I'm a 10-11 handicap. I ordered three 7 irons to try... Mavrik, Mavrik Max, and Ping G710. I preferred the way the Max and G710 launched the ball up in the air so easily so it came down to those two. I really like them both. However, I decided to keep the G710 and buy the set over the Max. I liked how the G710 looked when addressing the ball. It was definitely a slimmer look than the Max which sort of looks like a shovel. I also got about 4-5 yards more with the G710.
Tried all of these and I had similar results, was between the Ping g710 and Mavrik , but in the end I took the Mavrik it was just a touch better for my swing.
Good video, but I’m keeping my Ping G400’s - consistent, predictable distance anywhere on the face. As a 12hcp, I do use the entire face (probably more than I should). I’ve purchased Callaway (last set was Razor) and found the iron faces to have “hot spots”
James, you took the words out my mouth, from someone who’s been watching channel for a while, marks swing is looking loads better! Keep up the great work chaps! 👍🏌🏿♂️
Thought the same. Mark's swing looks so much better. He's clearing his hips well. I always thought his lower body was a bit stagnant. Not anymore. Looks good.
Doesn't matter what it looks like. Is it functional? Has his Hcp improved since being on this channel? Is he hitting lower scores? I know low single figure Hcps with awful looking swings
Love to see you guys do a mid handicap test on wedges. I just bought a Cleveland CBX 2, 54 degrees. Fills the gap I had in my bag from 100 yards. Best wedge I’ve ever hit.
I tried the sim and maverick along with the cobra sz James and cobra gave much more consistent numbers and i always felt in control of the club head with the speedzone which is why they are in my bag
Great content guys i play off 6 and at 50 yrs old need all the help i can get with distance. I gamed the new cobra forged tec for a month and just couldn't get on with them at all so had a fitting again for the cobra sz and all i can say is wow wow wow. Let me say i hit a very high ball and produce lots of spin so the speedzone fit me like a glove. All the crap about strong lofted clubs is bull yes they won't suit everyone but for me i would never go back to players irons again. Let me also say i hate blades and always have done as drop offs and off centre strikes are horrible. Technology is there to help us ageing golfers and the cobra sz will be firmly in my bag for years to come
Very informative, well done Mark and thank you for this video. The only suggestion I would make would be to ask Mark to hit the longer 4 iron off a low tee. This iron would be my go to driving iron on a windy day, on a tight fairway or when my diver isn’t working.
Wow, strong lofts, strong performance. Mark strikes a great ball, and as he said that would make the driver redundant! Those sort of distances would make both my 3 wood and driver redundant! Really good honest video guys, thanks.
Just go with the mavrik and if you need more loft get the mavrik max.. Just got a set last week. I had a set of nikes that I bought in 2010 and I knew it was time for a new set these mavriks are so easy to hit and they feel Great
Excellent work. Didn’t appreciate the massive variance in the clubs and lofts so clearly much homework needed when doing your comparisons - eggs and not eggs in some cases. Thanks
They seemed more game improvement irons. I'm a 15 handicap and I wouldn't try any of them, I'm using the AP3 irons now and I'm looking for an upgrade this year and I'm learning toward trying the T200, I210, 919 forged, Apex forged, p790, mavrik pro
Recently got fitted for irons myself. I hit the mavrik well, but they just seemed so huge to me. Even my buddy who was standing 10’ behind me thought they were big. I went with a different iron.
I know it's a long time since this video is on line. But I wanted to share my experience with you. I just went for a fitting and I'm a mid handicap golfer too. At the end, I went for a G710. I go longer and I'm more consistance with this 7 iron (29,5°) than with my current 6 iron (26°). The smash factor improved considerably thanks to the ALTA shaft and the perfect swing weight (C9).
Mizuno JPX919 are the best range of irons out there. The Tour, Forged and Hot metals combine well too if desired. I have the forged, and consistent distance is so important. You get random long shots with i500s and P790s due to low loft and hollow injected heads.
Mark give them cobra sz a go they blew me away on the course. Feel, distance control and forgivness were top draw for me and better than any players distance iron i have used.
So to clarify you hit a 8 & 6 iron in the Mavrik versus 7 & 5 irons because of loft? I’m looking to get fitted and have narrowed down between the Ping G425/710 and Mavrik. I’m a 25 handicap trying to play more. I’m leaning toward the Ping because I like the woods better.
New Subscriber! And I truly enjoyed the content! I did have a questions since I am in the market for an iron/hybrid game improvement combo set. After watching the videos, and looking up some specs on the different makes and models, I have noticed an overlap with lofts between hybrids and irons. For example, If I were to purchase the Speedzones, their 6 Iron and 5 Hybrid both have 24 degrees of loft. Does that mean both clubs will go the same distance? If so, I would buy a set from P-7, 5H, 4H, 3H; correct?
Hi guys. I REALLY enjoyed that video, exactly the choices I had to make last year when choosing my irons. I had a back op a few years ago and can't hit 60 shots unless it's over 3 hours! Intensive testing is difficult so I had to hit my new irons in a gentle session. Just a few shots was enough to give me an overview and confirm initial inclinations as to which irons worked and which didn't. Came out with the F9s last year but nearly had the JPX hot metal. Those would have been great as I hadn't thought about your redundancy point - Mizuno irons don't go out of date like the main makers tie in ranges. Anyway great vid and how is Mark still off15!!?
