Ernie Reyes jr is a good friend of mine. He did the stunts for Donatello in the original and played keno in the sequel. In his mid 40s now and still an awesome martial artists.
The TCRI was on a production prototype of the original canister prop. It was never seen on film, but it shows how well NECA did their research. The ends of the canister also pop off! PLEASE GIVE US A SHREDDER!!!!!!
Mine finally arrived after 3 months of putting the order in, and I've gotta say, videos make it look half as good as what it looks like in real life. I'm absolutely blown away. Can't wait for the other 3. Good job, man
+Ryan Tran not sure cause that's a direct competition with playmates. Doing this in this scale avoids that and allows them the license in the first place
optibotimus makes sense, but what about the case of superheroes movies like Batman vs Superman, when multiple companies are making the same 6 inch scales?
+Ryan Tran not sure the licensing on those. I think they had to be sold with movies and were fairly old characters not made anymore. Like the Batman Begins figure
Wow. I cannot believe the detail that NECA has put into Donatello. I can't wait for the other turtles, especially Raphael. Ever since I was a kid, I liked the color red and Raphael was my favorite turtle. What's surprising is that Playmates couldn't even get their version of the movie turtles with the dimples, the black dots, the pebbling and even the different color tones. Like the yellow on Donny's nose. To this day, it still blows my mind how they shot themselves in the foot when it comes to extra details. I know. They were repaints from the cartoon versions of the turtles. But you can still use the existing molds and touch it up a bit. What Playmates had are nice figures, but with no extra details and questionable/scary articulations. What NECA has here is outstanding. I think what would've been better is that NECA can make different faces on the turtles. Not all of them, but the ones that just stand out. Like the scene where Donny's laughing and you can see the guy's mouth through his mouth. His skateboard would be neat and maybe his bib that he had on when he was eating his pizza. Now, I' m normally a guy who would prefer action figures over 1/4 scale figures. But with this, I would still be pleased whether it's this one or the downscaled ones. Overall, great video and can't wait to see the other turtles. :)
Donnie went for preorder on BBTS back in April soon as I saw it I preordered mine. At that time it was set for release in June. Sadly that didn't happen and date was moved to July then moved to August and now here we are in December. 9 months in waiting with anticipation. Now Ralph is on preorder and is set for February. I do hope and pray that he comes out the month of February.
I can't wait till i get mine! I found one off ebay after searching forever, was so glad, because Donatello is my favourite one! Should be here in a weeks time. Cost a heck tonne more due to being in UK, but so worth it, great review btw!
How do u have this when it wasn't even ship yet? I ordered mine from BBTS back in April been waiting forever. Believe I've heard some where that there shipping on the 12th of December. I'm hoping to get it before Xmas.
optibotimus don't know I guess I missed it or something i went back and dumb me still don't understand what I missed. U someone who works at BBTS or for neca don't understand Sorry for bein dumb and clueless lol
Michael Castaldi II I don't work for BBTS or NECA, sorry. I don't know the release dates on things, that's up to them, Donnie here was actually for sale via NECA on Amazon and Ebay for a short time, but sold out. I'm not sure when BBTS is getting their shipment, you can try contacting them
Simply outstanding figure! How can anyone not like the 90's version of the Ninja Turtles? OK, they were puppets in a sense, but you could interact with them! Not like the CGI versions of the recent movies, but they still look pretty amazing in their own way. Got only this to say about this review: Cowabunga dudes!
Neca better keep a paint consistency because they're known for changing paint apps for separate releases. When I see all on the shelf there should be a uniform look to them. Not a lighter shade of green for a turtle or soemthing.
A+++++ Review!!!! NECA blew this out of the water!! Congrats on NECA,Trevor and team!!!! Amazing figure for an amazing price! Awesome review well done!!! "EXCELLENT....."
Actually in Secret of the Ooze, the company was TGRI, and not TCRI. Makes me wonder if it was the original TCRI in the first movie, and we just didn't see it.
This is a canister from the Secret of the Ooze. TCRI wasn't shown in the first movie at all. But TCRI IS the company that was from the original comics, which the first movie, gained most of it's influence. Which undoubtedly is why NECA decided to put that on there
This is absolutely perfect. One BUT. Hope to see another version with happier expression in the face. Would be amazing to have a head from TMNT II (1991) to swap. Or another figure accurate to TMNT II. The second film was funnier, more jokes in general.
fantastic review. I dont purchase 1/4 scale figures either normally but the moment I saw these I was all in. glad to finally see a definitive version of the movie turtles that look as accurate as this does. mine comes in Wednesday and it can't come soon enough!
To be completely fair, Playmates real skin movie star versions weren't bad at all for the time. If you have the room I agree, these take it up to a new level.
Looks amazing, but I'll stick with my 30th anniversary ones despite not looking exactly like the films. Would be nice if they included the skateboard that he had in the movie too!
***** Dude... not everyone's got the finances for EVERY figure that comes out. If I'd known back a couple years ago that these things were coming out, I'd have waited. I've bought a ton of stuff this year as it is, and I'm running out of room for it all. Not to mention I only make minimum wage as an 18 year old and that once I finally get out of the house I'll have to make enough to juggle bills and stuff like this. Settling for what you have at the moment is fine sometimes.
Leopold Litchenstein Oh, i totally understand finances and such but your post kinda just makes it sound like ''those'' are good enough. They are, imo, an embarrassment to the movie turtles, ESPECIALLY coming from Playmates themselves.
so sad it took sooo long for us to get cartoon and movie accurate figures, and not been cooper costumes. Kids these days don't know how good they have it. we had to struggle before times got this good.
Thanks for the review man these are the figures we've been waiting years and years to get. I would love to have them all but the're almost double the price in Australia. I have Ralph on pre order tho.
