Passacaglia - Handel/Halvorsen - Hurdy gurdy cover (Gamarra alto)

Recently I came across this tune and my thought was: Wow, that's perfect for practicing my scales on the hurdy gurdy! Scales boring? Thanks to Passacaglia no more! :)

I don't see any cotton wrapped around the strings by your wheel🤔is it just me?

Hi Jade, wow, you have a good eye! Yes, I use as less cotton as possible. Just a few hairs to protect the string. And then I adjust the string pressure to barely touch it. At first a used a lot more cotton but I find that the highest notes are a bit more scratchy and 'uneven' then. Maybe it's just a personal preference, but I like the strings to be as clear as possible with a focus on stable high notes. When I play a tune with lots of low notes and bowing I personally like a bit more cotton on the string to add more warmth.

Haha good point! I don't understand the melody either. But it's a nice etude for practicing scales on the gurdy :)
