He’s like a bel canto singer in that he emphasizes the vowels creating a beautiful flowy open sound. The Voice also has a gritty warmth- like that of a great flamenco singer.
@@donnasharpe3451 i din't know who sam cooke was. i pulled up a song of his on youtube. yeah, there is a lot similarities in their voices. pretty eerie. steve perry is old enough to have listened to him sing and i'm sure that he has.
His voice just grabs a hold of you. Saw him live with Journey and solo. Never ever heard him sing out of tune of a crack in his voice. Pure perfection every time.
Its funny how each generation finds Journey and Steve Perry...and never feel like it's outdated. The music is timeless. My dad loved Journey...then I grew up on it. And all 3 of my sons (23 years, 19 years, and 16 years) who are all musicians love Journey and turn their friends on to the music. Lol. And my goddaughter is named Journey because her mom loves them too.
Steve Perry singing love songs such as Foolish heart etc.,and I'm a 72 year old man, the tears just fall from my eyes .I truly get emotional .I used to have their vinyl records ,but have since lost them through moving, and time. Great show Adogg. Keep em coming
Anything by Steve Perry is amazing…. Missing You is a beautiful song. But I think Mother Father is one you need to do soooon.. love that you are loving Steve Perry and Journey
He has a friend who treated cancer patients. Steve was looking through their portfolios and fell instantly in love with a woman's picture. They met and were able to spend some time together before she passed away. But she had him make a promise that he wouldn't go back to the isolation he was in and get back into music. Hes kept his promise too.
His voice is beautiful and so unique. His speaking voice sounds just like his singing voice. Can you imagine 3 shows a day at times and every night for 6-7 nights in a row. They would tour 7-9 months at a time, What that would do to your voice! 120 shows in 5-6 months before a day or week off.
I love love love Steve Perry. Man, the memories these songs bring back. Have you listened to Lay It Down from their Escape album? Talk about vocal range. My gosh that song gives me goosebumps and makes me so happy. The band and Steve’s vocals kill it!
He doesn’t just have a gorgeous voice, he gets into the character of the songs and tells a story. Missing You and You Better Wait from his second album is amazing too.
Steve Perry has been and always will be my number one all-time favorite male singer! I have a hard time recognizing the new Journey they’re just to me in my opinion not journey without Steve Perry but hey Steve Perry is the G.O.A.T.!!
An interesting little tid bit about the recording of this song/video. This video was the filming of the actual recording of the studio version. Steve walked out, sang, and then walked back off. Presto!! The studio version was made. Steve has such flawless talent. There is a version out there that, when Steve walked off, the members of Journey waiting for him back stage to go celebrate New Year's together.
"Oh Sherrie" has to be next.. that was maybe his biggest solo hit. And for me it's the song that defines 1984. I was 6.. and whenever I hear it, it takes me right back there.
This came out when I was in high school and it quickly became a favorite of mine. This is Steve when he was solo and Journey had broke up. Another great one from his solo career is “Oh Sherry.”
Journey never broke up. They were between albums when he did this. Neal went off and a couple of solo albums at the same time. (Beyond The Thunder is a must have for any Neal Schon fan. Electric World is a double CD. He has several others, but those are my favorites. Great stuff!)
Your cute, love that you found appreciation for the man, the legend, The voice! He is amazing always has been ,now in his 70s still singing, still amazing 👏 always heartfelt songs you should hear his latest album Traces from 2018. He's still got it! ❤
Adogg: So happy you reviewed this song. Most people started out as Journey fans and then focused on Steve Perry because he was the lead singer. In my teens and college years, I was more into Motown and R&B. In 1984, I went on a date and the guy I was with played this song on the jukebox. I asked him, "Who is this?" After that I was hooked on the voice and then I saw the video in 1985, USA for Africa where Steve had a few solos lines and I finally put the face to the beautiful voice and have been a huge fan ever since. I only listen to the old Journey with Steve Perry and...of course...all of Steve's solo music. Please keep bringing Steve Perry's musical magic to a new generation of fans...like you!
Omg. You just remind me so of myself 7 years ago when I got addicted to his voice and music. 😁😁😁 These are Steves Solo Albums: 1. Street Talk 2. For the love of strange medicine 3. Traces Go on with your Steve Perry Journey. You will be amazed what else is waiting for you 😉❤
Your reactions to Steve Perry and Journey make me smile! You do a great job! No one has a voice like Steve Perry's! You should do Mother Father, 1981 live in Houston! This is as close to brilliance as it gets!
Saw Journey 4 times growing up in Miami in the 70's and 80's... STEVE PERRY WAS ALWAYS MINDBLOWING..... HAVE YOU HEARD FREEDIE MERCURY THE LEAD VOCALIST FOR QUEEN...? CHECK OUT MONTREAL 1981... A LIVE PERFORMANCE ... STILL GIVES ME THE CHILLS...IT'S THAT STUNNING. ...NOT EVEN LIVE AID...
Please listen to the live version of "Mother, Father" and "Don't Stop Believin,'" during the concert in Houston, Texas, in 1981. You'll find it hard to believe that Steve is singing live!
This is my favorite of his solo songs but it really helps when you write your own songs you know your voice you know the nails you can hit you know how to write for yourself to sing and when he writes with journey Neil Shon the guitar player said he usually writes the music with Thomas Cain and Steve writes most of the lyrics. I love that you love Steve
I just love Steve Perry and am so glad that you are doing reactions to his work! Other terrific solo songs you could check out, "If Only For a Moment Girl" and "I Stand Alone".
In case you didn't know Steve Perry's biggest influence as a vocalist happens to also be one of the greatest singers......SAM COOKE! You can hear how much on pretty much every song Steve's sings. Steve and Sam....2 of the best ever!!!!
It saddens me whenever I see great vocal frontmen either leave or get kicked out of the band for ego - tripping band members. It is the fans who pay the price and the music world. When the band gets a new frontman to replace the old one the band never sounds the same, just a cheap imitation of their former glory. Steve Perry is in a lane of his own. There is only ONE Steve Perry.
Steve wasnt fired, he quit. They worked him like a dog, blew out his voice, wouldn't give him time to recover.. or get hip surgery in 96.. that was the final straw for him. The new guy is fine though... hes keeping the band alive. Yeah. Its not the same. But it's as close as you're gonna get. Steve is doing his own thing now, and is perfectly happy.
I think we will be hearing more from Steve. He promised his wife who passed away from cancer that he would rejoin the world of music. She told him he had deprived to world of his voice long enough!
Steve fractured his hip while hiking in Hawaii. He could not tour with the band when they were ready to get back on the road. The other guys all voted for him to have hip surgery, and he wasn't sure about it. But the rest of the people working for Journey all had bills to pay and families to support. Neal and the guys didn't want to shut the band down, so they got another lead singer. Not the first band to do that. I'd say they are all doing fine now, so it's all good.
Hypnotizing-yes!! I’ve heard him in interviews saying in his early years he was influenced by Sam Cooke’s singing & think you can def see the influence. ❤
It's not just the notes he hits, the phrasing and pronunciation of each syllable is done in such a stylish way. He's simply amazing!
You can hear the Sam Cooke influence in his voice.
He’s like a bel canto singer in that he emphasizes the vowels creating a beautiful flowy open sound. The Voice also has a gritty warmth- like that of a great flamenco singer.

