    Thank you, Dr Sam Webster, for your fantastic teaching. I am fascinated by anatomy even though I am not connected to the medical profession. I have a body, therefore I want to know about it. Your instruction is clear, fun, enthusiastic, and comprehensive-I am in awe.

    Cam you do more videos on this subject please 😊and maybe also thyroid eye , overactive thyroid as well , very interested to hear your views , and also you should be employed by nhs , they never explain things to patients ☹️🤷🏼‍♀️just tablets and sent on your way 🙄🤔, so thank you for your videos very entertaining on very serious subjects when the parts don't work properly .

      I'm afraid that I'm a simple anatomist and not the best person to explain the physiology of the thyroid hormones. Hormonal feedback loops are a cool bit of biology that I enjoy reading about though.

    My paternal great grandfather (1862-1927) had a goitre which I believe is an enlargement of the thyroid. Is this enlargement caused by the gland attempting to produce more hormones than is possible fior it due to some disease please sir?

    • @SamWebster
      @SamWebster  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As with much of biology there are multiple reasons why the thyroid gland might become enlarged, and the term "goitre" encompasses all of them. Sometimes it gets bigger when trying to make more hormone than it can because it doesn't have enough iodine, there are autoimmune and inflammatory diseases and tumours, and a pituitary tumour can produce too much thyroid stimulating hormone causing the thyroid gland to grow.

      @@SamWebster Thank you sir. I suppose I will never know the reason in that case given that he passed on 90 years ago.
