There is another one string instrument. It's called "Ek-tara" ( literally, One string). It's from Westbengal, eastern region of India. The sound produced by Ek-tara is really peaceful.
Tumbi and Ek Tara both are same. Tumbi made with Indian Pumpkin or Bel fruit and Ek Tara made with hard wood. Both have same way to play. No other difference.

I've made one over my channel.... i suspect that these metal bands on the stick are made to be positioned as frets, so you don't have to push so hard, and then this would not get out of tune so quickly. The more you push the strings, more they get out of tune.
The peg handle should be on the backside of the neck, with the tip of the peg sticking through to the front, with the string wound on on the tip of the peg and wound tight against the neck so it pulls the peg in tighter as you wind the string. It’s how violinists wind their strings to keep pegs tight, by winding the string against the wall of the peg box so it pulls the peg in tighter.
Man That is just 1 string that makes you sway those shoulders in sync with the floor beat :) That's Bhangra queen , The Baritone version is called Tumba :)

Great video 😂 I've been a subscriber for 2 years now. This video is really funny as I was talking about that song a little while ago, and had wondered what that sound/instrument was, now I know! 😁
Apparently 'easiest' is a subjective term. Regarding the Missy Elliot tune, have you considered the possibility that ONE Tumbi note was sampled, then mapped to a keyboard, drum machine or virtual instrument? That's how I'd do it... to keep it easy.
You can do a high-tech stabilization of the tuning peg: Simply add saliva to where the peg meets the neck! Or google the way violinists deal with slipping and stuck pegs
Alot of strings players use peg paste or a bit of wax to tighten up the peg so that it doesn't come loose. The wax if you use it should only be hand warm bees wax that you fold onto the peg after you had balled it then wedge it gently back into the peg hole. Had to do so with my cello and a friend's violin. Held tune fine after.
Hey there.. Good to know that u know a bit about Indian based instruments.. "Tanpura" the grandfather of bass guitars I believe... U should do a review of that ...
It's fretless for a reason. Traditional Indian music uses Microtonal temperament hence why it's "difficult to tune". It's not meant to be tuned to the western 12 note classical scale. If there are any Indian classical musicians in the comments please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, Although I don't think I am because I have a friend who is trying to create a tool to allow microtonal tuning in modern daws, and she explained this to me a while ago (the Microtonal temperament).
Tension pegs can come loose if you don't apply inward pressure while tuning the peg to a lower note. Many violins, banjos and folk instruments like the tumbi have tension pegs like these.
I'm no fan of peg tuning, but violins get by with them just fine. Some of it has to do with with winding the string so it squishes against the instrument as wound tighter. Also the wood used for the instrument neck and the pegs can make for arrange that stays tight. Search violin tuning videos.
This one is not an actual tumbi, this one's just a showpiece, authentic tumbis are really good sounding and much more reliable while tuning. I'll be uploading a video soon on my channel mentioning the differences between authentic and look alike tumbis.
Your right hand movements were totally correct, but they should have supplied a Mizrab Indian plectrum for you to use. Also, the Tumbi was a very small size, and not easy for you to hold, but you did well. Best regards. R.

Yes many punjabi music use this its one of the punjabi folk instrument

It, in fact is that precisely.
It's carved quite a niche for itself in the Punjabi folk music world.

Yes my question is, why wouldn’t he try Mundian to bach ke first. He almost had it.
This is one of the greatest instruments ever man the sound is so sick.
