- In this video I give a full in depth tour of the 2001 BMW 740i. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this car while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I also show the engine and the details of it, start it up and see how it sounds under acceleration. A thorough tour/review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.

I owned one of these for over eight years have very fond memories. High maintenance costs, but what a car to drive especially with 286hp on tap, cruised on the motorway like a dream, well balanced and loved the sound of the growling 4.4 ltr engine. This car saved my life in a major car accident due to it's safety and solidity.
One of best looking cars ever made...million times prettier and more modern looking than later generation 7 series.

Sun Of God I agree with you on this 7 series being more pretty than later gens, but definitely not more modern looking are you nuts? Yes this car has a beautiful timeless and elegant design, but it definitely looks it’s age, even the e65/e66 gen looks up to date and way more modern than the e38. All that aside though the e38 is still king in terms of design
It's definitely a much better looking car but not more modern. The newer ones look a lot newer while the E38 looks more classic. That however is a compliment as I really think BMW lost their way after these cars. They went a whole new direction that wasn't for the better. All of their cars around this time just looked great because the design was so much more simple yet elegant. That's one of the reasons the E38 is increasing in value and the gens afterward are just losinf value.
@@mhtube01 I’ve noticed the appreciating E38 and E39 prices over the last several years. A pity I sold my E39 and began playing in E60 and E90 Land- though I expect those to go up in value soon as they are the final naturally -aspirated and hydraulic power steering models. Never had an E38 but want a couple so bad- 740i Sport and a 750il. Might take a long time to attain them. I’ll be patient.😊
I gave my dad a couple thousands and told him to go out and get me a car. He came back with this. I dont know what to expect.
CarlosWolfVillage you are in for treat. Fantastic car. take care of her and she will take care of you. Will be spending about $1500 a year for maintenance .

massari4u If that man, I've got a 95' that was beat to hell. Only thing I have to worry about is oil changes. If his pops has to do the cooling system refresh all at once then yeah, $1500, but thats it for a 100k or so...

seen this video atleast 30 times over and over again for the past 2 years. Finally bought a 2001 740i M sport in silver just like in the video. Feeling is indescribable. Long live the E38.

just purchased a silver 2000 740il with 101k miles(titanium silver with black sport trim). everything is flawless and all dealer maintenance records $3700 ....super excited........woooooot!!!!!

Always loved this generation 7 series. The conservative styling is very profound.
Looking to purchase either a 00 or 01 in a few weeks. These are the last true BMW's made in my opinion. I just can't get into the newer ones at all. Beautiful car, and I'm sure it didn't stay on the lot long at all.
The E38 and E39 BMWs are the absolute best. I like the newer BMWs but these have that classic BMW look. Beautiful car.
absolutely fantastic cars these 7-series.
A buddy of mine owns one, absolutely stunning car! It drives like a limo, super comfortable and quiet. Only to bad they drink gasoline like water, it's very expensive to run here in the Netherlands. A full tank of gas will set you back about 120 euro's, and when you take it easy you can fill it up again after about 500 km :')
FretFreak02 I would stick to the 730d or the 725tds. It's cheaper to have a diesel car if you use it daily. It's may not be a V8 but you still get a limo with an inline 6.
In 02 they changed the entire car. Better armrest and headlights were my favorite. The nav on these actually looked nice compared to the S430 and A8, XJ. But 01 was when Lexus redesigned the LS430 whose nav system I like better. Then in 04 the XJ came out with a nice touch screen. I never thought the 7 was as luxurious as the others in this class, but it's always been well rounded and balanced offering something for even the pickiest of drivers.
Man I never knew E38 had foot operated parking brake. Finally learnt something new about this time in BMW's history.
It's a shame he doesn't know it's a 740i Sport, a very special car indeed. It's more performance oriented than a plain old 740i.
Yeah I was noticing that with the upgrade M steering wheel, sport seats, 18" M-par wheels, and IIRK the suspension and rear dif is different on the sport models.
No but the 01 had the updated M62TU Vanos engine still 282 HP but bumped up the torque from 295 to 324 ;)