The best Malé voice ever no doubt about MR STEVE PERRY

Steve Perry has a one of a kind voice. He takes you in then hypnotizes you.

You feel Steve Perry's voice deep in your heart and soul.
Yep❤
He often seems like he knows or thinks about relationships often. Also he sings with so much feelings and emotions ❤
Steve Perry in a class all his own
Steve Perry IS THE VOICE of my generation and frankly no one has come close since!
Steve is one of my top 5 voices. Steve's the Goat...❤
He has a friend who treated cancer patients. Steve was looking through their portfolios and fell instantly in love with a woman's picture. They met and were able to spend some time together before she passed away. But she had him make a promise that he wouldn't go back to the isolation he was in and get back into music. In the video Steve walks on...sings...walks off...nailed it...perfect talent.
Steve’s voice captures my soul and melts my heart.

I still love this song so much. ❤️
I love Steve Perry. This is my fav. I can’t just listen to it once.
Steve Perry is a master vocalist. I could listen to him all day.

Everything you said about Steve Perry.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ He is perfection!
I was 17 when I saw them in concert in 1983..... amazing concert. Steve was one of a kind.
Just grabs your heart and soul…..songs are amazing but it’s his voice that reaches our hearts/souls. What a gift to us

STEVE PERRY = DA GOAT.
One of my fav vids of the era. So simple. One continuous shot.

Yep! He was legendary for this song and video bc it was done in ONE TAKE! That is never done!
Such an amazing man and voice. Truly professional in everything he did. Never heard anything bad about him.
"Oh Sherrie" has to be next.. that was maybe his biggest solo hit. And for me it's the song that defines 1984. I was 6.. and whenever I hear it, it takes me right back there.
Oh yea. Steve Perry aka The Voice is hands down the goat for me
That's why he was called "The Voice" Saw Journey 3 times. All the 3 times they were unbelievable.
Me too!!!!!
All the ballads Steve Perry sings, either makes me sob, or my throat constricts..... hard!! Goosebumps every time! Still after 5 decades!!! ❤
I love this song. All you need is Steve, a stool, and a microphone. 🔥🔥
Thank you so much for doing this one - I wish more reactors would. It's my favourite from Steve's solo work. Just a perfect vocal :)
