The greatest ever usually boils down to 4 for most people: Pelé, Maradona, Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Then the stage just below where there’s era defining players in their own right: Cruyff, Di stéfano, R9, Beckenbauer, Púskas, Garrincha, Zidane, Dinho etc.
Edit: There are some that believe players like Zidane or Ronaldhino should be included in the GOAT category. They were awesome players, but lacked consistency and longevity respectively to be considered. They are the best of their generation but not the greatest. The player who scored an incredible goal at 5:24 into your video, in black and white, was Pele. It was a world cup final and he was 17 at the time. No player has ever played such a decisive role at such a hight level at that age. He was still equally important when Brazil won its third world championship in 1970. Then there was Johan Cruijff, who changed the way the game is played, both as a player and as a coach. His influence lastst to this day.

@@MartijnHover Messi also had way more opportunities to develop than former legends had. Starting professional training from a younger age, better training, better conditions, improvements in sports medicine, better tactical education, improvement in sports science and so on.
Who knows how good Pelé, Maradonna, Puskás, Beckenbauer, Zidanne or Cruijff would have become if they had these modern conditions. Pretty sure some of them would've been better than Messi considering they did pretty much the same and even influenced the game more under worse conditions.
It is also sad tha twe never talk about golies when we think about the best players, cause Neuer clearly revolutionized the way football is played nowadays and is the best goalkeeper in history

As I played I fell in love with the sport and the culture, and I learned that regardless of the state of towns, cities, countries, economies, etc, the rest of the world connects with football. They all come together for that love. It brings so many together and anyone can do it. Also, it's a beautiful sport. It makes sense, it's fun, non stop, and extremely skillful. I bought 2 balls and play and practice frequently. I always tell people, "Made in the USA means something until you're talking about football. I feel like this video doesn't live up to the title. For me, Leicester's story is a beautiful football story, of a 5000-1 underdog winning the big prize, against teams who had maybe 3 times their operational budget, but even that doesn't completely capture the game. What this video misses is the contributions from other areas of the pitch - Colin Hendry had a game in the season where Blackburn won the title when he must have made 20 blocks or tackles in the area and not a single foul if I recall correctly. There have been games from keepers where the other team kept knocking but couldn't find a way past (Boaz Myhill vs Tottenham). There are goals made by an amazing 70 yard pass, or ones like Jack Wilshere's goal vs Norwich where there are something like 5 one touch passes that set it up leaving the defence completely bamboozled. Football is more than just dribbling and shooting. I'm not sure a video is out there that really gets in to the parts of the pitch away from the goalscorers (which is maybe why a lot of younger fans feel to be incredibly simplistic and naive when it comes to debates about great players because they just aren't educated enough on the game as a whole)
If you do want a video of more goals, a Matt Le Tissier highlight compilation is worth a look, he was the one good player on a weaker team which meant he should have been easy to stop. He had a season where he seemed to get goal of the month, every month.

International like Maradona, Pelé, Ronaldo, Messi, Mbappé,.. than you have National Heros, in Germany these are mostly people like players who were in the National Teams and won a woldcup, like "das Wunder von Bern" and every Club has it's own heros. I'm a fan of Fortuna Düsseldorf and for me they are Toni Turek, Paul Janes, the Allofs-brothers, and some players of the last years who are people who are figures of identification top the club like Jens Langeneke, Axel Bellinghausen, Oliver Fink and Lumpi Lambertz. They are not very famous in an international point of view, but they are legends for us and stayed in the Club after they finished their time as Players in the Bundesliga Team.

You sounded like you wanted to know how often acrobatic goals similar to Rooney's overhead kick actually happen. Well, in England's top division, the Premier League, with 10 matches per gameweek, I would say there might be one or two attempts per week, but an actual goal only once every couple of months, or longer. There are, of course, also many fine volleys, solo runs, and impressive team goals most weeks. All very entertaining. ;-)

He wasn't just an insanely gifted player who scored some jaw-dropping goals, he embodied the very essence of football that is the sport of the people.
Others may point to Pelé, but although nobody can deny his value and achievements, he was more of a bureaucrat following his retirement whereas Maradona remained "of the people" to his very end.
I am pretty sure that when the big clubs of Europe tried to hijack the sport away last year solely for their own financial benefit, Maradona would had been there with the fans to stop it, if he were able-bodied still.

