Made a comment similar to this before seeing yours, but I feel the exact same way. Talk about knowledge of the game. I don’t know much about football, but I know plenty about coaching and Gabe is more than capable of taking on that task. Bringing in someone who’s NFL experienced and a bit younger to be more relatable to some of the guys, might pay dividends. Who knows? Either way, the knowledge coming from these two is impressive. They both could make an impact if they chose to take on a challenge like that.
You guys' defense is good. Really good. Tennessee is a really well-rounded team. You guys get the QB position fixed, and that offensive line you will be a force in the future. I agree with the bad play calling as well. I actually thought Tennessee would blow you out, but you fought hard against a national championship contender. Keep your heads up

Should we hire a QB(future OC) Coach asap? Get him in there to at least develop the QBs now and get to know the team to setup for a real OC next season? Because I think we need a hungry OC/QB coach
Thank you GABE for keeping it REAL. Honestly during the Tennessee game punting on first down would have gained yards. 🤷🏻♂️ Teddy I disagree. The offense is sooooo bad the coaches are too blame. You literally could do as well getting someone off the street. It starts at the coaches. They did not do their jobs.
Super proud of your honesty. We were massively out coached on offense. How can you NOT know your deficiencies at this point, including at QB? Head scratching. BV needs a quick hook at the end of the season if there isn’t massive improvement. So sad to watch our defense work so hard. Now the coaches didn’t throw a stupid interception or fumble or throw a backwards pass. And I’m glad they went with Hawkins. You need a foot for a TD and you line the qb up in the shotgun? SMH. Very disappointing. Thanks again for calling it like you see it.
We're turning our D into a top national championship caliber D It's moronic to say BV needs the hook bcz the offensive staff can't get it together w a busted up MASH unit on the field
Glad everyone else is seeing it now, we’re not bad fans, we just know subpar play when we see it and aren’t afraid to call them out on it. Gabe, you are spot on brother.
OU ranks 126th in yards per play (4.45) - last among Power 4 teams. Only teams with fewer yards per play: Old Dominion, Louisiana-Monroe, Akron, Kennesaw State, Wyoming, New Mexico State, Air Force, Kent State.
I know a lot of people want Hawkins becaus of his mobility, but I'm sold becaue he looks better passing the ball. Not mechanically, but just decision and timing. There's a lot of plays that looks like Arnold just has the wrong read. I don't know the palybook, but lots of teams run Q Power with that toss, so I wouldn't be surprised if the fumble was a missed read and then loosing the ball in the pile.
He was benched because he threw a backward (bad call) pass on a running only play. BV said it in the postfame presser. There was no option to pass on that play. It was run all the way. At that point, he has to be pulled. Because he isn't even running called plays correctly.
Defense looked elite! Offense looked like a bad high school team. Love the pod. The overall football IQ on here is second to none and that’s why I look forward to listening every single week. Gabe for OC??? Think about it! Just sayin. lol
The entire starting 5 WR are all injured. The best RB, injured. Still no Kalib Hicks the entire season. O line playing blind. And now we have a true freshman QB as our only hope going into the hardest stretch in CB other than Floridas schedule… unreal. Seats are getting warmer…
I have no idea why hicks hasn’t seen the field? It can’t be any worse than what’s been put out there right? I also don’t understand why any young cats aren’t getting any playing time?! Head scratching shit!
If the defense can keep this up and the offense can be just decent with Hawkins, we can be a 9-3 team. We now have a great sense of what the SEC is like facing a team that definitely could win it, and we held them to a 10 point game with almost zero help from the offense. If Hawkins started this game, do we win? I dont know but i believe we would of taken advantage of those short fields. All in all just keep improving. Texas, Old Miss and Alabama are the only 3 opponents left that are in the Tennessee realm. The defense should keep us in those games, Hawkins i think could help us win one or two of them.
OU hasn't been able to run the ball in 3 years. There hasn't been an All Big 12 offensive lineman in 4 years since Creed Humphrey. No other lineman since 2018! I understand some have gone to the pros, but Guyton didn't dominate last year. The transfers are all busts other than Turkin, and he is average at best! I think we need a complete overhaul of the offensive staff. I hate to say it, but go up to Tulsa and hire back Kevin Wilson. I don't know who to have as a QB coach. Wilson has been a winner at OU and Ohio State. Murray seems to be a great recruiter, but they don't seem to understand how or who to block! Tight ends can't block on the edge. Receivers are trash at blocking. I don't give a flying F*** about the injuries. These players are getting paid to play! They should embrace the chance to see what they can do!
