Exactly, Pierre! Multilayeredness is the key characteristic for EXO in general: complicated multilayered music and vocals. There's never a flat note but at least 2 or 3 layers of vocals, even in their solos. That's why it was so important that each one in EXO can sing, even the rappers. They're used as a second layer to the main vocalists, my favorite combinations are Chen+Kai and Baekhyun+Sehun. Unfortunately, kpop doesn't favor baritones and they're trained to sing like tenors (just look what they did to Kai's beautiful natural baritone, it's not utilized properly), but SMEnt producers are smart enough to use baritones to warm up and add depth to the crystal clear, high and rather cold vocals of the main vocalists. EXO all types of vocals and sub vocalists usually double one of the main vocalists. That's why when one of them goes to the military there's always someone to cover his lines in a concert. I love baritones more, Kai's warm velvet and Chanyeol's coarse almost crusty baritones are my favorite.