Well honestly, there is a better range of motion in the Mondo one. He also comes with a LOT more accessories. So i feel price wise, they're fairly decent. The Mondo one is like $150 while this, at a 1/4 scale is $100. To me, i think this figure is a little higher priced than it should be
I've never really done that. It adds a considerable amount of time to a review. I go through the articulation so you should have a solid idea of what the figure is capable of though
I didn't even know the first movie existed until like last year. I grew up watching the 2nd movie on VHS, but I just assumed that was the only movie. I'll need to make time so I can watch the 1st one someday.
Friend Zone I had it recorded on VHS, it didn't have the title or anything. It was always just "that Turtles movie" to me. Plus I was like 7 back then, kids are dumb.
Do you want to know one of the flaws of the 1990 movie that bothered me? the belt of the Donatello costume that action figure represents was too close up to the chest and the reason why that was is because the costume makers had made the shoulder strap too short. They also had did the same to the belt of the the Leonardo costume too. They should've made the shoulder straps of the belts of the Leonardo and Donatello costumes longer so their belts would always be directly at their waist throughout the entire movie.
It looks cool, but 1 thing I really don't like is how high that belt is on his body. I suppose it's accurat to the movie, I'll have to rewatch it, but I feel like it should be a little lower. Otherwise he looks good.
I had every intention of just watching this to get my fill of this figure, since the movie versions aren't high on my list and I need to limit my stuff anyway, but man this looks amazing.
They definitely did a nice job with the movie version... but I prefer the look of the original cartoon. That being said, not sure how much you do with the Bandai S.H. Figuarts, but they did a pretty good job with the original cartoon versions. I'm not sure if they're 100% accurate, but probably the best on the market at the moment... and they take up less space which is a plus.
They look amazing my only problem are that they are to dang big. I wish they were smaller 1/6 or 1/12 or even 1/10 would be better. I know licensing other company have turtles in 6 inch and 12 inch line. it is hard to display 18 inch figures and pose these big figures. you need a big place to display the 4 turtles and what if they release and sprinter or shredder and foot ninja's. man hard time make a diorama
Their license doesn't allow them to sell 6 inch figures of the Turtles at retail. The only way we could possibly get these in that scale would be as a convention exclusive...which if that happened, wouldn't be until next year at the earliest
Great review Paul now I'm even more excited to receive my preorder in. Got Donny and Ralph preordered so far, with Donny preordered looooong ago. I'm thinking Leo will be last. I took on your challenge and hit the "like" button lol. XD But what a bunch jerks to give you dislikes there was nothing wrong with the review maybe they are "Transformers only" type collectors & they don't like you doing TMNT? Idk
Both are kind of right. TGRI was what they used in the Secret of the Ooze movie and later versions. TCRI is what they used in the comics. That part of the canister was never shown in the movie, but due to the fact this movie was heavily influenced by the comics, while the Secret of the Ooze took a more lighthearted, cartoon approach, it appears NECA put TCRI to homage the comic roots
I suppose my point is Playmates has not improved with time. TMNT II figures of '92 held up well in that period. The 30th anniversary figures of '16 do not hold up well with today's standards.
Mike Ecko *sigh* I've explained this so many times already. I'll do it once more lol. In the original comics...the ooze was from the Utroms. They had a secret company on earth called TCRI. The "C" stood for cosmic. When the Secret of the Ooze came out, that movie was more influenced by the cartoons. They also removed the Utroms from the cartoon, going with just one being called Krang. When they made Secret of the Ooze...they kept with this and didn't have the ooze created by the Utroms. The company name was changed to TGRI...where the "G" was changed to mean Global. Since the first TMNT movie was heavily influenced by the original comics, with TCRI as the company...NECA put that on the container. That portion of the container was actually never shown in the first movie, but since we know that TGRI was on there in the second film, it's safe to assume it was there on the container shown in the first. NECA though, decided to go with the original TCRI as the movie follows more along with the original comics
I would've preferred having the 1990 movie action figures made in a 12 inch size so they don't take up so much shelf space but still made the tied ends of the mask out of cloth fabric and the slip knots out of ribbon fabric and I wish the people of NECA would have the action figures released at a few local stores "Walmart, Target, Meijer, Kmart, Toys R Us" at an affordable price. I don't care how big the figure is or how much it cost, but I'm going to try to get ahold of the 1990 movie figures. Anyway, if I had the skills to make the best realistic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles costumes for Halloween, I would definitely use the NECA action figures to have something to go by and I would use a male mannequin in my height to make each costume!
Well not much NECA can do when they can only make what the license allows them. I'm sure they would love to make figures at that size or even smaller, but Playmates has that license and won't allow competing companies make them
I see. Well I'm sure the people of Playmates wouldn't mind at all if the people of NECA had their version of the 1990 movie figures made in a 12 inch size that some collectors (including myself) would be satisfied with.
Don't know if anyone already commented on this and I'm too lazy to dig through the comments but, it's actually "TGRI" not TCRI. just saying in case nobody mentioned it. Too large of a detail flop not to mention. Great fig though!!
PJHVols Very simply. Dew is talking about TGRI...which was the name that the company was changed to in Secret of the Ooze. TCRI is what it was called in the original comics. Which since this movie is mostly based on those comics, they put TCRI.
I CHALLENGE YOU! If you watch the video, don't forget to HIT THAT THUMBS UP BUTTON!! Lets see how many likes we can get!!
Haha, someone heard of Utube's new algorithm!
+Warmachine Vengeance there isn't any new algorithm. That's all speculation

