The shot to end all wars... Arrow signifies the end of tyranny... Her aim be true as her heart is pure... Yup, Katniss accomplished everything Coin said with that shot.
It probably accomplished nothing, the real player was Plutarch. He was just smart enough to not take the position of president for himself. Coin, Snow everyone is just a steping stone for him and the people like him.
When I first saw him, I realized that something was off about him. He seemed different from the previous game master and then it turned out he was a spy.
Wlee09 yes it was. In the book, the pill was in the shoulder so they could just turn their heads and bite it. She turned her head to bite it, but bites peetas hand. She yells at him, saying “let me go” and he just sits there calmly, and says “no.”
Something I liked a lot about Katniss in the books was how much she thought about things, but how little she actually said. To others, she was typically quiet, passionate in her action, but often insightfully disturbed in her thoughts. She really felt like a girl that was just going through the motions. A malnourished hunter from a village of coal miners, propped up to be some kind of revolutionary symbol. Poor girl.
@@jessievecchio Yeah I guess that's the point I wanted to make: book Katniss is very insightful, since the whole story is basically her internal monologue. And then in the movies she's just quiet, well adjusted, and healthy looking. Like I would imagine a more faithful adaptation would have her narrating the whole movie, with everything outside of her attention being out of focus. Probably could of gone with an actress that had a more rugged look as well. Someone with RBF would of been great.
Honestly I love Snow's ending, he knows he lost and that this is it, yet when he realizes that in the end he triumphed over Coin he goes out in laughter. That's the practical joke, the end of Tyranny no one saw coming.
He's also killed not by Katniss, but a literal stampede of people beating him to death. Coin's death was the symbolic end to an era of tyranny. Snow's death was the rage of the countless oppressed people that suffered from his actions and rule.
This scene has so much more depth to it. Like we truly see the connection between Snow and Katniss. They have a connection of always being truthful to one another. Thats how she knew what he said was true.
That and also Coin suggested they make another Hunger Games amongst kids from the Capital, which proved to Katniss that this woman would not be beyond taking such extreme measures (disguising bombs as Capitol gifts and dropping them on innocent lives including children) to win a war.
@@pubusi4253 selfserving like taking her whole team on an assassinationmission instead of saving them all only to take revenge on snow? she killed nearly the whole squad in this opperation.
Snow laughed not only because the person who was responsible on his downfall was killed. He was satisfied that his favourite girl, the Katniss, The Mockingjay, his favorite player, the first to cause revolution to the Capitol... actually was up to his standards and proved that Katniss was not a pawn. A free spirit that will not be owned neither by him or another figure like Coin. Knowing his last sight was the very person who reminds him of his past, his significant history with District 12, "his" Lucy who went for "Katniss"(a herb) , his karma and proof of his whole existence that he had lived the life he chose and face the consequences of it.
2:03 the moment Plutarch realized he is the first person to truly win the Hunger Game. He was a masterful gamemaker. He managed to play Snow and Coin to bring Katniss to prominence and lead the rebellion, and then used her to get rid of both to usher in a new era.
I love how nobody thinks to attack Katniss. They just all got for the evil dictator and not the person who failed at her job and killed the new president.
Jack Kornowske they are more worried about killing the tyrant that treated them like animals for years. Katniss might’ve been next after they finished.
Cavan Reed the citizens didn’t know about Coins misdeeds. They didn’t know about the explosion that killed a bunch of children, or that she sent Peeta to kill Katniss. They might’ve known about the hunger games she was gonna do. But the point I’m trying to make is, people were probably pissed and really shocked at Katniss for killing their new president. I’m sure people would’ve been calling for her head after they trampled snow
It really bothers me how Katniss has a whole quiver of arrows instead of one like in the book. If my memory serves me right, Coin didn't really trust Katniss all too much and I think that's why she only sent her out with just one arrow so she has no choice but to kill Snow only. That and because I think the quiver is just an awkward attachment to her whole ensemble.
Why exactly does she put herself in the firing line then? If she was behind Katniss then she would have time to react to her turning around to shoot at her
She was only sent out with one arrow in the book; it was explained to be a symbolic gesture, “the last shot fired in the war” or something along those lines.
