Very solid approach! These are all things I've picked up on as well when studying what sort of approach Nintendo's composers take when creating music for the system menus.
Delay is possibly one of the most useful effects for things in this style. I also highly recommend checking out late artist Rei Harakami's work to find even more stuff like this. I'm fairly certain his work had some influence on a handful of Nintendo system music, especially the theme for the Nintendo Network ID Settings music.