I hope they make a 1:4 Shredder.

Donnie was my favourite. As a kid, I always did that "Yeah. Ye-yeeah!" line from TMNT 2
Mine finally arrived after 3 months of putting the order in, and I've gotta say, videos make it look half as good as what it looks like in real life. I'm absolutely blown away. Can't wait for the other 3. Good job, man
that is one stunning figure. The texture of the skin in particular is amazing
I can't wait to see if NECA do a 7 inch version of them, or even the original cartoon versions would be nice, too.
+Ryan Tran not sure cause that's a direct competition with playmates. Doing this in this scale avoids that and allows them the license in the first place

NECA knocks it out of the park again!!!! The best representation of the movie turtles ever. Great review Optibotimus.

are these going to be in toys r us stores?
will these be made in a smaller scale?
That's the theme song from the original turtles movies, no?
That really brings back memories...
are you gonna review the tmnt prop replicas from factory entertainment?
Great review. Stunning figure. Thanks for showing off the detail between the shell and neck!
OMG!!! I NEED THESE IN MY LIFE!!!

Beautiful figure. I normally stay out of this scale and price range, but this is very, very tempting!
Dang they did a great job on that sculpt.
A+++++ Review!!!! NECA blew this out of the water!! Congrats on NECA,Trevor and team!!!! Amazing figure for an amazing price! Awesome review well done!!! "EXCELLENT....."
can I get a GTG for big bad toy store..
looking to order a few donatello just want to make sure everything legit
thanks
GTG?
Oh MY GOD, That is an AMAZING Piece, Great Review Optibotimus.
Would be great if the Raphael figure came with a trench coat and hat.
iownu92 make a custom one for him! You can do it. Just buy the materials at a fabric shop.
And a Jose Canseco bat.
balgus82 tell me you didn't pay money for that!
Shane Myler it's a 2-for-1 sale, Pal.
Ha ha that movie truly is the best turtles film

