and the noise cancellation does mitigate the lack of volume.
      Thanks for asking. Great channel, by the way!

    • @DarkSideConquer
      @DarkSideConquer 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, I had the same experienced with Beats studios. those were the main reasons why I end up buying the qc25.

  • @G4lx4yW1hsprr
    @G4lx4yW1hsprr 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    The reason why I usually purchase Bose is for their neutral bass spectrum. Now that I have upgraded to the NC series, a new door has opened in front of me.
    It really is a matter of what kind of music and what kind sound you want to hear, eventually deciding what headphone you want to get.

  • @jiantingli4945
    @jiantingli4945 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Bose QC15 was my first headphone that I fall in love with after first listening. I am aware that the sound quality is not on par with other headphones around that $300 price tag, but to me it's a big improvement in sound quality since I had not listen to any better headphones at that time. However, what was most important was that like what Laclanlikesathing said in this video, the noise cancellation is so effective that I am able to listen to a lot of the details of the music and to immerse myself into it without any outside noise distractions. The ultra comfort design also greatly help me immerse into the music. I was very pleased with QC15.
    When QC25 came out, I was thrilled and bought it immediately. After listening to it, I didn't like the new sound signature and returned it. It was not until I watch this video that I realize why I didn't like the sound signature of the QC25. Despite having better design, noise cancellation, and comfort, that sloppy Bass Laclanlikesathing mentioned in this video, is forwarded in the QC25 compare to the QC15. That boasted Bass in the QC25 muffles the mids and highs, which was very distracting and intolerable. In other words QC15 sounds more detail and natural compare to QC25.

    Just got a pair, and you're bang on about the bass (everything, in fact). I thought to myself, wow, is this how the base sounds like in a pair of headphones that retail for around £270? Having said that though, I literally had the best long-haul flight entertainment and slumber experience, because the QC25 just gave me a tranquillity otherwise not possible. So overall, recommend if the purpose/intention of the user is to get something that annihilates distracting sounds beyond your and your pair of cans.

    Excellent review Lachlan!!
    I am not sure what material the cable is made with, but either way, I must advise you never allow the cable to bend right above and below the remote. There is no strain relief on both points and the cable sheath is rather thin. I am not sure if the cable material/thickness is different from that of the in-ears, but I've owned 3 earphones from Bose.. all of which began to rip and fray at those points within 6-8 months of use. I am by no means rough with my gear either.
    Thanks for the great review!!

  • @danmetzler6258

    Someone might have commented this already, but the slight hissing is only present/noticeable when the headphone is plugged into something. So if you're listening to music or watching a movie, it completely covers up the hissing. And if you're just using the headphone to block out noises, you can simply unplug either end of the cable and it goes away, leaving you in complete, undisturbed silence.

    Wow, really detailed, excellent review. About your remark at 14:43 I have to say, today, I tried these headphones in an electronics megastore, today. There was really a lot of noise all around, including some fairly loud music, but it got soo much quieter when I put these on, it was a surreal experience. Nothing was playing on the headphones themselves, but soo much noise was just blocked out. But I rarely buy on impulse (especially considering the price), so here I am, checking reviews. Seriously considering to buy a pair though. Whathifi seems to like the product, too, for what that's worth.. Thanks anyways for the great review. Sound quality is always a bit subjective, especially for non-experts who have no other headphones to compare with, so that explains some of the more negative responses here, I guess ;-)

    I just got these yesterday, and wow they feel great! It does feel roomy, and by that I mean my ears have plenty of space. I felt that the NC on the QC20 were better. I do wear glasses, but I also tried the NC without them and I do think the QC20 are better at that. I defintely prefer the headphones over the earbuds because its 1 wire, so they don't rub and screech in my ear. Feels louder and finally can feel some bass (tho not as much as I'd like -- I like the impact you find on beats). I like these a lot! I bought them from Target at 30% repackaged, or you can get them on eBay new for about 10% off easy.