Always enjoy the objectivity this pod provides. Get healthy and figure the offensive line out, looking forward to another battle in the cotton bowl come October. 🤘🏼
We need to convert Jacobe Johnson to wide receiver and start a Leach Air-Raid offense with Hawkins who shows shades of Kyler Murray's mobility and Baker Mayfield's moxie. Thank God we have Auburn this week where Hawkins will get the needed reps and be ready for the Red River Shootout!
I've been going to OU games off and on since 1967, donor now and season ticket owner. Watched many games and listened to many announcers and I must say "you guys are awesome". Never played football since I attended a tiny school. I love your technical breakdown. It's also very good proof that to be above and beyond on the playing field you must bring a good brain. Both of your are very intelligent and it shows. Gabe I believe you when it comes to the schemes. I'm afraid a coaching change may have to happen before things change in that regard. I want Seth to succeed. Hell I had classes with mother at OU in the fall of 1972. Teddy I listen to you on the Ref and I really appreciate your knowledge and how you communicate. One more thing....that damn Varsity App is screwed up this year. I quit watching the video of Saturday's broadcast and listened to you guys. Thanks so much for sharing with us. Gary from Grady County.
On the broadcast, the announcers were saying Tatum fell on the ball, had the wind knocked out of him, and then they call his number to run again. Poor guy. That was a brutal 2 plays for him.
Super tough game to stomach from an offensive perspective. The defense gives us a reason to be hopeful going forward. Imagine if we would have had this level of defense during the Riley years, we would have won two or more National Championships. Even though it was a tough loss to take, it somehow helps to have Gabe and Teddy break it down for us and get their expert perspective. All we can say to the Vols at this point is: Sooner or Later We’ll Get Ya!
@@MsReadyrocc Yes… up 22-3 in norman 3rd qtr with a fr Qb why throw downfield and risk t/o. Vols are a rush team first and have 4/5 backs that get carries
We're in the SEC. We have to decide if we are truly elite or we're not. What do I mean? How can you have 17 wide receivers, not counting the 6 TE's. We have 20 OL's, 10 RB's and 5 QB's. We play maybe 40 to 50% of our players Elite teams in the SEC start with good players, but any given Saturday it could be a different O-Line, different backs and different receiver sets that start. We are told by the coaches it's next man up, but down deep we're not recruiting or picking players like it's next man up. We're not practicing what we preach. In the SEC you are going to get injuries, that's part of the league. Though most of our injuries came before game 1 with an SEC team. We've had 3 years to prepare. Our roster needs to have bigger NFL caliber players to play in this league. We have to get away from the Big 12 mindset that speed will get us to the playoff. That may be true for the Big 12, but SEC requires the big guys and lots of them. Big framed wide receivers like Michael Irving, Dez Bryant are what we need. They still had speed too. We need 300 lb OL's throughout that can block, pull fast and are coachable to play anywhere on the O-Line. We need more elite running backs. SEC play is about rotating big players and staying fresh. Practically the whole damn team plays regardless of who starts. Rotate, rotate, rotate. That goes for the D as well. When we recruit, we have to think big. 5 star recruits have showed me nothing. I'd rather have 3 stars that can be developed into great players rather than 5 stars that haved proved nothing at the CFB level. NIL would be cheaper too. You can't be an elite team if only 20 to 30% of your team is elite. Oklahoma better figure things out or we will lose a decade of being mediocre in the SEC.
"Bad coaching..no other way to say it Ted" Ikard. Coaches get one more game (Auburn) to get it right or heads have to roll. Accountability. I don't think the offense is being held accountable BV. Hawkins was some accountability I give that to them. Tell me I am wrong??
Jackson Arnold is Panickan Skywalker at this point. He’s a one read quarterback who instantly reacts like a deer in the headlights. Have to make a change there. That throw into triple coverage sealed it for me as he had time to make a better decision.
Agree on the INT- from the TV angle, looked like a definite completion the way he threw it, and time he had to throw, which was rare. Then straight into double coverage, completion to the wrong team.
With all the craziness that's going on I just want to say that I appreciate all the fans showing their support like they did you guys really showed out in front of a national TV audience. Boomer..