Snacké147 Plutarch admires Katniss. While they were all working together in the rebellion, it’s pretty obvious that Coin was pretty domineering and just going to take Snow’s place. So Plutarch knew that Katniss made the right decision in killing her.
That's conviction right there. To shoot someone on your "side" because you know they're evil... knowing it likely means your own death as well... it was in that moment Katniss became the purest, most honorable of person in Panem. Even Snow himself couldn't help but respect her for it.
What i respect most in Katniss is how real she is. She doesn't think about how others see her. All she does is what she feels is right. No one else could have actually shot that arrow like that. History doesn't work that way. Others would have held the show up, killed Snow and then poisoned Coin in an intrigue. She doesn't. She feels that Coin is the criminal here. Therefore she shoots her. She doesn't adhere to social rules, doesn't care about what is expected of her. To me, that kind of spirit, that kind of independent thinking is a real hero. She could never be corrupted.
I only disagree because in the series SO MUCH of her story *was* actually political intrigue. She agonized. She spent months to years performing as a celebrity for winning a killing competition and had to CONVINCINGLY pretend to be in love because she feared for her loved ones. She went through another killing competition, and it was only after she experienced the horrors of war, lost her dearest ones, and then lost Prim, that she could have seen this exact outcome through. Katniss never would have agreed to Coin's suggestion to have another Hunger Games with Prim around. Coin took everything from her and had already shown signs of fascism (two sides of the same coin). Katniss was absolutely doing what she thought was right in this moment, you're right about that. But that realness did only come after plenty of situations where she didn't act against tyranny and lived to regret it. That's what's so cool about her development!
@@SMFAHgirl98 yes but see, that was always what SHE thought was the immediate thing to do, whatever the danger was. It was never about politics for her, always about how she felt, who she cared for, and how she could angle the circumstances with those factors in mind
@@dominicweber Agree with you, she was pretty much in survival mode throughout the entire series, she was trying to get through to the next day, she was never thinking politically of how the future would actually pan out. Fortunately fighting and surviving was what she did best. Snow let her live in the first games as he underestimated her power as a weapon for the rebellion and Coin used her to win. However he (literally) had the last laugh when Coin thought Katniss was broken but Snow realised she was still a weapon that could be turned against a new much worse tyrant.
Redhawk1004YT no, she wanted to kill him, but she wanted his death to be a much more deserving one than an arrow to the heart. He deserved to suffer just like all the people he had tortured through the years. She killed coin because she didn’t want another hunger games. She knew it would just start a whole new conflict. And she also authorized the bomb that killed prim. So no, she technically didn’t want to kill snow, but rather she wanted everyone else to wreak havoc on him as they please.
"The point of my arrow shifts upward. I release the string. And President Coin collapses over the side of the balcony and plunges to the ground. Dead." - Katniss Everdeen
Plutarch foresaw this. His character deserves more credit. The smartest man in the whole trilogy - always several steps ahead of Snow and the rebels. What a genius.
I don't think he foresaw this. But he did want this to happen. He knew Coin was just the next Snow. And he also knew that Coin set the death of Prim in motion. He was not suprised at all about what Katniss did. He was honestly just sitting on the sideline, being a game maker, pushing everyone in the direction he wants, not knowing exactly how the game is gonna turn out, but enjoying the process of it all.
Yes, I'm pretty sure that when he meets Katniss later in private and says something like "You can still surprise", they both know he is not surprised at all and knows perfectly well why she killed Coin. After all, he does not even bother to ask her - or try to pretend he disapproves.
imagine if he is the one who persuaded coin to stand in above snow lol, to show that she was the president , but really so Plutarch can show Katniss and for Katniss to make the decision to see the resemblance and possibly kllher
What I love about this scene is the way Katniss has her arrow leveled at Snow, but she's aiming at Coin with her eyes. So when she looses, all she has to do is line up the arrow with her eye line and release. It's such a little thing, but so cool

Funny thing, I actually liked Coin at first, I thought she was a strong leader and that's exactly what the resistance needed at the time. But by the end she showed she really cared about power and everything the resistance worked for was just a means for her to attain it. She was really the same as Snow and as her name implies just the other side of the coin.
