Thanks for stopping by! One other thing I want to clarify is that this will not apply to EVERY neighborhood in the city as there are some that are not as walkable or don't have the same access to public transportation. That being said, it is possible to live in the city without a car as I have been doing it for 4 years.

I lived in Chicago for over 20 years. Never had a car, never felt I needed one. I lived mostly on the north side. Occasionally, I’d need a taxi home if it was late at night. Besides owning a car in Chicago is a hassle. Finding a parking space is hell.

Great content. I'm planning to move to Chicago and the transportation is one of the reasons. I'm from a city in Brazil where everything was built for cars, not people. That's awful!

I’m really considering Chicago! I love the city & its culture & I really think it fits my vibe. Having a car is expensive & stressful. I’m from Indianapolis & the Amtrak is about $40 round trip back home & if It was ever an emergency grayhound busses run back & forth multiple times a day for $60 last minute. both about 3-4 hours. I’m really considering Chicago. Indianapolis is getting worse than Chicago & im just tired of everyone I know dying around me & a fresh start is needed!!!!!!! I’m thinking about moving for a 1-3 years. Im also wanting to travel & Chicago has a even major airport than Indy so flights will be way cheaper.

Great video Steven!! I have a few friends who live in the heart of the city and also work downtown Chicago. They also do not have a car and don’t need one. They walk maybe a block or two for groceries or take the trains. I will say for people like me- I grew up in suburbs and I work in the suburbs but live in the city. For me, I have always had a car and need a car. It just depends on family, commuting, and where you live and your lifestyle. Thanks for this video! Very cool!

New York City, San Francisco, Washington DC, and Chicago are the best United States cities for public transit

Being a single dude without a car, probably doable. Married with kids, emergency situations , taking kids to school, totally different scenarios.

I Agree, you even save more money by not getting married and having kids.

No. Very, very few Chicagoans need cars. The A+ public transportation takes you 98% of locations you desire. You can Uber or Lyft the other 2%.

You don't need one, but I like being able to get up and go anywhere whenever I want.

If someone lives in the suburbs, and works, say, in Cicero, would it be necessary to have a car? It seems like there’s a line in both of those places and that it could be feasible.
Or would it be preferable to live downtown if one didn’t want to have a car?

I get some of my best stories on public transportation. I was taking the Purple line for an interview (that I didn't get) and this guy was drinking a Natty Light out of a bag with xs on it at 11 am

Originally from Chicago and still live in Chicago. What you said, really only applies to the areas immediately south of the loop (cut off being Chinatown) and to the north side (cut off being wrigleyville area). Anywhere else in the city, it would be better to have a car. Like you said, you live in an area where you can walk to the downtown area. I really am not trying to sound mean, but that shows your privilege. It’s a very privileged statement. Maybe invite someone who doesn’t live where you live and get another perspective? A little debate series? That’s all. I am enjoying your content though.
P.s. In your last video you were in an Urban Outfitters. I know exactly where that is. I probably have passed by you and never realized it.

Great perspective I agree. There are a lot of exceptions to this rule. You do have to live in specific neighborhoods for this to really work but it is definitely possible. I mostly am speaking to the demographic that wants to know if it can be done. Owning a car in itself is a privilege as well and some people may not be able to justify it. You've definitely given me an idea to bring one of my friends on since a lot of them own cars. I appreciate that!
PS.......you might be correct about Urban Outfitters.
Thanks again for watching and for the support!