    You are criticizing their sound based on what? Not enough bass? What music were you listening to in your test? That's the thing Ian, a balanced sound like the one people like me that produce music are after, is not a bassy, rumbling sound, it's balanced, that's the goal, it's about clarity and definition, not about punch and rumbling, Bose isn't trying to give you bass, is trying to give you clarity, an unbiased sound if you will. Of course if you listen to hip hop or edm all day long in a pair of Beats, you would feel the qc25's lack bass, but if I were to listen to everything in a pair of qc25's for a long time and then switch to a pair of beats, I'd think everything is bassy and it overlaps to the mid and high range so much that it makes things undefined. I'll give you another example, do you know what Yamaha NS 10's are? Those were the mixing monitors that were and still are in many studios, the standard to mix on, they are the truth, I bet you'd say they lack bass... Well the thing is, if it sounds good on ns10's it would sound good everywhere else pretty much, it's a conflict of interests, basically you are saying without any issue, that the headphones are not that great and the bass isn't great, but your criteria to do so, is flawed. All with love, I don't mean to offend you.

      Mau you are ranting so much I am thinking you have a hidden agenda. Please do not belittle a reviewer becuse you assume they are a base-thumping beats fan. I have several Bose products and they are all boosted at the lower frequencies so I quit buying Bose long ago. Nearly ALL reviews for the QC25 mentions amazement that the expected bass-heavy sound offered by the QC25 was missing from this model. Remember that a difference in opinion is exactly why we need a multitude of reviews to make an informed decision. I think based upon THIS review, and a few others... I will be purchasing the QC25's.

      I love bose sound signature so I know where you’re coming from. I owned beats before and the bass was to much for my kind of genre and mind this was a long time ago when the solos came out and they were still with “Monster” but it was really horrible I swore to myself I would never buy beats brand again and I ran into bose products (speakers, headphones, earbuds) and they are the perfect sound in my opinion. I even went as far as getting the grado headphones but ended up going back to bose. That’s how obsessed I am with the brand although not stylish like beats but quality is my priority and little to no sound leakage which bose is really good at. Also I’m more into the mids standing out a little than the bass or treble unlike beats who’s bass is their priority. And the grados they sound just ass good but they leak too much.

    oddly enough the mic only works on apple products because of the 4 pole jack. Typical spk/mic splitters also do not work to remedy the issue. Bose hasn't responded to my emails asking for a solution.

    The looseness in the bass is because of the lack of seal. As soon as the seal even ever so slightly breaks, the QC25's bass goes from being very tight and defined, to sloppy and distorted. Try using them again without your glasses and making sure there is a complete seal around the ear.

    • @lachlanlikesathing
      @lachlanlikesathing  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheGamingAudiophile A bad seal is certainly no help, but since changing my glasses or even not wearing them, I'm still not impressed by the bass on the QC25. It's sloppy and gummy compared to the other closed headphones I have around that price range (with the exception of the Sony MDR-1A, which also has pretty bleh lows). From the measurements of the QC25 www.innerfidelity.com/images/BoseQuietComfort25.pdf it's apparent that there is some weird ringing going on in the lows www.innerfidelity.com/images/BoseQuietComfort25.pdf vs www.innerfidelity.com/images/AudioTechnicaATHM50x.pdf or www.innerfidelity.com/images/AudioTechnicaATHMSR7.pdf The square wave response on the QC25 is really, really messy. The driver can't seem to reproduce low notes notes without oscillating severely. It's probably underdamped.

    • @TheGamingAudiophile
      @TheGamingAudiophile 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Actually those measurements points to a tight and controlled bass response. Notice the very low THD levels in the bass region coupled with a relatively good 30Hz sqaure wave response. The 300Hz ringing affects the higher frequency performance of the sound. Essentially it reduces their ability to resolve finer details and decreases their finesse. That's the ONLY fault I can find in these headphones. They simply don't resolve as good as the best in this category such as the B&W P7, Nad Viso HP50 or ATH-MSR7. However, since the QC25 renders all external noise virtually unperceptive once music is at moderate volume, it sounds more detailed than any other portable I have come across when in noisy environments. This was quoted from Tyll's written review of the QC25 when he was analyzing the measurements "Between the slight rise in the bass, good 30Hz square wave shape, and relatively low distortion in the bass, you'd think these cans do a lovely job delivering punch down low...and they do indeed."...