Coin is actually a lot more sympathetic in the movies. She makes you believe she actually cares about Katniss to some extent, that her heart is in the right place. But then in Mockingjay pt 2 the red flags start getting bigger and bigger. In the book, she’s a red flag from day 1.
@@willowkat27 I haven't read the books, just watched the movies, and her being sympathetic and believable actually makes her more dangerous. The scene when Snow talks to Katniss and explains Coin's plan and how she played the both of them against eachother is brilliant and unforgettable.
Not worse but equally the same, coin wanted revenge and for this to happen she wanted another hunger games but for the people in capitol only (also probably the careers districts) or the districts that didnt help with their revolution.

Love that after coin is done spewing her bs, we see snow smirk at Katniss, almost as if asking her “Well, what do we think about that, we both know it’s all lies”. They had a very deep connection and I love how it was seen here. He knew where Katniss’ arrow was going before she pulled it from the quiver.
RIP Donald Sutherland, His role as President Snow is (in my opinion) his greatest acting role ever! Thank you for bringing President Snow to life in a way that no one else could have. You will be missed
I watched the movies but I read the books later, and it made so much more sense for her to do that. I don't remember how Prim died here, but in the book it's so good how she describes that she relized that she and Snow had a deal
The movie showed how prim died, snow even told her its not him that bomb the capital. She later learned that snow wasnt lying when coin proposes another hunger games.
honestly my favourite moment. i was so happy when she shot coin in the books, and seeing it on the big screen brought a big smile to my face. katniss really is one of my favourite main characters ever
Katniss' move is incredibly deep and powerful message to tyrannists: "we removed Snow, and he's about to die. And if you plan to become another tyrant, we'll kill you too" 1:32 Instead of fearing tyrants, she put fear into tyrants.
Plutarch, is the unsung hero of this movie. He recognized everything and how to put it in place. We all identify with Katniss, the reluctant hero, but he look on his face when Katniss released that arrow, priceless. He knew he'd picked the right one at the right time. Of course he pardoned her, it was probably better than he'd ever dreamed of.
Say what you want but Snow is one complex villain. He has a peaceful and might I say, mocking smile on his face even at the moment of death, like he expects Katniss to figure it out and do the right thing. Credits to Suzanne Collins for creating such a character.
I see his smile as a more practical thing... If Katniss kills him, Panem ends up with yet another tyrant, possibly worse. If she kills Coin, Snow deprives her of her price. Snow was already dying, it was just a matter of how the game would end.
This may be a weird analogy, but their adversarial bond was close and intimate it was almost like that of Harry Potter and Voldemort. They probably knew one another more deeply and fully than anyone had ever known either of them. That they loathed each other and knew that eventually one would have to die only makes the paradox deeper and more tragic.
This shows the importance of Trust and Honesty. What saved Snow was him always being truthful to Katniss. If he had lied to her even just once, she wouldn't have believed him. It's because of her trust in him, built by his honesty, that she chose to shoot Coin. They conversed through their eyes and that's how Snow was able to convince Katniss to stop Coin as she is just another 'Snow'
I like how snow didn’t break his state towards katniss until he was pulled by the crowd and katniss never looked away from where snow was except for when peeta stopped her from killing herself. shows how no matter how much they hated each other, the amount of fixation each one had to the other was tantamount.
I love how Peeta is always there to keep Katniss alive, even though Capitol has turned him into a monster to kill Katniss, the true Peeta in him is stronger than Capitol ❤❤❤
Camila Hernandez I know I’m very late, but she also killed her because she knew that either way, snow was gonna die. She also knew that Coin wanted to have the hungers game but with kids form the capital instead. She knew that if she just killed snow, coin would be in power. If she killed coin, snow would die either way. That very smart thinking on her part!
That and to stop someone worse than snow from taking over. What sealed the deal was Coin intending to continue the hunger games with the capitol children
"Mockingjay, may your aim be as true as your heart is pure" She deserved to suffer, but her fate was most fitting. There she stood, on the precipice of absolute power, ready, willing, and about-to-be-able to continue the depravities of Snow and the Hunger Games, but without any moral compunctions whatsoever. She patiently conspired and schemed, allowed for the other Districts to suffer for 75 years until at last came along Katniss to spark the fires of rebellion. Her final words made me sick, but her moment of triumph literally shot down and the sight of her falling both literally and figuratively was poetic justice and delicious irony mixed so perfectly together. I only wish we could have known her final thoughts before she entered the void...
