I am a native of Indianapolis, IN. So to give credit where it's due, Indianapolis has had more per capita violent crime and murders occur in the city than Chicago in the last couple of years. And to also give Chicago credit where it's due, at least their homeless population isn't as abysmal and horrendous as Los Angeles or San Francisco or NYC
I'm semi new to Chicago (and I moved here from Florida too!) I'd LOVE a video on what to do during the winter cause you mentioned that there's stuff to do - I'd love to know what to do so I can get through this next winter!
The best thing to do for the winter here in Chicago is go back to Florida. Honestly. Winters suck. They are super long. -50 degree weather. And you can't find parking because people put furniture every where to save parking. Been living here all my life and I'm about to go to Florida in a couple weeks
Some people are not meant to live in cities. They are bothered by noise, crowds and public transportation. I'll take bars, theaters, music, museums, tons of movie houses and a dynamic restaurant and ethnic cultural scene..
Remember this is his opinion! He is from Los Angeles, Ca so he just looking up information on the internet and not basing it on his own experience! To me he’s just a hater! I’m from Chicago and everyone I know owns a car! As far as air quality Houston has much worst air quality but people are still moving there! So everyone of those reason he’s giving you can find a solution!
Chicago definitely has its problems and it’s getting extremely expensive, but I am not moving to Indiana! Oh the winters here are terrible. I have been here all my life and it gets harder every year. But my family has been here since my great grandparents came over from Italy, so where am I going 😂
ill tell you what, move to wriglyvile and never leave. but in all honesty it is the same for me my grandparents came from Deutschland to Chicago so im not leaving. this is my home. also just go on vacation if you dont like winter also.
Midewestern cities have a lot of crime because of economy - in the 1800s till 1950s these areas were a massive manufacturing hub, but outsourcing and automation got rid of a lot of those jobs. Those were high paying but didn’t require as much school training
Stay out of the South Side and you’re good to go. It’s a beautiful city, tons to do, great food, an airport that can get you anywhere in the world, and chill people. Winters are hard, so bundle up and stay inside. Chicago is expensive, but so is any major city, so that’s not a Chicago exclusive. Chicago has lots of tourists, but so does every major city. Just do your homework before you decide to move anywhere. If you have the money, have a job lined up, and have the right attitude, you can have a blast in Chicago.
The car thing is SO true! I LOOOVVEEE having my car but it's SUPER difficult to find parking AND costly. I hate the entire idea of paying for parking - in the suburbs - that just doesn't exist. So it's like - calm down Chicago. Relax. lol haha Anyway, this was awesome! I'm glad I subscribed! I'm excited to learn more about Chicago by watching your channel!
Being from Michigan, driving through Chicago a few times isn't the worst thing in the world, but its not the greatest either. Just like any other place certain times of day are much worse and some are better.
You said it feels like he likes Chicago and you'd be correct. I watch this guy and I was watching his QnA Livestream and someone asked what his favorite city besides Portland is (he lives in Portland) and he said Chicago. I asked him what his favorite pizza city is and he also said, Chicago. I agree
This guy isn’t rationally explaining his reasons. For instance yes public transportation might seem to suck in a big city but how many non-major cities in the US have amazing bus and train systems ? Plus if you’re trying to have a minimalist lifestyle that doesn’t involve cars you’re screwed living in a smaller city. You have to wait at least 30mins for the bus and can take hours to get to your destination and wait till there’s delay 😒 i now live in Tampa which made me realize how blessed I was in Chicago. I’m Moving back soon and I rather deal with those cons in a city I love with creative people, stuff to do, diversity and train than seat in the sun for at least an hour cause I don’t own a car
Zanda Williams oh yeah it’s lit there’s places with underground black artists who perform, parties i haven’t been there in years but you can go to Facebook events or instagram and type in the promontory other keywords to help you find stuff
Chicago has been losing population since I think 1920. This is a case of making a claim that is too complex to be covered by overgeneralizing. Those who go tend to be those who cannot economically sustain themselves in the city. This is a problem with a number of cities. The lower middle and poor classes aere pushed out and the rising middle classes arrive, especially with the onset of technical jobs.
The guy is talking more against cities than he is about Chicago. Fort Wayne, really? That says it all there. Move to Fort Wayne then. What he doesn't say is that large cities are creative cultural hubs and economically dynamic. They offer many possibilities and they attract those who want to be part of landscape of possibilities. But that's okay. Some would rather live in a suburb, drive three blocks to the 7-11, and watch TV endless at night.
I love the city of Chicago. It is a very inspiring and beautiful city.... at least downtown and a few other neighborhoods. I love visiting there. However, to move there is to saddle one's self to over $130,000 dollars in debt per each resident of the city and that population number continues its' decline. I believe the shortfall of revenue compared to expenses in 2019 is nearly $900,000. Unfunded liabilities are through the roof. So, if you move there then by all means, grab your money then get the hell out because the city in toto is a sinking ship with no chance of recovery. It is in worse financial shape than Detroit when it declared bankruptcy.
@Nice One Well, Nice One, first of all; I am not trying to trash Chicago. I love the city and have a visitor and student of the city for nearly thirty years. That is no reason for you to bury your head in the sand which is what you have done in this reply. For instance; your comment about the demise of Detroit being dependent on the car industry. I never said otherwise and never said Chicago's decline was due to a depency on the auto industry. Chicago has a more diverse economy to be sure but that does not change the facts and statistics. Jeez. Tell me, Mr. business man, how do account for a shortfall deficet of over three billion dollars between revenue and expenditures? How do you make up for the now over $160,000 dollars of debt pawned upon each individual Chicagoan? Hey, I live in a State with no income tax but the state sales tax is about 9.25% which is considered high yet Illinois has you paying aincome tax as well as a 10.26% sales tax on goods and that is not nearly enough to dig you out of the hole. Again, I too love Chicago as a place to visit but to move there is insane and that is a good business decision. th-cam.com/video/BB6h9R0I-aM/w-d-xo.html
I grew up on the west side in Montclair, I just graduated from Chicago public schools and I’m white. I moved to Florida 2 months ago and ever since I moved here the worry feeling feeling in my gut and stomach from the thought of another fight, ext. aside from the weird people there and all the bullshit it’s nice, don’t recommend raising a family there
Briggs has some good content! Leave the guy alone, his jokes aren’t THAT bad.. 🤣 jk I’m from San Jose, CA and homes are around $1 million & apartments go for $2,200+ a month. Insanity.
Winters aren't as bad as advertised IF you have a working car. You're only going to be in the brutal cold from the house to the car and from the car to work/school or whatever you're going.
I lived in Minneapolis for 20 years, believe me the weather's not that bad in Chicago ...
Oh ya by comparison you are right!

If anybody thinks Chicago is expensive they should move to south florida. Pay 2000 a month for a fucking shack and tell me about expensive.
...or NYC, DC, California....
Heard south Florida is so expensive that the Gators are homeless.
I keep hearing that tons of people that leave Chicago keep coming back as they find things were better here than else where

Once Lightfoot sells the rights to Midway and Soldiers Field we're gonna be Detroit 2.0.
FYI: Chicago has a wind tunnel under the EL in between some of the skyscrapers.
