Its nice to see the natural wood colour on your hives, mine are the same, I have started using a wipe on water based polyester coating, it is so easy to get it onto the wood and a coat dries really quickly.
Just a comment today those colony needs to do some major growth if you are planning on honey harvest this season also that first colony needed a super a long time ago because they looked like they were getting honey bound an that will for sure make them swarm with no room to lay. I was having to pull frames of pollen this year just get it out . I was getting four full frames of pollen an they were getting pollen bound an no were for her to lay. Good luck .
I agree they did need supers and to be honest I wasn't expecting them to be that far along in early March. Fortunately for me bees have been known to move honey around the hive and I placed supers after filming so they all have ample space now. I never even considered pulling full frames to make room. I will be doing that in the future. Thank you.
Every week - like clockwork. Great video! I was worried a few weeks ago when you inadvertently used the name of the channel I'd been planning since last December. And now... finally posted my first video. No Beetle Sucker 5001 (yet)... but you KNOW who inspired that. I really enjoy your videos with visiting beekeepers. I only wish it were warm enough here in Indianapolis to actually go into the hives... our rule of thumb is "not until the overnight temperatures are above 50-degrees. But in GA... Go man! Keep inspiring new beekeepers, and keep working those Happy Little Bees!
Looking forward to getting into my hives. I released my 3 package queens about 4 days ago. We've had rain so I'm hoping I see eggs next inspection. I loved the scene with you running from the Yard. Once I just wanted to check something - you know a quick peek. I lived up the hive cover (at 5 pm - wrong time!) and wham I got stung in 2 seconds. I dropped the lid and ran like a little girl. Came back properly suited and closed them up like nothing ever happened.
That clip was from years ago when I didn't know that slow was fast. I was anxious and entered the hives with ultimate confidence and forgot to smoke the bees. You van actually see the bees sticking to my shirt.
I’m sorry but I was cooking dinner for the family watching your video and I did start laughing at the sting o meter. I definitely noticed the outfit change afterwards.
I bought Hive Alive patties this year based on your recommendation. They seem to like them and easy to use. A little harder to get them used in my Apimaye hives. Next year I'm buying the new 1 piece feeders they came up with. That seems like it will work better for patty feeding.
Hip-hip....Horaaay! Just remember, be slow and steady, don't forget to smoke them before entering. Also, accept the fact that you will be stung a few times this season until you figure it out. It only hurts for a minute or two :-)
I have responded to this comment 4 times already and TH-cam keeps giving it to me as not responded too. If all of the replies are coming through I apologize in advance for the duplicate responses.
Almost every queen need marked? I found one that overwintered with a new queen, some needed fresh paint.. Hive Alive fondant seemed to have better growth than plain sugar brick in one colony as a trial run.
@@BugFarmerBees Try Competitive Advantage MPD-15 pens sold at BetterBee and Cayman was talking about it in the past. I need one too because invisible ink is a waste of time
Once bees swarm it is difficult to get them to return to their original hive. If you take a frame of brood from another hive and add it to their new hive chances are pretty good they will stay in their new location provided you have captured the queen.
Ha! That was a wild day. Here is a short stand-alone clip: th-cam.com/video/gjpKUaCKMcc/w-d-xo.html and here is the entire inspection so you can see it in context: th-cam.com/video/3AQw6UcSHik/w-d-xo.html
No, that was a statement showing that slow is fast..... and it was an excuse to include the stings and the sting-o-meter for those who haven't seen it. :-)
Still love that sting o meter!
I will breaqk it out this year if I get stung. Last year I didn't get too many stings other than from Hive #5 at the farm.
The Sting-o-meter is showing the year as 2020! :)
Tat was a clip from a 2020 video. I was showing what happens if you are not calm and slow. Slow is fast and fast is getting stung :-)
@BugFarmerBees oh. Ignore me. I was watching it Saturday morning here in Oz and clearly the caffeine had not kicked in yet!
Ha I enjoyed your video, you have a real beautiful place. Have a blessed week
Thank you very much. I hope to see you in future comments. Take care.

I have been using McClowski Spar varnish for sailboats for years. It holds up well.

Ahhh.... Don't Worry-BeeHappy. There is always room for another TH-cam Beekeeper who like Happy Bees :-)
Your post has helped me to better understand what to look for when inspecting my own hives
I am happy to hear that. I learn something new each time I inspect my hives. We can learn together. :-)

I just sprayed them down with water and covered them with plastice wrap for an hour and they were re-hydrated.
3 weeks until I get my first 2 packages!

Two cups (empty) at 14:43 (immediately prior to the first hive beetle).

My markers keep getting cleaned off the queens. I have marked all of the queens in my bee yards twice. I am looking for different markers.

Thanks for the video. What did you finish your hives with they look great.
Here you go. a.co/d/9wML26f
Where did you get your queen cage thing you were using to mark queens with? I want one! lol good video and love the sting-o-meter lol
I got it from better bee. Here is a link: www.betterbee.com/marking-tools-and-queen-cages/qmt2.asp
I moved the hive but the bees are still here. How can I get them to go back to their hive?

What is the advantage of a deep box like you use?

Hive Alive is great 👍 Great products
...and as I have found out, they stand behind their products too.
I have not laughed so hard in a long time....the Sting-o-Meter. Sry ya got stung man....but dang that was funny!

Why dont you have supers on
I have added them since this video was filmed. Actually, I came out after the video and added them.
@@BugFarmerBees Should have been an addendum at the end.
Biologically speaking... bees are NOT bugs! Actually they're probably offended by that moniker... no wonder you're getting stung!
You're right. My bees probably hate me.