Went for g700 walked out with g410 with Nippon pro reg shafts as the awt shaft was too heavy hit these straight as a arrow so far so good had rogue irons before these and struggled a bit
Interesting vid I'm 13 handicap and thinking about some new irons theres such a big selection out there, for me I think it would be between a titleist iron and the mavric
All the major brand irons perform basically the same. Getting fitted for shaft type, stiffness, length, loft, lie and grip is the important part for us mid-handicap players.
The ping g710 is a super game improvement irons for high handicap players and people who need distance. It should of been the g410 or i500 or the i210 what Mark uses now.
I have recently changed from callaway apexcf16 to cobra forged tech black which are lofted 1degree more so 31 for 7iron.There shorter in length so ive lost 5yrds however more spin and distance control. I find i dont get the low spin bombs like i did with callaway. Plus swing weight gone from e1 to d3
The loft isn't the only factor in an iron. New irons have reduced the lofts, because of the lower CGs. The technology make it possible to reduce the 7 iron loft from 34 to 27 and still get the same height and flights. By reducing the lofts, you get more distance but with a shorter iron. But these aren't mid handicaps iron, they are game improvement irons. I thought mid handicap was more from 20-10
I''m a high handicap, tested out the sim max and the Mavriks, my sims were going 180-185 but i had no feel ether, the Mavrik was low 170s but i had a lot more feel... still want to try the pings.
Check out the recent vid on fixing Marks driver (might go some way into answering that). To say he’s tested all parts of the face on his lovely new Mavrik is a bit of an understatement. Fair play to Mark though, very chipper about it, I think I would still be sulking given how much drivers cost nowadays. Keep up the great work James!
Thats a big issue in any black finish club...marks and scratches are very noticeable after just a few holes. I bought a 56o Cleveland Cg wedge in black finish...and after 1st round it was looking like a very used club.
It's funny, I'm a mid handicapper plus 15 and I absolutely hate distance irons. I hate the off set. I hate how quick they can come off the face on the lower irons (9,pw). And I hate how big and bulky they are. I'm believing that mid handicap irons should not be chunky, ugly huge metal distance irons, they should be closer to playable irons, have a forged feel and let you know when you've hit it bad. If you're a mid handicapper than more than likely you wanna get lower and always being bailed out for hitting it out of the toe is not good for progression.
Had a fitting for Callaway Mavrik, was happy with the indoor results.. but ... took them out on the course and it was a huge NO... now getting fitted for Ping and Cobra ..
Great review Mark! Gotta say...you may like the feel of the 710s...but I bet youd like the scores of those mavriks! Fwiw...the mavrik color scheme is a bit tacky...
For a mid handicapper I think you should have gone with thr Mavrik Pro. Smaller head, their literature says its aimed at the mid handicapper (10-15 I think). Mavrik is a game improver and the Max a super game improver I think (I say this as i bought the Pro version just on testing, then found out they were aimed at mid handicapper and thought "oh poo"
Went for a fitting I was playing Steelhead XR set. Tried numerous clubs. The fitter said my distance with all the clubs were about the same as the Steelheads but I was much more consistent with the Mavericks...well that is what I ended up with. I really liked the degree of loft seperation in the set. I bought the 6-AW. I also have a Rogue driver, Rogue 4wd Heaven wood (fav club) and 2 Mac Daddy wedges. I realize the lofts are stronger, so today I hit a 8 iron off a tee where I was using a 7 iron with the Steelhead..beautiful flight..going, going..SPLASH..guess a 9 iron the next time. Nice clubs. A little chunky, but good for an old duffer😁
The first three shots with a club are the most telling anyway. If you have to take twenty shots in order to "get used to it", that's not how golf works. I'm not a fan of strong lofts because the shafts still need to be long enough to match the clubhead speed to the lofts. At least for me. I'd probably have mine bent weaker.
So the Mid Handicap player who plays i210s ( in theory not a mid HCP iron) is testing irons most of which look big chunky high handicap player irons. I also play i210s, very tempted to replace my 5i with the G710 with a similar loft. As for the irons: G710 really good numbers, maybe the head is a bit too long from heel to toe but very solid Cobra was way too low in the spin Sim just too inconsistent in distance and spin Mavrik ugly (the pro is OK) but I do not like a lot of off set. Too powerful, I think it is a set where the longest iron should be a 6i so you end up with 4 wedges, this feels like a set where buying after trying just one iron would be a mistake G710 & Mavrik are clearly the best of the bunch.
For a mid handicap golfer myself I always find Mark's views honest and relevant Good video
I'm a 10-11 handicap. I ordered three 7 irons to try... Mavrik, Mavrik Max, and Ping G710. I preferred the way the Max and G710 launched the ball up in the air so easily so it came down to those two. Tried all of these and I had similar results, was between the Ping g710 and Mavrik , but in the end I took the Mavrik it was just a touch better for my swing.
I'm between those two as well. I love the look of the Ping but a set is about $300 more.
I did he exact same thing. I wanted performance over looks and they haven’t met me down.
I just ordered my set of mavs Thursday. Cant wait for them to come in
Thought the same. Mark's swing looks so much better. He's clearing his hips well. I always thought his lower body was a bit stagnant. Not anymore. Looks good.

