    Good morning Chief. As long as you are talking Scopes, I feel compelled to mention this in case you have never tried it. It is the Burris Signature scope mounting rings with nylon inserts - BTW they can be used with ANY brand of scope! They are metal rings with nylon inserts (split in half) and come in .005" increments ( + & - .000" - .020") . One goes on top, one goes on bottom and they do not have to be the same values. They can also be rotated side to side for windage adjustments. The purpose of this system is to PROPERLY mount and align the scope within an inch or two of bullseye without ever moving the scope adjustment screws from dead center. Of course every scope should be "zeroed out" and set to dead center before it is even mounted. Once you've gotten the adjustment within an inch or two, THEN and only then use the scope's screw adjustments to do the fine sighting. So what does this accomplish? When Soley using a scope's screw adjustments to align a really far out of adjustment is a loss of clarity and and increased parallax. The Burris Signature system takes about a half hour to get right, but once done it will never move unless you dismount the scope. I used to buy them from Optics Planet and hope they still sell them. They are not expensive and the BIG BONUS is that your scope will NEVER get a mark, scratch or ding on it from metal scope rings. I've mounted at least a dozen or so scopes (al brands) with this method and it works like a charm. If you have never tried this - you should.

      Thank you. I am familiar with them, but I've never tried them. I might just have to give them a shot.

      @@hrfunk OK - just wanted to mention in case you hadn't. The first time using the Burris Signature system it is a little awkward but a couple of 4" line levels (the kind that is normally attached to a chalk line string) helps a lot. Of course the scope needs to be mounted and adjusted at the range, but again, a small inconvenience for the many benefits. :)

    The people at Real Avid are putting some serious thought into their products. They seem to have considered almost everything. You mentioned the laser bore sighter possibly not lining up perfectly with the bore center line. I'm surprised that they didn't design a tapered bore insert that would have done just that for all calibers. Still, it's an impressive tool that will benefit a lot of shooters and save them money on their ammunition costs. Another excellent video.

    HR,
    This is one product that I have little or no use for. In the last several years, I have mounted numerous scopes and have found that using a bore light is a is a complete waste of time and effort. ALL of the scopes that I used the bore sighter on still required readjusting when I took then to the range. I finally stopped using the bore sighter and just mounted the scope on the rifle and took it to the range. None were lined up perfectly, but they were close enough to only require one minor adjustment to be on target perfectly. So my bore sighter is gathering dust in my tool box nowadays. It wasn't a cheap bore sighter, either. But as you found out, all the fiddling and diddling you did with this product still didn't get you completely zeroed.
    Cheers,
    Zeke

      @hrfunk  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don’t think the intention was ever to completely zero the rifle. Rather, it is meant to save you time and ammo at the range by getting you “on paper.” Then you can fine tune your zero with minimal effort.

      @@hrfunk Sorry it's taken this long to get back to you. The last couple of days, I've been incredibly busy. Anyway, the last several scopes that I've mounted have been Nikon, Vortex, or Cabela's. With all of them, I have just taken them out of the factory box, unwrapped them, and bolted them on to a rifle. NONE of them have been more than an inch or two off center, and required one sight adjustment to zero them. I have a bore sighter that is now gathering dust because I haven't used it in years. I was a bit amused by the fancy (and expensive) bore sighter that didn't get the rifle sighted in any better than just bolting a scope on to a rifle. Maybe some rifles are way off and need bore sighting, but I haven't found one in over ten years. Just my two cent's worth.

      @@deadeye566 No problem. Thanks for the reply! The boresighter is probably the week point in this system. I would prefer something a little more precise. Even so, the rest of the kit seems to work pretty well.

    Good morning HR. That's a nicely set up kit for mounting scopes. The laser bore sighter could use a set of common caliber screw in studs to center it in the barrel. I used to hate the old Weaver rings with the 2 screws on one side. You had to cant the scope just right to end up level after tightening the screws. I was in a gun shop once when the owner was mounting a scope for a customer. He was sitting on a stool with the rifle laying across his lap. He never touched any of my guns.😂

    Since now, I'm getting into Long range/rifle scopes. I'll have to work on adding this kit. That way I can learn and do this myself. Save a little money from taking my rifle, and scope to my gunsmith. I may take that UTG M1A mount to my gunsmith tho have it mounted tho. Just to make sure it's a 💪 Strong and positive fit. Then install the scope mount and scope myself. I went with one of UTG offset dubble ring scope mounts. I like the fact this mount got 5 mounting location. 3 full locking bars and two hafe bars and 3 screws that tighten it to the picatinny rail. For the scope, just to get started and gather knowledge. I went with a CVLIFE 4X12X40 SFP Jackalhawk. As I progress in learning scopes, I'll move up. I do still plan on pursuing a scout scope for it, with I'm out in the woods and practicing some shooting on the move drills. Ether the burris 2-7 32mm or leupold

    Nice demonstration. It's strange what they came up with for a laser "bore sight". A stick on your barrel laser thingy is more like it. Granted, it's just to get you on paper

    • @hrfunk
      @hrfunk  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Right. That's the idea. So you're not expending ammunition just trying to get somewhere onto the target.

    How do you ensure the rifle is level if there is no flat spot on top of the barrel or receiver?

    • @hrfunk
      @hrfunk  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Assuming the mounting mechanism (rail, screw holes, etc,) are at a 90° angle to the centerline of the bore, the angled portion of the scope saddle should properly position the alignment system. I suppose the outer diameter of the scope also has to be perfectly circular.

    I struggle with leveling the reticle of scopes while maintaining proper eye relief. It’s so frustrating I put off finishing the task. Right now I have 3 rifle waiting for scopes (which I also have). It’s sad really.