Hawkins does have that quick release going. That ball he threw to the sideline was friggin bullet, man! Either catch it or have it surgically removed...😂😂😂
Thank you for being Sooners and thank you for your candid comments. The word that came to me watching the offense was incompetence. Almost complete incompetence.
Man...if we didn't turn it over like we did, it would be 10-3 at halftime. The turnovers are what killed us and let Tennessee play with a relaxed mindset--game is won dont allow any big plays.
This is what I love. These guys tell it like it is. The guys that are playing on our offensive line have to be decent athletes. Find their strength and develop plays that play to those strengths.
Please Gabe, somehow, add OU OC-Consultant to your long list of job titles. You've probably got the pull to actually make it happen. So spot on with every criticism of the offensive play calling.
Just checked the roster. We have 20 OL’s on there. One of them is 279, three are in the 290 range and 16 are 300+. Out of all that we can’t find a decent OL. Besides showing up on time at the dining table three times a day, what are they doing? And, it’s time for Bedenbaugh to level up and deliver the goods.

If gabe was on the staff our team wouldn’t win a game
I think they don’t think they’d like coaching
Ur mom wouldnt win a game@@marruz0
You guys' defense is good. Really good. Tennessee is a really well-rounded team. You guys get the QB position fixed, and that offensive line you will be a force in the future. I agree with the bad play calling as well. I actually thought Tennessee would blow you out, but you fought hard against a national championship contender. Keep your heads up
So glad Gabe ain’t holding back! This is why this is the best Oklahoma podcast period. These two know what the F is going on
Haven’t seen his this upset in awhile if ever.
Gabe is a yes man for the program and all he does is keep it pc and pretend OU is doing great.
Lehman blowing smoke up the OU defense ass. I don’t know how you can say you whipped a team when they ran the ball for 150 yards and averaged 5 yards a carry.
@@SamuelMiller-qf7qi great observations. Teddy is off base.
@@SamuelMiller-qf7qi 52 carries for 151 yards is 2.9 yards a carry.
Was there yesterday at the game. Was awesome environment and the fans were amazing! Hope the rest of vol fans were cool! Appreciate the hospitality and good luck to you guys
Hope you enjoyed your trip! Congrats on the win.
Met several nice Vols fan at the game from all over (Tulsa, Dallas, Tennessee). Excellent guests and a good hang!
There was a group of rowdy youngsters yelling and talking at anyone around them as we were walking out after the game, which is fine. Part of the fun. But they chose to yell at an older guy wearing a “Stoops” shirt. Had to remind them of his record against Tennessee. 😊 LF to the Knoxville visit next year!
@@BlakeLennonMusic yeah I can’t wait! I was there in 15 when baker absolutely turned it up in the 2nd half and shattered my heart. y’all’s fans traveled so well and were nice then and nice on Saturday. I’ve been to Athens (got barked at whole game) and Gainesville where urine was thrown on me lmao. Hopefully yall don’t experience that.
@@OK_Breakdown absolutely besides the weather being so hot I appreciated the environment. Light show was fantastic. We all can agree it’s HORNS DOWN and TN is the real UT. Appreciate you guys, will continue to watch yalls content because it’s very informative and authentic.
@@MrTvolsforlife Yikes! 😮😢 My older brother had batteries thrown their way from Colorado fans (student section) at an OU game in Boulder once. Urine or batteries? Urine or batteries? Tough call. It can get wild out there.
A roommate of mine at OU in the 2000s attended UGA prior to his time in Norman and he liked to bark a bit. Didn’t really have much to bark about at the time, but we had fun with it.
The most disrespectful crew of any opponent that I’ve experienced were LSU fans in New Orleans for the 2003 championship. There were a couple nice Tiger fans, but my goodness…the vast majority were the worst.
I love your honesty Ikard !!!!! Don’t get fired !!!
I hope he won't get fired for simply telling the truth. There's other things must be going on with this program that we don't know all about but it's not good
Lost my voice from last night my throats been killing me all day lol I was yelling until the end of the game. I really love and appreciate this defense!
I can count on these two things:
1. Sooners D showing up to play
2. OK Breakdown Pod on Sunday nights
As a fan Im super proud of our defense.. IT was fantastic.
Best show out for the Sooners!! I appreciate you guys weekly breakdown!!
Appreciate the coverage, glad my Vols got the win in such a hard hitting SEC game. Never take a road win lightly. I heard y’all’s fans were excellent to the Vols that traveled so thank you for that.
