Having watched this series backwards from number 9. I'm catching up. Nice looking boat. Looking forward to the build.

Geday, I'm an old Navy man and seeing people restore and love these historic boats makes my heart sing.
Good on you mate, I am following you on the journey.
What part of Oz are you in?

I have the boat at work, 40kms north of Sydney. I hope I can keep you watching. I started this series just to have a record of what is done and I'm finding the TH-cam channel as much fun as the boat revival.

To be honest, i was quite surprised hearing about the replacement engine, the bmw d35. Although its a good engine (base is Hatz i believe) bmw stopped making marine diesels for quite some time so gettin specific spare parts can be quite a challenge.

I managed to get new engine mounts and a few gaskets, so hopefully this engine will do the job.

That boat is just crying out for a 2LW or a 3LW Gardner engine as the powerplant.

Any idea what powerplant was fitted originally?

No. The Chinese diesel was fitted some time ago, probably during the 80's, but I don't think it ever drove the boat in the water. It probably had a small petrol engine originally but I can't find anyone who knows for sure.

Simplex Marine made a very torquey 10-12hp twin cylinder petrol engine with F-N-R which would have been suited to that boat. They were pretty popular post-war up and down the east coast. I've got one in my 20ft cruiser. 300kgs of no-nonsense cast iron! Fwi, all Simplexes were LH spin, same as your prop.
Edit: However, on second thoughts, by the looks of your prop, it's about a 16" x 14" pitch. And, at 32ft, with a hull speed of 7.5 knots, 10-12hp would be doubtful power enough for a sea vessel. Just seen there was a Simplex 15/20hp from 1937 onwards. Never seen one though.

Just put the propeller on backwards?? See, problem solving... (I'm just joking)