I agree. T20, vokey, glide 3, glide forged, rtx 4, etc
Sorry James.... always enjoy Mark’s reviews on clubs a bit more. This was an absolute awesome review!!!
I tried the sim and maverick along with the cobra sz James and cobra gave much more consistent numbers and i always felt in control of the club head with the speedzone which is why they are in my bag

Finally a decent review of these clubs well-known done I liked it. I have just purchased Mavrik with graphite shafts, very pleased with them.
Me too!!
Nice one Mark. Could you do a similar comparison of high handicapper forgiving irons James ? I am thinking of Wilson Staff, Cleveland etc.
I love my cleveland launchers. It's near impossible to hit a bad shot.
Thanks
excellent video. Like the format. It's a great way to show the key aspects of the different clubs.
That swing and the distance he is getting looks a lot better than a mid handicappers 👏🤨
The Pings would look great with a black shaft. I just bought a set of Callaway Apex Pros and love them. Good job Mark!!
They seemed more game improvement irons. I'm a 15 handicap and I wouldn't try any of them, I'm using the AP3 irons now and I'm looking for an upgrade this year and I'm learning toward trying the T200, I210, 919 forged, Apex forged, p790, mavrik pro

This is your best video so far
The heavier feel is probably down to swing weight. Ping irons tend to be D0 whereas Callaway are D3 I believe. So slightly harder work to swing.
I agree with Mark, it comes down to personal preference.
Mizuno JPX919 are the best range of irons out there. The Tour, Forged and Hot metals combine well too if desired. I have the forged, and consistent distance is so important. You get random long shots with i500s and P790s due to low loft and hollow injected heads.
Great to see Mark testing the new range of mid handicappers irons and striking them well
Great looking swing Mark and a great honest review 👏👏
Mark give them cobra sz a go they blew me away on the course. Feel, distance control and forgivness were top draw for me and better than any players distance iron i have used.
You can get the AMT in the Cobra or any of the others to do the same job as the Ping
very clear what clubs you should game !!
Interesting to see how Mark obviously got on so well with everything, especially the Mavrik, with the Taylormade being a HUGE outlier.
Nice review but, why didn’t we see the Mizuno hot irons? I’d really like to get Mark’s take on those.
New Subscriber! And I truly enjoyed the content!
I did have a questions since I am in the market for an iron/hybrid game improvement combo set. After watching the videos, and looking up some specs on the different makes and models, I have noticed an overlap with lofts between hybrids and irons. Hybrids and woods usually have a higher ball flight, and are easier to get in the air

going for an iron fitting next week....will try the Ping G710....Mavrik....cobra sz....thanks for a great review....cheers

Would like to see your mid handicapper strike the 2018 Callaway X Forged. And new P790
Miss some Mizunos 😕
But Great Video anyway. As usual i enjoy seeing Mark in the Videos.
Keep it up Guys ✌
What no Cleveland HB Turbo Irons
George Botsford or Cleveland uhx irons?
Nice review. Great swings today Mark.
What no Wilson's ?
The ping g710 is a super game improvement irons for high handicap players and people who need distance.
It should of been the g410 or i500 or the i210 what Mark uses now.

