    I'm currently working on a monologue, and this video helps me soooo much! Thank you for the great advices! I didn't know why I wasn't "feeling" the scene, now I know how to make it better and more realistic! 😊

    My acting teachers told me to do this. She and he said that one of the most important things is to know and form your character or else you won’t sound realistic, she makes us repeat the lines over and over again until she “believes us” lmao. In my mind, I feel like I know my character so well and I can say my lines realistically and probably even improve if I have to, but when it actually comes out of my mouth, I feel like it sounds so fake😔. Any suggestions/tips?

      K C Believe in yourself and don’t think about it, in fact think of something similar to the character.

      K C Imagine you a plate of oranges, now if you can juggle them that would make you feel ecstatic right? Well, if somebody took your oranges away but you need to impress your son/parent because their horribly sick. It would depress you right; having developed the only skill you have taken while your family is sick, only reacting to juggling because their a vegetable state.

      From my point of view if what you're doing is thinking about how to say your lines is gonna make it sound fake, what i do is read the scene, do all my scene work and then just improvise the words, forget about the text, just improvise them, then you can start learning your lines MECHANICALLY, so no emotion, and eventually you'll get there❤

    THANK YOU for making these videos!! One question about getting into character; when getting into character, is it better to go off of research or personal experience?

    • @TheActorsAcademy
      @TheActorsAcademy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      It’s up to you, whatever you feel like will give the best performance. Remember that Acting is simply playing a different version of yourself, so it’s not really recalling memories like one would if they were trying to be a method actor, but one should play off themselves or different sides of oneself.
      In terms of research that may or may not have a huge effect (depends on the actor), but nothing is wrong with combining your research with your work as it may inform who your character is. There are some actors who love doing a lot of research and others who work more through the imagination or actors who will do both. Research is there to assist you in building your character. If it helps you on certain roles than use it, if it doesn’t on others than don’t. In the end all anybody wants to see is a good performance :) hope that helps.
      Let me know if you have any further questions. Cheers!

    I get the entrance. But regarding the exit, if the character doesn't know what happens after the current scene, (like in life) how can we let that affect him during the present scene? Apologies if I've missed something and thanks again for the great work you do. Excellent work man. I respect your mission. You are helping a lot of us.

    • @veedori4411
      @veedori4411 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It's more like a plan. Like what the person is expecting to happen. If he knows he'll be alone for the rest of the day he will behave differently than if he'd planned to go out with some friends. Sure all of those friends could ditch him and he'd still be alone, but he wouldn't know that during the earlier scene, so that wouldn't be the exit on this scenario.
      Hope that helped 😅

      Don’t worry it’s not a bad question. The important thing to remember is that the entrance and exit is a tool for an actor. So for example, if you are doing a scene and you realize something is missing from it, you can use this tool to sometimes make up for it. You can either choose to know what will happen after the scene (the exit) or you can choose to not. Whatever you feel is best. But if you had to do a scene and you needed confidence to ask your boss for a raise, having an idea of what your exit is may help. For example if you know when you leave this room that your best friend is gonna offer you a job at his high paying company, than you’ll have more confidence asking your boss for a raise, because if he says no, you have another option, which in real life may give us the confidence we need. Again having an entrance with this can also help.
      Now the nice thing is, you get use whatever works for you. You create the stories. You also get to decide which tools you’ll want to use for a part (depending if the part your playing is giving you any problems).
      Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any further questions :)

      @@TheActorsAcademy Hey, thank you so much for taking the time to provide such an in depth response. I really appreciate it, and yes this makes a lot more sense now. I am an avid watcher of your videos and you have been an IMMENSE help. Question:
    Does it come off as diva-ish (I guess) or rude to ask if you can change an outfit as you're not comfortable in it? Because like, I don't want to be mean...

    • @TheActorsAcademy
      @TheActorsAcademy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      To some people it may, but you have to remember that you’re going to have to be the one wearing it, so your opinion is far more important than anyone else’s. You get to decide how you want to be represented and treated within this business, so if you don’t want something make it clear (of course within reason, don’t be upset if you don’t always get to have the biggest trailer on set or something of that nature). If you can get an idea of what types of outfits will be asked to wear ahead of time, that might be a good idea, but if you find out the day of and you don’t want it, make it clear.
      Remember what everyone wants is to get the best performance and scene done possible. So if you need to, you can make the ‘excuse’ that you just can’t give the performance you want with the costuming and usually they will try to accommodate if you are clear about it. If you are uncomfortable at all, it’s not unreasonable to ask. Remember as much as you are working for them, they are also working for YOU. It’s a very important thing to remember. If you treat them with respect, they should be expected to treat you with the same.
      One extra note, pay attention to the projects you are auditioning for. If you’re auditioning for a movie like Baywatch, most likely you’ll have to wear revealing clothing. If you’re not okay with it, it may be better to not audition for it, but if this is a movie like Night at the Museum and they spring a Baywatch outfit up to you, than you could argue against it.
      Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any further questions. Cheers!