You know what I find funny about this? Not just the fact that she was shot down in her moment of victory, but the fact that in doing so Katniss effectively ended the games. As Snow pointed out, She was going to continue doing the exact same things he was doing and in the end despite the desire to avoid the districts fighting each other for survival, they ended up doing the exact same thing in her war. It could be said that the battle itself was a continuation of the Hunger Games. Snow was a dead man no matter what happened now, if Katniss doesn't kill him the crowd does, if the crowd doesn't kill him, he dies of his own accord. By now he is a nonissue. Coin was going to take his place and do more of the same, but Katniss ensured that the games ended with her death. I wonder how much of his laughing was because he realized that the girl who started everything, the one he saw as a pawn for either him or his enemies ultimately ended up being the one to declare checkmate. I imagine her final thoughts were either wondering how things could have gone wrong or cursing the Mockingjay for ruining everything. Just my opinions.
Think it was because the last two movies weren’t quite as strong as the first two. It goes from a story of life or death games in a post apocalyptic world to one of political intrigue. It works for the overarching narrative, but I personally thought the first two movies were more engaging. Didn’t help that the third book was split in two, meaning the first part was mostly just set up.
The SCORE in this scene is absolutely stunning. The warped vocals as Katniss aims, and the crushing, dramatic orchestra as the chaos unfolds. James Newton Howard is incredible.
Peeta saving Katniss after being hijacked is probably one of the best moments of the mockingjay. His genuine _hurt_ at the idea of someone who he was brainwashed to want dead, trying to kill themselves really solidified to me that, while he's not completely cured, he was able to fall in love with Katniss again and that's something the Capitol can never take away from him
She was so gorgeous in this scene! I was only disapointed they didn't put only one arrow on her back. In the books, it symbolizes the last shot for the freedom
the first time watching this i was questioning why she killed Coin, but after studying and understanding what she was doing and baso becoming the new Snow.. it makes sense. I LOVE THIS FRANCHISE
I like how with Coin's death the message isn't revenge (if it was so, Snow would also be held accountable for his crimes against Katniss' home & father), but it's not "NO MORE DEATH!" either. It's "no more games".
I love it when it said in the book that Snow had the same expression as he said to her moments ago, “I thought we agreed never to lie to each other.” And she realized he was right.
Katniss' look is a mixture of anger, hate, sadness, tiredness, betrayal, loneliness, heartache, despair and so much more. Jennifer Lawrence did a spot on job
Not really, because I'm sure that Johanna would rather have a leader killed that is basically going to continue the hunger games rather than a person who is already dying.
Snow made an entire speech about how he is not wasteful. Catpiss payed attention and decided not to waste her one arrow on the tyrant that was already dying (in the books she only has one arrow).
Its amazing how bloodless Madame President Coin's death was. Katniss shot her IN THE HEART and yet, her suit is pristine as she lays there dead. It WAS interesting though.....that moment shared between Katniss and Snow where she aims here arrow at him. They share a long look between them and then she shoots Coin instead. I think in this moment she realized that Snow was telling the truth when he spoke to her in the rose garden. That COIN was to blame for Prim's death and her team's death and Finnick's death....and all the rest. And to Katniss, that was unforgivable. Coin had to pay for those deaths.

Poor girl.
Everyone really did underestimate her, didn’t they?
It’s a relatable torture!
the thing is she was made to appease women, and women want the character to be them, not them being the character
Yes she doesn’t have a lot of dialogue. Especially in mockingjay
Yeah, he's laughing at the irony. Honestly if I were him, I'd be laughing too.
He's also killed not by Katniss, but a literal stampede of people beating him to death.
Coin's death was the symbolic end to an era of tyranny. Snow's death was the rage of the countless oppressed people that suffered from his actions and rule.
But in the end, he was beaten to death by the people he harmed over the years.
I think Snow had a feeling she was gonna kill Coin, I mean just look at his expression as she's about to shoot the arrow!

That's why he's a Gamemaker; not a Tribute.