    • @lachlanlikesathing
      @lachlanlikesathing  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheGamingAudiophile Well, it's in the eye of the observer - but I don't really think the square wave looks that great. The 30Hz square wave doesn't sag but there's some severe bunched up ringing right at the beginning. The 300hz square wave looks absolutely awful and it would be noticeable in the mid-bass. Basically every bass transient would end up being smeared as a result of this oscillation, unlike with the MSR7 or M50x. No idea what could be happening between 30-300Hz but neither extreme looks that great. As for the THD result, I'm not absolutely sure about this, but I think Tyll's THD graph is measured off an instantaneous swept tone. It doesn't show THD or ringing after the initial impulse like a CSD waterfall graph would. www.innerfidelity.com/content/headphone-measurements-explained-total-harmonic-distortion-plus-noise-part-1 It certainly does sound detailed because of the ANC though. I still think of this headphone as my second favourite portable just because of the ANC.

    Very interesting review, well thought out. I would have liked a comparison to the previous model, because I believe you probably would have found drastic improvements. Bose sound is actually designed to be overall in nature, so it isn't meant to focus on bass as much as Beats. The issue in Beats lie in their consumeristic appeal, and focus on low-tones, but complete disregard to other types of music which differentiate from rap/ electro stuff. Bose sound products sound phenomenal for general sound, and for noise cancelling are uncomparable.

    I own a pair of the QC20i in-ears. I loved them so much that I wanted a pair like them to use at my computer. I bought the QC25s and I was very disappointed. I gave them a quick road test out and about, and walking down a relatively noisy street with trucks driving past, I literally couldn't hear my music. I also tried using them in a classroom, and I could still clearly hear everybody talking around me enough for it to be bothersome. Yes the QC25s and QC15s reduce environmental noise. Anything like swishing, hissing, whooshing are greatly reduced to an excellent standard, but compared to the QC20is, that's just not enough for me.
    I also found the sound quality to be quite mediocre, about on par with budget Sennheiser HD 202s for 30 dollars. (I'm not an audiophile, they probably have different specifications, but in terms of pure impression of quality, that's what I'd compare them to.) Again, I find the QC20is to have a richer, clearer sound.
    I don't know about the sound quality, but the noise cancellation is, I think, much better in the in-ear QC20is simply because they are going in the ear. The passive cancellation is far better because a very comprehensive seal is formed in your ear canal, to the point where there is some initial discomfort from the pressure, but you get used to this without any negative side effects. With the QC15s and QC25s, they are so lightweight that the passive cancellation, the seal around your ear really did not meet my expectations. They are extremely comfortable, but that's the trade-off. Comfort VS clamping force. Difficult to have both.
    Overall, I was so disappointed with the QC25s, I sent them back, and tried the QC15s instead, because I remembered trying them in an Apple Store and feeling greater passive cancellation. I sent the QC15s back too, because the sound quality really was horrid. Like listening to music through a plastic beaker - raspy, cheap and completely lacking in richness. Worse than the QC25s (which is a good thing) and Sennheiser's cheapest model, the HD 201s, in my opinion.
    If you want the real feeling of mind blowing noise cancellation and sound quality that at least sounds like you're getting what you paid for, and you're willing to go for in-ears instead of overs, get the QC20s or QC20is if you use Apple devices. Bose need to work on their passive noise cancellation and sound quality, because these have swung too far on the scale towards comfort, and away from quiet.
    I love my QC20is. They're an absolute dream. But for over ears, I expect more.

    Can someone with the bose QC 25 tell me if you have the same problem as me. With the noise cancelling ON, I get the this constant hissing noise in my left earcup, do you get it too? Is it supposed to be like that? As for the bass, I was playing a bass boosted song on TH-cam and the bass in the left ear cup cannot seem to handle the bass while on the right ear cup it works perfectly fine! There is no hissing noise on the right ear cup only on the left one.

I've got the Audio Technica ATH-ANC9 headphones, and I like them, but one thing I don't like is that they don't beep or flash a warning light or anything when the battery goes flat, they just turn off without much warning.