I think our defenses were pretty close to each other but our offense is certainly a step ahead. We were able to get some big plays to turn the game our way. Was a big win for us to get that one done in a tough environment.
All my best to Oklahoma going forward. 🍊
Can someone please ask Venebles why we don't stretch the runs outside more on his Rudy's show?
I needed this today! Thanks for expressing the frustration we all feel! Y’all just earned a new listener.
@@Mindy.Duffey it’s not worth your time to listen to this podcast Mindy. There are better places to get OU sports talk.
@@marruz0then why are you even here?
@@gigi4OU1975 I am here to raise awareness and to help others avoid wasting their time by listening to teddy and Gabe. I am here because I am selfless and thoughtful in my attempts to educate others.
The fans stayed engaged for the game, but that likely won't continue if the offense continues to look horrific.
We should have won that game....its super frustrating....imo Hawkins is the guy moving forward. Defense was amazing as usual
Should we hire a QB(future OC) Coach asap? Get him in there to at least develop the QBs now and get to know the team to setup for a real OC next season? Because I think we need a hungry OC/QB coach
Isn't any good QB coaches that would come in right now during the season. It would do more harm than good too
Just have to worry about guys jumping into the portal if they feel overlooked
Thank you GABE for keeping it REAL. Honestly during the Tennessee game punting on first down would have gained yards. 🤷🏻♂️ Teddy I disagree. The offense is sooooo bad the coaches are too blame. You literally could do as well getting someone off the street. It starts at the coaches. They did not do their jobs.
There is not an ounce of quit on this defense. Those guys played their asses off. Respect!
On behalf of Sooner Nation thank you! This episode was cathartic.
We're turning our D into a top national championship caliber D
It's moronic to say BV needs the hook bcz the offensive staff can't get it together w a busted up MASH unit on the field
Glad everyone else is seeing it now, we’re not bad fans, we just know subpar play when we see it and aren’t afraid to call them out on it. Gabe, you are spot on brother.
OU ranks 126th in yards per play (4.45)
- last among Power 4 teams.
Only teams with fewer yards per play:
Old Dominion, Louisiana-Monroe, Akron, Kennesaw State, Wyoming, New Mexico State, Air Force, Kent State.
First time I’ve disagreed with Teddy. The play calling is a lot of the problem
Yep
I know a lot of people want Hawkins becaus of his mobility, but I'm sold becaue he looks better passing the ball. Not mechanically, but just decision and timing.
There's a lot of plays that looks like Arnold just has the wrong read. I don't know the palybook, but lots of teams run Q Power with that toss, so I wouldn't be surprised if the fumble was a missed read and then loosing the ball in the pile.
He threw several very nice passes last night.
Just sayin. lol
Agreed!!!
The entire starting 5 WR are all injured. The best RB, injured. Still no Kalib Hicks the entire season. O line playing blind. And now we have a true freshman QB as our only hope going into the hardest stretch in CB other than Floridas schedule… unreal. Seats are getting warmer…
Is Hicks really that bad to not even touch the field under any circumstance?!??
I have no idea why hicks hasn’t seen the field? It can’t be any worse than what’s been put out there right? I also don’t understand why any young cats aren’t getting any playing time?! Head scratching shit!
Thank you!!
Last night was tough. The defense was fantastic, but Arnold's turnovers were too much to overcome. If Hawkins had started, I think OU would have won.
His first snap of the game and his very first snap to Hawkins were both HORRIBLE
Our transfer linemen have been disappointments.
My Sunday therapy session
Thanks for being able to verbalize our frustrations guys. Great podcast as always!
I irony of the jet sweep being our best play this year…..
Maybe time for true freshman O-lineman to get a chance?
Time for a true freshman offense lol.
Gabe please join the coaching staff
Seth, Listen to Gabe!!!! Listen!!
Seth, resign now if you love the program
Hawkins looked good imitating Simone Biles... won't last long doing that.
At least he has heart and the effort is clearly there. Keeping himself safer can easily be coached.
I think it's safe to say DG would be struggling this year if he were still in Norman with the O Line play.
Yes but he'd be confident in his decisions and getting on his o line's ass to block and protect. A leader
Gabe is saying what us OU fans are thinking but in great detail
I can absolutely feel the frustration listening to this.. Great stuff guys.
Teddy rubbing his head like “oh damn he just said fu*k” madd me giggle instantly
And it's usually Teddy that does the cursing. 😂
Gabe, spot on man! All of this. So damn accurate. It’s also great to finally hear that execution is also the responsibility of the coaching staff.