His World Cup record for example is pretty paltry having never scored in a World Cup knockout round game. To me, he is only as good as the midfield behind him and his numbers have been helped by playing with Xavi, Iniesta and co. Cristiano had a great career and he’s a great player but that is because of his longevity and mentality, sheer professionalism that allowed him to stay at the top for more than most athletes in sports history(all sports considered). This has nothing to do with his skills do, cause skill wise he’s very mediocre when compared to the best ever to play the game of football. 09:43 Dont ask that question, lool, there is no MJ, some might say Messi, or Maradona , but there are so many different positions and ways of laying it that...NO there is no Goat. So Messi and Maradona were/are amazing, but they would suck in goal, or as a central defender (actually I could see Maradona hussling his way as a defender, but they tend to be tall and Maradona was very short, so is Messi)
the reason I say "dont ask that question" is there are so many contenders, its not like Basket Ball were its MJ (or Le Bron if you are a crack head lool) or NFL where you can easily cite Tom Brady or whatever. I would say there are at least 10-20 players that have a "legit" GOAT claim, and then there is the recency bias, s for example, if you polled it Messi would probably come out as teh GOAT currently , but most of the people voting never saw Pele, Maradona, Zidane, prime Ronaldo (Brazillian NOT Cristiano Ronaldo) , Prime Ronaldinho, Euseibio, Garrincha, Cruyff, Puskas, Di Stefano, George Best etc etc etc so you wont get a fair measured answer
For instance I am 40 and I saw maybe half the players I have listed in their prime, Pele, Garrincha, Cruyff, Euseibio, Puskas, Di Stefano, George Best had retired by the time I was born
FTR I dont think Messi is the greatest I have seen, I think Maradona was, but even then I have to say its close and there are a few I would put in that conversation myself

For examle, Dixie Dean, played for Everton in England, who in the 1927-28 season scored 60 league goals. He was a prolific goal scorer during his whole career, but how do you compare him to Messi? Hay, I'm just glad you found the game. As a working class Englishman I feel its roots deep in my bones.

Peter schmeichel was unbelievable as a keeper, van der sar, Yashin, Buffon, courteous, Casillas,…
When Messi or Ronaldo misses 3 shots, no one bats an eye, when a keeper misses 3 saves…it’s 0-3.

there's no such thing as 'best player ever' because every position plays very differently and realistically can't be compared together, if there was ever to be a nomination for 'best player ever' then my potential candidate would be lev yashin, he remains to this day the only player in his role (goalkeeper) to win the Ballon'Dor award, and while there are plenty of attackers who have dominated the sport for decades, and could be argued have an easier chance to win this usually prestigious award, he remains the only one, personally i think Maradonna is overrated, he was a generational talent for sure, no doubt there but i don't think he was quite as good as people make him out to be, i also think that Pele and what he achieved in his career while spectacular for the time, and still a great feat even today there's been plenty of players who have arguably been as good or better during their respective careers and yet even now 65+ years later his legacy overshadows many great players that have come since.
For a lot of people it also depends on who you ask, older people will likely name some of the 'legacy' players as the best, if you ask a kid who grew up in the last 15-20 years it's based on whoever was the best on fifa, for some it could be someone completely different so it just depends heavily on who you ask and what what era they are from.

I mean it's not like Messi has the same goal scoring record as Pele already with about 5 more years to go in his career & about 100more assists than anyone ever in the history of the game. Or the fact he has the dribbling ability on par with that of a prime Maradona who was also better than Pele. Nah can't be any of those reasons at all. Seek help ,you're misguided my friend

A player most people don't mention because it happen so long ago, however he is considered one of the greatest ever. His name is Giuseppe Meazza. He won 2 World Cups for Italy in 1934,1938 His nickname was the genius, a master of technical skills, a prolific goalscorer with 537 goals, and amazing creative ability on the pitch. The guy played in the 30's & 40's & has got a stadium named after him called Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. Inter Milan's home soil.. So he's definitely one of the greatest ever.

Do you know what makes football completely different to any other sport? And it`s so significant that we barely can categorised the football as a sport.
In all other sport, you use your legs or hands to do something what they were made for by the nature. Legs used for jumping, running, squatting, etc... And hands used for throwing, catching, hitting, lifting, etc... They are not much different to each other. Fundamentally, they are pretty much the same, with different rules applies only.
Legs are not made for controlling objects, especially not so precisely as the football requires it. It goes against the nature.
Controlling, doing fine movements and precisely relocate a ball by legs: This is art!

I think most fans are generally agreed on this. I would say 5 players probably make the 'Greatest' cut; Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Maradona, Cruijff and Pele. Of course, there are also players like Puskas, Fontaine and Lev Yashin, not to mention Platini and Zico who are all worthy of a mention. Suddenly I am reminded of Zidane, Moore, Best, Eusebio and Beckenbauer. The list is so subjective and always needs to be contextualised. Great reaction btw. Kevin from England.

"is there a known best player?"
Yes. It's Pele, Cruyff, Eusebio, Maradona, Ronaldo Nazario, Ronaldinho Messi, Christiano Ronaldo.
    Everyone acknowledges Pele.
    Everyone forgot about Eusebio.
Everyone respects Cruyff as the foundation of modern football.
Everyone loves Maradona except for Englands 1986 squad.
Ronaldo Nazario has become 'the other Ronaldo that was the best' but we love his haircut.
Ronaldinho is who we all wanted to be growing up playing in the streets.
Messi is the embodiment of talent and beauty in football.
Ronaldo is the embodiment of ruthless dedication, mindset and ego in football.
    That's the goats 🐐