Fantastic character
I love how nobody thinks to attack Katniss. They just all got for the evil dictator and not the person who failed at her job and killed the new president.
Jack Kornowske they are more worried about killing the tyrant that treated them like animals for years. Katniss might’ve been next after they finished.
No they all knew that coin was just gonna turn into the next snow so they didn’t even care when Katniss killed her but they did want to kill snow.
Katniss is the people's hero, she comes from nothing, she has infinitely more trust from the crowd than Coin.
Fruz but she is still their president. I doubt people were pleased with her
It really bothers me how Katniss has a whole quiver of arrows instead of one like in the book. If my memory serves me right, Coin didn't really trust Katniss all too much and I think that's why she only sent her out with just one arrow so she has no choice but to kill Snow only. That and because I think the quiver is just an awkward attachment to her whole ensemble.
Sowon Nim just finished reading the book and it was just one
Why exactly does she put herself in the firing line then? If she was behind Katniss then she would have time to react to her turning around to shoot at her
Coin actually didn't like Katniss at all that's why she sent Prim to death
She was only sent out with one arrow in the book; it was explained to be a symbolic gesture, “the last shot fired in the war” or something along those lines.
My guess is that they did it artistically, in that a full quiver like that looks better than just one arrow. Maybe. Heck I have no idea.
2:04, his look says it all. He knew she was as smart as he thought.
Jdawg 25 Waiy wdym?
Snacké147 Did you not watch the movie?
Yeah, he believed on her.
Snacké147 Plutarch admires Katniss. While they were all working together in the rebellion, it’s pretty obvious that Coin was pretty domineering and just going to take Snow’s place. So Plutarch knew that Katniss made the right decision in killing her.
Jdawg 25 I did
That's conviction right there. To shoot someone on your "side" because you know they're evil... knowing it likely means your own death as well... it was in that moment Katniss became the purest, most honorable of person in Panem. Even Snow himself couldn't help but respect her for it.
Tbh she didn't care about being killed as she was going to kill herself right after with that nightlock pill
However he (literally) had the last laugh when Coin thought Katniss was broken but Snow realised she was still a weapon that could be turned against a new much worse tyrant.
this is so random but the potterhead in me makes me think she is such a gryffindor for this lol
@@hottiegirl4814 she absolutely is
In the book Katniss only had one arrow. If it was like in the movie, she could kill both, Snow and Coin. I think they shouldn't left out that detail
I think that Snow was supposed to wear that rose over his heart, too.
I mean, from the way the crowd erupted and rushed forward, it doesn’t really matter if she had multiple arrows. She did what had to be done.
Helena Dizdarevic she didn’t want to kill snow tho
Redhawk1004YT no, she wanted to kill him, but she wanted his death to be a much more deserving one than an arrow to the heart. He deserved to suffer just like all the people he had tortured through the years. She killed coin because she didn’t want another hunger games. She knew it would just start a whole new conflict. And she also authorized the bomb that killed prim. So no, she technically didn’t want to kill snow, but rather she wanted everyone else to wreak havoc on him as they please.
She wanted the people to kill snow, that's why she didn't shoot snow, she gave him the people's judgement
I like Coin's outfit though. So pastelly.

Well, besides the blood
"The point of my arrow shifts upward. I release the string. And President Coin collapses over the side of the balcony and plunges to the ground. Dead." - Katniss Everdeen
Plutarch foresaw this. His character deserves more credit. The smartest man in the whole trilogy - always several steps ahead of Snow and the rebels. What a genius.
I suspect that he more than just foresaw it. Katniss finding Snow and being allowed to talk to him may have been more than just a coincidence.

Yes
She pressed shift to switch targets.
Her makeup is gorgeous
finally someone gets it. When my parents say "You will never want to wear makeup," I have to say "Aww.. I really like her makeup"
Katniss' move is incredibly deep and powerful message to tyrannists: "we removed Snow, and he's about to die. And if you plan to become another tyrant, we'll kill you too" 1:32
Instead of fearing tyrants, she put fear into tyrants.
Coin was literally asking to be murdered with her hands all out
That was intentional
Say what you want but Snow is one complex villain. He has a peaceful and might I say, mocking smile on his face even at the moment of death, like he expects Katniss to figure it out and do the right thing.