JA and Hawkins reminds me a lot of Rattlers situation with Caleb Williams.
@@toddasharpRattler had the whole 2020 season and half of 2021 to fix it. Jackson had 3 and a half games.
@@jeremyleforce7926 not the same situation rattler didn’t get outplayed by the back up all camp an there wasn’t a good back up his freshman year
Not at all. Rattler was a million times better than JA is
@@CamPerry that’s fact rattler looked hella good year 1
Feels like the Offensive players don't believe in the scheme or coaches. And looks like none of them want to play. That is extremely concerning!
Am I the only one that thinks Gabe would be a great addition to the offensive coaching staff?
Super tough game to stomach from an offensive perspective. The defense gives us a reason to be hopeful going forward. Imagine if we would have had this level of defense during the Riley years, we would have won two or more National Championships. Even though it was a tough loss to take, it somehow helps to have Gabe and Teddy break it down for us and get their expert perspective. All we can say to the Vols at this point is: Sooner or Later We’ll Get Ya!
Proud of the way our defense played. Played their hearts out.
Woodi and Bowman got worked for TDs and big plays. Heupel knew their tendencies of giving up leverage across the field and/or cheating the box.
That’s exactly what I’m saying. They’re still 2 undersized under talented DBs from Grinch era. Will be very happy when they go
Facts Tenneese fans wont admitted he play call conservstive to not turn the ball over
And we still more than covered the spread in your stadium, that’s a fact too isn’t it? No hard feelings, good luck the rest of the season.
@@MsReadyrocc Yes… up 22-3 in norman 3rd qtr with a fr Qb why throw downfield and risk t/o. Vols are a rush team first and have 4/5 backs that get carries
Damn Gabe got my blood pressure up again,i had just got it down😂
Remarkably close game for Tenn being bigger stronger and faster almost everywhere
"I guess he can't count to six🤣?"....damn
OUch!! 😂
Great analysis from Gabe, thanks, man!
Jackson Arnold is Panickan Skywalker at this point. He’s a one read quarterback who instantly reacts like a deer in the headlights. Have to make a change there. That throw into triple coverage sealed it for me as he had time to make a better decision.
@brysonbarnhart5275 Panickan Skywalker!!! 🤣🤣🤣
vol fan here, welcome to SEC! Sooners fans are awesome!
Agree on the INT- from the TV angle, looked like a definite completion the way he threw it, and time he had to throw, which was rare. Then straight into double coverage, completion to the wrong team.
We changed QB’s but at what point does OU replace Seth at OC if he continues with poor game management? Would Emmet Jones be a better choice for OC?
Oh boooooyyyyyy, here we go
With all the craziness that's going on I just want to say that I appreciate all the fans showing their support like they did you guys really showed out in front of a national TV audience. Boomer..
Michael Hawkins reminds me of Bryce Young whenever he was at Alabama the way he moves.
Without an Oline
Hawkins does have that quick release going. That ball he threw to the sideline was friggin bullet, man! Either catch it or have it surgically removed...😂😂😂
Thank you for being Sooners and thank you for your candid comments. The word that came to me watching the offense was incompetence. Almost complete incompetence.
Man...if we didn't turn it over like we did, it would be 10-3 at halftime.
The turnovers are what killed us and let Tennessee play with a relaxed mindset--game is won dont allow any big plays.
If we had no turnovers, it would have been 10-6 or 10-10 at halftime. Remember they fumbled on their 5 and JA gave it right back first play.
Starting a petition to get Ikard hired as the OC
At least as a consultant.
This is what I love. These guys tell it like it is. The guys that are playing on our offensive line have to be decent athletes. Find their strength and develop plays that play to those strengths.
Good job guys. Very honest assessment. Coaching made our O-Line look worse. Defense was AWESOME!
This offensive line situation reminds me of Mike Stoops final 2 seasons.
I love Ted and Gabe they keep it 10000000 no matter what good or bad they will tell you like it is !!!
Don’t forget about the free field goal BV gave them when he went for it on 4th and 14
Please Gabe, somehow, add OU OC-Consultant to your long list of job titles. You've probably got the pull to actually make it happen. So spot on with every criticism of the offensive play calling.
Gabe doesn’t actually know what he’s taking about
@@marruz0 You obviously don't know what you're talking about..
