A small warning at 1:57. She says to click White Full Opacity from the layer mask menu, which works because her "Invert Mask" option is pre-selected. By default it is not. Checking that box should make it work.
I would like to know is there is a more simple way to use the gradient tool without have to have 2 layers. In the versions before 2.10 you would say add layer mask and you could use the gradient option and is was smoother, now you almost see like a line from were you want the foto to fade. What am I'm missing in my configuration, or that doesn't work anymore like that?

When i export the file, the fade effect wont be saved. how to save the image WITH the fade effect?
Open a new layer. Place it below the masked layer, and merge that layer into the new layer. Effect saved!

You can also right click on the layer, and below add mask is apply mask. Apply mask will flatten the layer.