Very Good Test. Think all those clubs would be a nice upgrade for a Mid Handicapper who's clubs are 2-3 Years old.
Wish people would do reviews on a course where it actually matters
The loft isn't the only factor in an iron. New irons have reduced the lofts, because of the lower CGs. mark really should hit the Srixon Z585's...
Marks full swing is definitely a single figure swing ...looks smooth and effortless 👍👍👍👍
Nicely done that was a fun one to watch
Just got back from my local shop and ordered some G710s! Was thinking Mizuno or Taylormade on the way there but I legit couldn’t put the G710s down
Good video. Okay what's next. Best player's distance maybe? I would like to see mizuno, Titleist in this.
Marks swing looks great!! He will be upgrading to players irons soon.
Enis Cecunjanin He just bought i210s not that long ago!!!!!
Mark seemed to be striking the ball consistently well in this video
Wondering why Mizunos weren't included in this test. They offer mid handicap level irons.
OK. I'm going to say it. How's he a 13 hcap? Same as me, but there the similarity ends both in terms of ball striking and distance.
Good video james and mark, like the video with game improvers can you do a video on the clubs that would be classed for the better players
Just bought the cobra speedzone, had them fitted and they feel amazing!
Wheres marks mavrik video?
I like your videos but I would recommend you mic-up when you have collaboration videos with other ppl.
Interesting video pal
No Wilson D7 / D7 forged ?
Mark is so used to Ping from previous / current clubs - habits and confidence!!! Nothing feels like a Mizuno???
Very confused by the distances, I am a 6 handicap and my 8 iron carries 140 yards, do these launch monitors give silly distances?
Think there is a lot of smoke and mirrors with irons at the moment. Playing a 5 iron with 6 stamped on it just causes issues further down the bag.
So if I buy mid handicap irons, will I always be a mid handicapper?
Seem like all high handicap irons to me... Mids more i210, p790, apex, t200, stuff like that no?
What about the Titleist t300?
Wilson d7 forged?
Love these
The pings look great in Black until you play with them for a month
Thats a big issue in any black finish club...marks and scratches are very noticeable after just a few holes. I bought a 56o Cleveland Cg wedge in black finish...and after 1st round it was looking like a very used club.
The G700 irons are the same.
should club speed be the same for all irons or should it vary?
How did Mizuno get left out of that selection?
What shaft did you have in the cobra sz ??????
mavrik irons are vvvvvvvvvvery great...impressive!
Different lofts between brands doesn't matter. That's why you have a set. Only matters to people with big egos.
What is a mid handicap hcp?
8-15 ish over par mate
Mark was striping those mavriks
It's funny, I'm a mid handicapper plus 15 and I absolutely hate distance irons. I hate the off set. I hate how quick they can come off the face on the lower irons (9,pw). And I hate how big and bulky they are. Mark loves to hold a finish their, Strike a pose 🤩
There’s nothing to it 😜
Please get Mark to say Cobra correctly 🤣
Had a fitting for Callaway Mavrik, was happy with the indoor results.. but ... took them out on the course and it was a huge NO... now getting fitted for Ping and Cobra ..
Great review Mark! Gotta say...you may like the feel of the 710s...but I bet youd like the scores of those mavriks! Fwiw...the mavrik color scheme is a bit tacky...
I would go for the thinest top line
If I was you Mark I'd deff put that mavrik 4 iron in the bag just because how straight you were hitting it
Mark is such a ping fanboy! 🤣🤣. Great vid fellas. Top notch as always!
Get the Srixon Z585's in the mix... great "mid handicapper" clubs!!
Have you tested the PXG 0211?
Mark's swing looks much improved!
Mark swings the club like a 9/10 handicapper easily. Can only imagine he struggles around the greens to be off 13. Nice feedback though 👍
I was thinking the EXACT same thing.
first! Love your content James. lots of love from South Africa❤️
For a mid handicapper I think you should have gone with thr Mavrik Pro. Smaller head, their literature says its aimed at the mid handicapper (10-15 I think). Mavrik is a game improver and the Max a super game improver I think

A little chunky, but good for an old duffer😁
“Zee” where are do you think you are the United States of Yorkshire. In the UK we say “Zed”
In Canada as well.
It would have been nice to see the top line view at address, great video, just nitpicking 😁
So funny I was going right to the 710 as well
So the Mid Handicap player who plays i210s ( in theory not a mid HCP iron) is testing irons most of which look big chunky high handicap player irons.
I also play i210s, very tempted to replace my 5i with the G710 with a similar loft.
As for the irons:
G710 really good numbers, maybe the head is a bit too long from heel to toe but very solid
Cobra was way too low in the spin
Sim just too inconsistent in distance and spin
Mavrik ugly (the pro is OK) but I do not like a lot of off set. Too powerful, I think it is a set where the longest iron should be a 6i so you end up with 4 wedges, this feels like a set where buying after trying just one iron would be a mistake
G710 & Mavrik are clearly the best of the bunch.
No sport on tv for next few weeks - big up the You-Tubers!
JC Jackson - there is ‘sport’ to be had still - taking the piss out of scousers...........
All I can say is what a pair...lol, excellent job guys