Credits to Suzanne Collins for creating such a character.
And that laught... So well done.
The symbolism is so good. Coin is just a gray shade of Snow.
And good old Phil Hoffman just sits there and thinks
"Huh. You clever girl."
The way Snow is laughing at the end, makes it sound like he is starting to sob when he sees the mob converging on him. Awesome acting!
Imagine if she bowed like in the first movie after she shot the apple

That would have been kinda badass
We all know how epic this scene was, but can we talk about the background music?? Dang

"Oh my dear Miss Everdeen. I thought we agreed not to lie to one another."
I like how snow didn’t break his state towards katniss until he was pulled by the crowd and katniss never looked away from where snow was except for when peeta stopped her from killing herself. shows how no matter how much they hated each other, the amount of fixation each one had to the other was tantamount.
In the books, Katniss are always talking about how perfect Coins hair is
I love the fact that the point of the arrow is crystal clear. This was really the arrow of truth.
Thank you for pointing this out, this really adds to the scene omg

I love how Peeta is always there to keep Katniss alive, even though Capitol has turned him into a monster to kill Katniss, the true Peeta in him is stronger than Capitol ❤❤❤
What a great villan, he makes worth to watch all the movies. RIP Donald Sutherland
Im pretty sure one of the main reasons Katniss killed Coin was because Coin bombed all those children which resulted in the death of Primrose.
I’m sososososo glad I’m not the only person still active in this fandom
2:08 the music for Coin’s death still gives me chills up my spine
"Mockingjay, may your aim be as true as your heart is pure"
She deserved to suffer, but her fate was most fitting.
The Hunger Games is one of the best movie adaptations of all time. Weird how it kinda disappeared in pop culture
It's coming back with the prequel novel that is going to start filming soon
Snow literally had the last laugh...
Plutarch smiling is the best part! He knew it, Katniss did it again.
Gotta admire snows bravery here, in the face of certain death, he still laughs about the situation he created
He knew that he was going to die anyways, he was done either way.
“May your aim be as true, as your heart is pure”
“Imma bout to end this whole (wo)man’s career”
How little did she know that her "speech" would be about her own demise! Bravo Katniss, well done!
Jennifer Lawrence is so unimaginably beautiful in this scene it almost hurts.
her face is gorgeous
The SCORE in this scene is absolutely stunning. The warped vocals as Katniss aims, and the crushing, dramatic orchestra as the chaos unfolds. James Newton Howard is incredible.
Peeta saving Katniss after being hijacked is probably one of the best moments of the mockingjay.
His genuine _hurt_ at the idea of someone who he was brainwashed to want dead, trying to kill themselves really solidified to me that, while he's not completely cured, he was able to fall in love with Katniss again and that's something the Capitol can never take away from him
I love how in the book, there is only one arrow in her quiver, really symbolizing the ending shot of the Hunger Games and their inhuman tyranny
She also ordered the bombs that killed primm
@@christopheranaya2850 Prim 😭
Rip prim rip😢😔
still feel bad for Kat because of Prim's death
The true embodiment of "two birds, one stone."
I like how with Coin's death the message isn't revenge (if it was so, Snow would also be held accountable for his crimes against Katniss' home & father),
but it's not "NO MORE DEATH!" either.
It's "no more games".
snow is such a good actor.. hes sitting there so calm.. waiting with anticipation like this is a joke.. i love his acting
I know killing Coin is for the greater good, but Johanna must’ve felt so betrayed from Katniss not killing Snow
Not really, because I'm sure that Johanna would rather have a leader killed that is basically going to continue the hunger games rather than a person who is already dying.
Yeah when I was reading the books it disappointed me because Katniss promised she would kill him
Snow made an entire speech about how he is not wasteful. Catpiss payed attention and decided not to waste her one arrow on the tyrant that was already dying (in the books she only has one arrow).
@@shannonchang2614 johanna wanted the new hunger games for the kids of the Capitol, she voted yes
@@socio637 But didn't realize that Coin was willing to sacrifice their allies for show business.
2:06 I LOVE Plutarch's quaint smile. He knows what she did was right. Power Corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely!
RIP Donald Sutherland