excellent man plus i too was a big turtles fan as a kid & still am now as an adult
I feel like the ''tails'' on his bandana are a bit too wide. :x
Absolutely beautiful! Have to make room somehow to display him.
will NECA TOYS make my all time favorite series battlestar galactica stuff Paul I'm big fan 1978 and 05 series
Looks amazing, but I'll stick with my 30th anniversary ones despite not looking exactly like the films. Would be nice if they included the skateboard that he had in the movie too!
+Leopold Litchenstein so it doesn't look amazing enough
Lol, settling for ''those'' movie figures when these are by and large the ultimate TMNT figure based on the film... smart. (Not really)
***** No, it's already a perfect score for me. Just would have been a nice little addition, that's all I meant. Sorry if it came across wrong!
***** Dude... not everyone's got the finances for EVERY figure that comes out. If I'd known back a couple years ago that these things were coming out, I'd have waited. Wow, what a great looking figure. I was going to skip these but damn I'm off to try and find one
I have faith to see a happier face expression in Donatello. Hope to see the sculpting like TMNT II.
I am so happy with these figures. I can't wait for mine. Awesome review bro
Love that movie tune 😃😃 I hope to find this Donnie figure in Belgium!
If we can please just get these in a six inch line along with Casey, Splinter April a Foot soldier and Shredder it would be perfect
I like to think that the actors mouths in the heads are an extra row or teeth in the throat because they're mutants
Thanks for the review man these are the figures we've been waiting years and years to get. I would love to have them all but the're almost double the price in Australia. I have Ralph on pre order tho.
How is this guy vs the Mondo Leonardo, as a figure. I know they are two different characters, the Mondo stuff seems so overpriced compared to these
Well honestly, there is a better range of motion in the Mondo one. He also comes with a LOT more accessories. So i feel price wise, they're fairly decent. The Mondo one is like $150 while this, at a 1/4 scale is $100. To me, i think this figure is a little higher priced than it should be
You should do figure poses at the end to show articulation. But still a great video!
There was also a 3rd movie, but it's not as good and they used a different company for the animatronics (so they don't look as good either).
That Leetri Guy You thought that was the only one even though it was called 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II'?
Friend Zone I had it recorded on VHS, it didn't have the title or anything. It was always just "that Turtles movie" to me. Plus I was like 7 back then, kids are dumb.
nice review give us the size please? 16" or 18" `?
+Rodri Eren Sparrow thanks for watching. I did give the size
*****
oh sorry I'll watchn the video again thanks for your answer
Do you want to know one of the flaws of the 1990 movie that bothered me? the belt of the Donatello costume that action figure represents was too close up to the chest and the reason why that was is because the costume makers had made the shoulder strap too short. Jaros Bodytko its movie accurate
Yes I know, but that doesn't make it any less jarring.
I had every intention of just watching this to get my fill of this figure, since the movie versions aren't high on my list and I need to limit my stuff anyway, but man this looks amazing.
+Jason Sawyer buy it!!! You know you want to!! :p
I probably will now, and it's all your fault! Curse you and those meddling reviews!
Jason Sawyer I kind of like the Deadpool figure more but I know I'll end up regretting not buying this figure later on.
They definitely did a nice job with the movie version... but I prefer the look of the original cartoon. That being said, not sure how much you do with the Bandai S.H. Glad to help! When you get yours, come back and tell me how you like it!
for sure
"Mmaybe you were expecting the Adams Family?"
+kdash20002 EWWWWWWW a tmnt 3 quite?! Lol
optibotimus XD yeah
Excellent, but not interested in 1/4 scale...hope there's a scale down in the future.
+L.A. November 2019 doubt it. But you never know
upgrade your collection to 1/4 and 1/6 those are the best scales for collectibles
Damn near perfect, I just wish it was in a smaller scale
Playmates did a better movie rendition in 90's for TMNT ll than the recent 30th anniversary. Glad NECA gave us proper TMNT l figures.
+Grabber Orange lol those tmnt 2 figures weren't much better honestly
I suppose my point is Playmates has not improved with time. TMNT II figures of '92 held up well in that period. The 30th anniversary figures of '16 do not hold up well with today's standards.
WILL YOU DO 1/4 DEADPOOL TOOO?????????????????????
great review. I can't wait to get this. But TCRI is supposed to be TGRI. from Tmnt2
This isn't the container from the Secret of the Ooze though
Mike Ecko
*sigh* I've explained this so many times already. I'll do it once more lol. In the original comics...the ooze was from the Utroms. They had a secret company on earth called TCRI. man but I also love that Deadpool figure. decisions decisions 😓

Well then you shouldn't have commented cause it's been talked about a lot actually :P
It's actually TGRI not TCRI lol they screwed up
Actually...they didn't screw up....shows how much you actually know :P
optibotimus can you explain? I thought it was techno global research industries....TGRI
PJHVols Very simply. Dew is talking about TGRI...which was the name that the company was changed to in Secret of the Ooze. TCRI is what it was called in the original comics. Which since this movie is mostly based on those comics, they put TCRI.