+Cesar Hanson well a New Civic wouldnt be a bad investment plus you can get some money back by trading it in unfortanutly with the BMW 740IL it loses value plus the costs of owning one is high
The car is in great condition, has very few options though. Only DSC and the Shade, no heated seats (front or back), no backseat adjustment, no ride adjustment, no PDC, no EDC, no double glazing, no side shades, not the 16:9 navi.
This car would be hard to sell in Germany, even in this good condition ;)

yeah! simple reasoning for that. a CVT Is basically a belt that simulates gears, therefore it optimizes itself. in most CVT equipped cars, it simulates 1 continuous gear. This allows the car to have peak power all the time, and I doesn't shift too soon (or at all)

How come the one im going to buy is also a 2001 but the steering wheel is different (uglier) and the nav is bigger which is a good thing?
I test drove one of these before, it was a BEAST! I've owned a lot of high end cars, and this one was definitely the fastest I've driven. I remember passing other cars on the freeway, just pressing the accellerator a little, and looked back and this car basically dusted everybody else off. I bypassed this one due to the high cost of maintenance and repairs. A lot of the online reviews said basically, "You'll love it, but get your wallet out".
Had a 2001 740i sport black on black. Took me to 225k miles before I had to sell it. Best car I've ever owned

I've had mine over 8 years daily driver, 80k when i got it, 168k now and I love it so much, I sometimes look for another car but can't find anything this good all round for the money. Cost of entry is low but if you want to stay to the 7 series party bring plenty of money.

One, if not the best BMW series ever made, the legendary E38.
I have one by my self, am really pleased what car can give a driver, sadly mine is not the 4.4l V8, it is only 2.8 straight since taxes and fuel economy of the V8 or V12 beasts are too huge. On the other side, I fell in love with this series back in 2004 when I first time sit in one 750iL... feeling was so good.
Car has years behind, but still looking so badass, even newer cars can hide behind this one.

wonderful car! I had a 1990 BMW 735i a few years ago and in it's hay-day it was one of top 3 sedans you could own. mine ofcourse was fully loaded and loved every luxury. The only con to owning one of these fine autos is the maintainance price tag. other than that i must say BMW is one of the best automakers out there. Great job Kyle, hope to see more BMW's

I just bought an excellent one with a Beige interior Leather and its so beautiful, it drives so nice, powerful and elegant.... it makes me feel my money's worth lol

I had one, best car I've owned so far. I had the 2001 740iL and it coasted, getting me 19mpgs or about 22mpg mixed driving confirmed by 3 different ways.

This car is beautiful, best BMW money can buy currently, it's not quite as fast as the E38 M5 but it has more room and rides softer overall.
bmw never made a e38 m5=P e38 is 7 series, you're probably thinking about the e39 m5 =)

hehe, these things are pretty cheap these days, I saw a 740ia L for sale last summer for 4000$, only fault with it was it had rust on the trunk, other than that it was tip top. Even M5s are gettin relatively '' cheap '' =)

Don't I own a 2001 sport pack it get the v12 it doesn't have banks and guide problems and mileage isn't much of a difference.

this essentially has the "sport package" which added the M styled wheels and steering wheel. i want people to know i have a "sport package" on my car. cause i remember there was a S550 at the local dealership a few years ago that had an AMG sport package. top speed was raised to 187mph instead of the normal 155 on german cars.

Regarding manual/auto shifter, this car isn't about racing or something similar, it is meant to have "Freude am fahren" - or as it would be "Joy to drive". Mine E38 2.8i has auto with semi shifting, and in the beginning I drove a lot on semi, now, I don't even think of... it is meant to be driven on auto, it is the car, it is the feeling... it is the driving. This car is for auto shifting.
I am from europe, and hate automatci transmissions, but this... I only drive it on auto...

This and the Lexus LS400 are both of my favorite luxury cars.
I think the LS400 is more reliable than this, but this does look nice, but if I had the choice, I'd go for the ls400
