Edit: Now that I've seen the video, I've long ago waved off Chromebooks just because I've always figured it more worth it to just get a laptop with Windows. That being said, while this is expensive, there's a lot to like about the Pixelbook. Thanks for another great review!

I lucked out like hell though, and everything's fine!

So, you have a Pixel 4 XL, believe me you're gonna be pulled to other Google made products and services. For the past couple years, I've seen plenty of people in Reddit and other social media that they first bought a pixel phone then got tempted to buy a Google home, then Google WiFi, then Pixelbook and so on.

Some polls show that at least 50 percent of Note users appreciate the S-Pen. Everytime I watch a video about the S-Pen and it's capabilities, I am surprised and amazed at it's capabilities (heck even much of the comments section of those videos are amazed or are happy to have the S-Pen) that I wonder why some TH-camrs kind of dismiss it (especially when wanting higher refresh rates and crazy levels of zoom on a phone).

    • @leonellthelion

Same thoughts. Stylus pens are just natural pairs for 2-in-1s and laptops.
Although I wouldn't spend a dime on a chrome book. For me, if it ain't a mobile device like a phone or a tablet, it has to be Windows.

Been using a note 8 for 2 years now and S-pen was just an unwanted feature of this device. Its a great device no doubt, but after 2 years of usage, there’s a noticeable delay. Maybe its true that android suffers after an year of use. My battery has drained drastically thank to the fast charger. I changed the battery soon after and now I rely on normal slow chargers. I feel apple should be really appreciated. They know where android suffers

I appreciate the webcam sample. Most people don’t show it in reviews. I wish you gave a more in-depth review of the webcam and the microphone quality. Hardly anyone does that with chrome books. I don’t understand why since chrome books are aimed mainly at education. The webcam and audio quality is an important aspect of a chrome book especially during these times. With A lot more people doing online schooling it is more important now than ever to have a good quality mic and video camera. Mr mobile please include these more in future reviews. Thanks

Man, I bought one of the first Samsung Chromebooks Series 3 for about 75$, used. I *LOVED* that Chromebook. It was snappy, the battery life decent and I pretty much enjoyed everything about it. Sadly, it got PAINFULLY slow over time, and not even restoring it to factory settings helped, at all. I was really sad to have to discard it. I would gladly have another Chromebook, but for the asking price, I honestly feel you get so much more value from a 7th gen iPad with the Apple Pen and a bluetooth keyboard, and you get a much better experience.

Chromebooks were a pretty big improvement in how I worked on the go. I bought an ASUS chromebook that had a full 15.1" display, good speakers, and it lasted, no BS, 12 hours the way I worked. I'd have TH-cam open in one tab, and then use an android RDP app to connect to the servers I managed for work. I could work from basically anywhere, never worry about plugging it in for my entire work day, and for the screen size, it was super light weight.

Ok I have the Acer chromebook r11 and it can do everything that this device can do, and that is not a newly released device! It even has google voice assistant now as well! Makes no sense!

I would say if you don't already have a Pixelbook this would be a must buy. My 2 year old Pixelbook is still as good as it ever has been. I would love that 10 hour battery tho!

The biggest issue is restricting the UHD screen to the excessivly priced highest end config. The i5 is perfect...that's what my Pixelbook is. Good battery life....amazing performance.

If you want a super high end chromebook, get a 2013 or 2015 Pixel. The 2013 doesn't support android apps but they only cost about $150 on ebay. They are still insanely nice. The 2015 does support android apps and is only about $250 now. For less than half the price you can get a 2015 Pixel which has a better screen, better build quality, and a better design.

Looks very nice but too many compromises for the price. After using detachables and 2-in-1's it would be hard to go back to a standard form factor with no versatility. Also, the 16:9 aspect ratio is not my favorite. I'll keep my HP Chromebook X2 and wait for something else.

You should revisit the Pixel Slate. I've heard that it is a whole new device after all the updates it received. Granted you shouldn't have to wait a whole year for a device to perform as intended but hey that's Google for you!
Also, I was thinking of purchasing this but I wish the display was at least the same as the Pixel Slate.

Thanks Michael for your review. I wish Pixelbooks were available here in AU. I agree that the focus in this product is better than a 2-in-1 for my use case. I require GNU/Linux compatibility so this product is more appealing to me than the MS Surface Pro X.

MrM, Great review. Chromebook still needs to be under $500. The value proposition isn't there as you approach 5 benjamins no matter how much Chromebook goes its own way on design. Sad trombone sound.

On a related note, I don't recommend high-resolution monitors. Everything about my PC is worse now at 4K. Most websites don't look great. Pixellation is everywhere: 1080p-only videos, emails, logos, images on websites etc. Decent-resolution images look small. The entire internet is worse. This is with scaling enabled of course. Get 1440p if you're upgrading from 1080p. The world is not ready for 4K imo.
