  • Date: January 5th, 1969
Location: Whisky A Go Go, Los Angeles
    Tour: 1968-1969 North American Tour
    Number of performance: 30
For this occasion I bring you the third of the nights at the Whisky a Go Go, this being the only one to "survive" and be recorded.
I worked with the best sounding source, and remastered it, puting some nice touches that the old version didn't have, and making it as fluid and complete as possible.
This is the first recorded show of 1969 and the band was billed with Alice Cooper as their opening act.
Fun fact: They were all really sick, specially Jimmy Page, they all got the flu (probably because of the gigs in Scandinavia, or the one in Spokane with freezing temperatures).
    00:00 Intro
01:34 As Long As I Have You
    12:49 I Can't Quit You Baby
    18:57 Train Kept A Rollin'
22:13 Babe I’m Gonna Leave You
    28:25 Dazed and Confused
    39:34 Killing Floor
    44:14 For Your Love
    Headphones recommended.
    Here are some cool statements:
    Rodney Bingenheimer:
"I was at the Whisky A Go Go, and it was Alice Cooper and Led Zeppelin, and I emceed the show; I introduced them. I remember afterwards, backstage at the Whisky Jimmy had a really bad case of flu, and he was practically turning green."
    Alice Cooper:
"We did a show with Led Zeppelin at the Whisky A Go Go which holds maybe 300 people, and nobody had heard of either one of us, we were just local bands as far as LA went. It was really a fun night. They all had the flu, so everyone was throwing up backstage. But the fact that Jimmy Page was in The Yardbirds was a big deal for us, and I’d just met Robert Plant and these guys. They were great, we really got along, but we had to flip a coin to see who was going to go on first. Nobody had any say over it because we were both unheard of, so we kind of condescended and said, 'No, we’ll open for you guys because Jimmy Page was in The Yardbirds.'"

This is from my original tape I believe. I freely circulated it and boots appeared quickly. This version sounds good. Wish there were photos. At the time I was just happy the "Yardbirds" was reincarnated-- but still not quite there live. Notice how the Audience was relatively subdued.

@@lemonboots6380 Hey Lemon! Any chance you’re going to continue this project. I listen to these boots nearly every day and I was curious if you’d ever start on 1970 again which was a monumental year for the band.
Also curious if you heard the Irvine 1969 SBD snippet of You Need Love? If you continue this series how do you plan on integrating it into this? I would assume a playlist with them in order would be best.
Also just curious if you’d be interested but I am a professional video editor! So if you’d like some help redoing your Royal albert Hall video I’d love to in anyway. I know how frustrating losing an entire project is due to a computer.
      Anyways all the best!

Great version of As Long As I Have You (my new favorite LZ song!) 6:35 one of my favorite Led Zeppelin moments. Jimmy Page is peeling off some Slowhand on that number. as well (while he's still on a Fender!). Props to E.C.! What a performance from beginning to end! Best Bonham performance of Dazed And Confused i've heard. Amazing stuff! Thank you Lemon Boots for this cleaned up and most complete version!

such a great heavy version of "for your love"....much for ferocious than the yardbirds version....jimmy must of bit his tongue when playing with the yardbirds...they truly had no idea of jimmys vision....and the talent of the boys in LZ

As Long as I have you is a Garnet Mimms song. At 3:56 into that song they start playing Fresh Garbage by Spirit, whom they toured with...and heard Taurus. So, even if it was accidentally, Jimmy had heard that riff before. Take from that what you will.

He never needed a double bass. His right foot was so fast it just sounded like a double bass. I know a drummer who can do the same thing.

My ex had that Spirit album and played it frequently. Imma total Zep head, and never thought that Stairway sounded like Taurus. Never heard the connection at all until the lawsuit. Why didn't Randy California sue? Sounds to me like his family wanting to make a buck. Musical artists have been sampling and borrowing from each other since music began. The local tribes share songs, and each tribe is welcome to make it their own. It's become a sue me-sue you world
