It's funny how in the past I always skipped intro's of shows. Now, the intro of this show has been made a part of my nostalgia-mode, where I'm actually fine, or even comforted by just hearing the words again watching an episode! Interesting how these things seem to work! Classic Star Trek is getting to that point with me as well XD
Even as a kid i always skip the intro of Star Trek and that is on VHS tapes. I start rewatching the old series(although they are a lot) and even now where the skipping is way more easy, i am not doing it. Just the nostalgia hits hard. The same with X-Files, i dont miss this intro.
In some ways my favorite findings on MB were the ones where no, x can't do all of thing y, but it's actually impressive how much of y the x CAN do. That and reconfirmations of how dangerous (and very cool) pressure vessel failures can be/how compressed gases are never to be underestimated.

Makes sense; it does take 8000 lbs of force to pull two apart. Friction and laminar armor is surprisingly effective; the only reason it isn't used is weight and volume. See also: Whipple shields
It's open when she is shooting ... there seems to be a lot of offscreen footage, when cari shoots that door with the Shotgun, you can see there is already 2 holes in there, but the slow-mo shows other holes .. so there is several recordings. Not sure why they glued single sheets of paper on the cars side windows in the last rounds .. so this at least looks like being made up to some degree.
Exactly. Burn Notice Season 2, episode 11 'Hot Spot'. The "myth" is not 'proof' but just 'resistant' and also specifically mentions 'Non-armor piercing bullets' - so the "myth" as mentioned in the series is *confirmed* by what is shown in this episode of Mythbusters.
41:10 Though I don't think anyone would be lugging around a .50 cal. I mean that thing is big and heavy and when shooting at people doesn't actually do more damage than A M14. If you're not expecting to be faced with an armored vehicle there is no real reason to lug it around.
The advent of the Internet, search engines, and smartphones in the 21st century greatly reduced the need for a paper phone book. Some communities, such as Seattle and San Francisco, sought to ban their unsolicited distribution as wasteful, unwanted and harmful to the environment.
At 44:58 you can see something written on the bomb but I can't quite figure out what it says. To me, it looks like *_"To Asania - with Love"_* and *_"Calineras court Bomb"_* but I'm not sure. I went through the comments of this vodeo as well as the same video posted on other channels, tried to look it up online but no luck... Does anybody know more about this?
I guess the lower part means "Calaveras County Bomb" - That "lake" seems to be in "Amador County" / CA which is a direct neighbour of Calaveras County .. so maybe it has something to do with that .. but I have no clue what the first part could mean .. but was fun trying to find something out about your finding :-)
@gabrielv.4358 Burn Notice Season 2, episode 11 'Hot Spot'. The "myth" is not 'proof' but just 'resistant' and also specifically mentions 'Non-armor piercing bullets' - so the "myth" as mentioned in the series is *confirmed* by what is shown in this episode of Mythbusters.
This video kept reminding me of that one recording of the Beirut explosion with the people on the jet skis, and how they dived under water to avoid the shockwave. The comments were saying that if they didn't dive their ears would've likely been ruptured. Nice to see an actual myth being proven right.
@xX_H347H3R_Xx I recall Mythbusters also explored underwater explosions. The advice for divers was (no surprises there) to go up on the surface. Considering that dynamite could be used to kill fish and does so due to shockwave, kind of obvious result.
The .357 Magnum will push a 125gr bullet at 440m/s from a 4" barrel, while the 9x19mm will push a 124gr bullet at 410m/s (in the best case; 350m/s is more normal) from a 4.65" barrel. It can also send a 200gr bullet at 350m/s from a 4" barrel. It's a significantly more powerful gun. Despite Grant's faith in the .45, it's less likely to penetrate than even a 9x19mm round due to having a lower cross sectional energy.
@@Cahirable Must be that the bullet is taller cause in terms of caliber it is identical. 0,357 inches is exactly the same as 9mm. A .45 was selected mainly for it's stopping power. The US wanted a handgun bullet that would not go all the way through a person. On a strange historical note the main competitor of the Colt 45 was actually the 9mm and most preferred the 9mm in the testing. However that was a foreign round that the US would have to pay royalties on so the domestic product won out. Though in hindsight the Colt pistol was superior to it's Luger counterpart.
Re: phone book arbor. I know for a fact that at short range, a .303 softnose round will go through two phonebooks like they were a comic book - even with a human head in front of them.
Oh man Kari was so hot, especially with a gun 😍 I was so in love with her when I was in high school, these episodes remind me why. Brains, wit, style, the cutest moon beam eyes when she smiles. The woman had it all.
The later seasons lost what made them interesting. Time was spent on project windup, grouptalk, production of gizmos, unscripted talk, non-soundbites fast clips. Real people. Not this, fast paced, well oiled mood muzak over every minute of footage. You dont have the feeling that any of the guys were together in a group but were put together in the cuttingroom after filming had ended. I miss seing them enjoying each other’s company.
Explosion on the surface doesn't penetrate the water below, I could predict that. Do they have another episode where the detonation is under the water, and you are also in the water?
Did you really watch the episode? The ANFO explosion burst every pressure disk above and below water while TNT explosion burst all except the underwater disks at 50 ft.
@@JRTO_X I'm talking about when they tested the bombs on the lake to see whether diving underwater makes a difference. But none of those blast discs were the same distance away, which skewed the results.
@@PlutoTheSecond I thought so initially as well. Although theoretically you are right, I did some back of the envelope calculations that show its not that relevant. The explosives are mounted at the same height as the above-water burst discs (5ft). The 5ft below-water discs are thus 10ft lower than the explosives. Thus if you would use a straight-line measure, the below-water discs are located 51.0 feet instead of 50 feet from the source, the 10ft down ones are roughly 52.2 feet away. Probably some wind tilting the platform would have a larger effect on the distance. It makes sense of it if you think about it graphically as well. To have an equal distance to the explosive, all discs would be points on the same sphere. If you expand the sphere (increase the radius) whilst keeping the distance between points equal, the curvature would become smaller and smaller, until it is practically a straight line. I do think they could have located the discs more strategically, where each 'depth' burst disc is located on the same sphere around explosive, but I suppose this is 'good enough'. After all, mythbusters is entertainment in the end, not a true scientific experiment. What might be more relevant though, is the angle of incidence of the shockwave to the water surface. Classical mechanical wave mechanics are not my field of expertise, but I suspect that a shallow angle might give rise to a 'total reflection' phenomena similar to other waves such as light or electromagnetics arriving at the boundary of two different impedance media. A good example of these are reflections in water when viewed from a small angle (light will be reflected like a mirror), and glass fibers for internet. I wouldn't be surprised if an explosion is more 'directly overhead' more of the energy is transferred into the water and thus the person diving, but at greater distances and thus shallower angles a sudden drop of energy transfer will occur after which you are much safer. Of course, energy is transfered over the entire surface, so the 'safety zone' would likely be somewhat hemispherical in shape. Anyway, thats just my guess. I am sure someone specialized in wave propagation (especially wave propagation in fluids) would have a more accurate answer (or perhaps some simulation results).
@@PlutoTheSecond Ahh I think I get what you are saying. At (29:50) the most direct path, if you were to draw a triangle and follow the hypotenuse, from the explosive to the rupture disc isn't the same length for the varying depths. Perhaps they thought the effects would be negligible?
"Jamie, we need other people to break their legs while filming" "Adam, great, we should." Meet Tory. Yeah, nice.
