Heidelberg's work speaks to me. It is just holding a mirror up to reflect the early decay in society.

Regardless of the “art” the actual home is a beautiful Victorian building. It would really look nice if someone rehabbed it to its former glory of when it was first built.

My first impression was "This is Mortville" lol. It's Art that makes a Statement (about homelessness, urban blight etc.). I guess it's less difficult for politicians to go after one person for making such art, than it is to actually try to help the residents improve their community. Just stay in office long enough to enrich yourself, then leave the problems for someone else to handle.

Thank you for showing Detroit. I know you used to live their but it nice seeing someone who grew up their showing the bad and the positive of this city. It's on its way up from the crime, abandoned building but Detroit is making a recovery. Thanks Scott. N.A.B

For myself Tyrees' art represents the result of the auto industrys' disregard for a city that faithfully served it for decades. What this represents are the corpses of peoples livelihoods., their hopes, dreams and themselves.

Around 2015, an arsonist went through and burned most of the Heidelberg project down. I think 12 buildings in all? The arsonist or arsonists have never been caught.

I gotta say I don’t understand this as art, but it obviously got a reaction. In my opinion, there are a lot of hoarders who would qualify as artists under this criteria. On the other hand, I know nothing about art - other than what I like. Lol. Still, it’s very interesting as a piece of history. Thank you for bringing it to us.

There's a town in upstate NY called Potsdam where a guy took it upon himself to decorate the yards of properties he owns with "toilet gardens." He takes old toilets, fills them with artificial flowers and calls it "art." The city has been fighting him over it for years. There is even a documentary about this called "Potty Town."

If I lived in Detroit, I don't know how I'd feel about this???😮 Personally, we have a lady around the corner, who's yard looks similar and I get so angry....because we work so hard to keep ours nice! However, I do understand, Art! Rather, it's art or rubbish. It gets people talking! 😊

It's a kind of nightmare fueled art reaction for me. With the affordable housing crisis, it's a shame that so many beautiful old homes in Detroit are left to rot, "artfully" or not. At least this man made an effort while Detroit's officials just wring their hands.

Well, I guess they can call it what ever they want but I certainly wouldnt want it next to my house. It really does look like a rat infested shit hole. That was permanent but I would hope to think the shoe art was removed and not abandoned with 10000 pairs of nasty shoes left to rot over the next 200 years.

It's wonderful that you documented this history as it was unfolding; so often the value of something isn't fully apparent until more time has passed and hindsight adds an extra poignancy to the events/locations of the time, because they no longer exists except as recorded footage.

As a child of the 90s who has grown in and around Detroit, I almost feel like Detroit didn't even start to get a "cool" rep until Eminem. I know it was once a beautiful city with wealthy people and it absolutely has the potential to be beautiful again. I love looking at the old buildings and all the art. ❤

We visited Detroit last year near Henry Ford’s place and drove around the neighborhoods to see the beautiful old brick homes which most were falling down. So sad I know they were beautiful once upon a time and would love to see what they once were.

This was very interesting, art is very n the eye of the beholder, one of my best friends is an artist and can do some really bizarre pieces, but we love them. I’m sure this took the city by a storm maybe they needed it, certainly hasn’t helped the plight of the homeless😿💔😿

As a homeowner, I'd be in disbelief and horror that a house like that (meaning the doll house) would be nearby in my neighborhood probably bringing down housing valvues at the same time. I can the "art" in the doll house and the "retirement" home, and even the polka dot house, but to have piles of junk and call it "art" in front of houses with no rhyme or reason to it, doesn't make me appreciate it any way. However, the houses did what they were supposed to do and that was call attention to the statement the artist wanted to make.

One man's junk is another man's treasure 🤔. I don't like saying this, but the doll pieces remind me of the Black Dahlia 😳 very creepy. And some of those piles of stuff there remind me of the homeless encampments here in Los Angeles. Of course those are everywhere now. What he saw as art, other people did not see I guess

As an artist myself I can see his views, but I think it's kinda crazy to do a whole town that way.....he should have done some pieces to raise money for affordable housing. At least that's my opinion & what I would have done myself. Not sure how this would work today 🤔 .....update I see he tried to do that but politics got in the way.

  • @ArmyCop
    @ArmyCop ปีที่แล้ว +5

A whole lotta haters here. Why worry about property values when the values are so low they aren't there? The Project was designed to attract people and make them think. To attract artists to make art! The city didn't see it that way of course. During the 1980 Republican Convention in Detroit, the icy spent a boatload of money putting covers over the windows of all of the abandoned buildings on the path of the People Mover. They called it “beautification” and rather than build off of that, they left it to rot. 5 years later those “beautiful” panels were just as dilapidated and ugly as the buildings they were attached to. At least the Project made an honest effort even if it did amount to just pissing into the wind.
