  • This table is hooked up to our computer and the maps are manipulated in Photoshop. Shadows are avoided by projecting the image from below the table. The semi transparent plastic worked, but a sharper image was created with a totally transparent sheet of plastic. It was decided that more table space was needed and the map size was not effected in the final design.

    great job but if i could offer a suggestion. If you replaced the acrylic center piece with a highend acrylic clear poiece or a sheet of glass you could use the 3m vikuiti film and it would prject in HD and even 4k if you have a high end projector. look it up i use it on clear glass at my shop for window advertising! fantastic product! game on!

    Its a nice table for sure, one thing however is the screen seems a bit too small for the opening.

    beautiful. put the projector on the ceiling and a white table , projecting a larger area to play without zooming

    That looks cool but I think I would use a short throw projector - dropping the use of the mirror; there are pretty cool ones now.

    I really appreciate this video. I've been really searching for table builds and you have some great ideas. Would you mind posting some detailed info either here or in your description? Table length and width, plastic size, etc. Thanks again. Nice work. Oh, perhaps projector model? I'm not sure how "good" of a projector I need. Don't want to overpay.

    We have been using a shower curtain as the screen, but it has creases. Next attempt will by a sheet of Mylar acetate.

    that's a lot of work for a washed out blue image.

      +alzathoth Yeah, we should stop being chickens and just peel off the film. Maybe use Jamie cooley's ideas to have a proper screen :)

    go through all that effort and dont even use glass for the centre piece. seems like an obvious choice. Still a nice table

    You could just buy a hd projector and screen piece on amazon for around 150-300(If you have money theres of course always better for 1000s). Then just stream you're gaming, anime, music, movies to it off you're computer. If you are willing to pop another 150 you can get some decent surround sound speakers and smack that on to you're cpu. This is of course assuming that you have a decent computer. Anyways I use this setup right now to play tera and wow. Plus I stream vocaloid and other movies on it. Makes me feel rich. Also if you have a girlfriend or boyfriend over then you can whip out a romance/erotica, and pop out that bottle of tequila you have been saving to get you ready for some juicy forplay ;). All in all you can't really go wrong.

    You guys are missing a microwave and mini-fridge built in! Other than that nice job, seems like more of a hassle to get everything situated though.

      After the initial build. The only other maitenance is editing dungeons in Photoshop so we can reveal rooms.

    Very neat idea. After a year of use... what are your over all thoughts of it's use? would you do anything different?

    • @rankore2000
      @rankore2000  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is nothing I would really do different. The table is large and the players have to get off their lazy butts to move their miniatures. Other than that, we are still to chicken to remove the blue film that came with the plastic sheet and try other medium (like paper) as the face of the screen.

    What are you using to design the dungeon? You mention Photoshop, so i'm guessing each room is on it's own layer.

    • @rankore2000
      @rankore2000  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lasivian Leandros Yes, we either have the digital copy of the module or scan the map in. Then in Photoshop I black out the rooms on separate layers and turn them off as needed. Love to find an animation program I could incorporate so things would move on the projection. Like torch lights etc.

      Clockwork Owl Have you look at Maptool? www.rptools.net/toolbox/maptool/

    Did you solve the projector and mirror rig in the end? I'd use a ceiling mount for the projector to attach it to the underside of the table.

    • @rankore2000
      @rankore2000  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matt Burkey Good idea, although I'd have to check the price and distance for such a rig. We got lazy and left the projector on the case with wood bits to get the right angle. Problem with this set up is the occasional kick of the foot will offset the image. Your solution would take care of that.

    How thick is the transparent plastic you used?

  • @Fimontronia
    @Fimontronia 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't have projector. But I have a large 42" HD 1080p monitor. Could that be embedded into the table so that the screen can be used? And put some kind of plastic covering on the screen itself to keep it safe. I don't know anything about carpentering or crafting.

    • @rankore2000
      @rankore2000  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure how well it will work, you know the monitor so I'd just test it out a little before going all out embedding it into a table. Something I did notice through my research, Television screens (and possibly monitors) have a thin layer of glass. This makes miniatures on the screen look correct on the grid when viewed from over top, but off the grid when viewing from the side. The glass thickness displaces the miniature vs the image.

    • @Fimontronia
      @Fimontronia 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ok thanks.

    • @dougcurtis2683
      @dougcurtis2683 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Fimontronia That's the route we're going to go. I did buy a projector, and did try it, but nobody liked having the room dark. Instead, I'm working on a table to fit a 42" table (yeah, a little more money), but it should work great. We won't be using miniatures, but the tokens in the Maptool program. (Yeah, I'll miss the tokens, but..)

    What program are you using for the map?

    • @rankore2000
      @rankore2000  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just Photoshop. We turn on and off layer masks. Heard there are some programs that add animation to the maps, but haven't done any research on that yet.
