Not to mention, when you handle the individual bird cards, you activate a sound file of that actual bird :-). That is sweet, and something that a boardgame can’t do. If you always listen to the music in the game, you might not notice it. I never listen to game music, because I find it distracting. So I immediately heard the individual birdsounds, when they were activated.

Nice review! I own the physical game and came here trying to get clarification on the single player mode (is it weak AI, unfair AI or simply the Automa mode). You cleared that up pretty well; thanks! I play a lot of games solo but very interested in this digital version for all the quality of life improvements it offers. You noted a bit of disappointment with the lack of single player modes (and I agree a campaign would be awesome) but I really like how they have included the Automa. I find it to be a decent challenge but a pain to micromanage the actions. In a way that provides 2 solo game modes with 1 staying true to the heritage of SM's physical game

Great points! Coming in to this game as a fan of the Automa variant definitely makes it much more accessible and gives you an additional single player option. It would just be great to have a way to learn that version of the game within the digital version, for those who may not own the physical copy or not understand what the Automa version offers. Glad you liked the video, thanks so much for checking it out!

Thanks for the review. The only thing I could potentially complain about is the lack of direct interaction, which a tabletop version may offer better. But I love the game anyway. :)

    Does it support TOUCHscreen Laptops?

I've been side-eying the physical game for ages, but never bought it since my regular gaming group usually isn't too much into too strategy heavy stuff or games where everyone has to think too much - the game's currently in sale in the Switch online store, I'm really tempted to download it ^^

I spent money on both the mobile and pc version and I can clear up some questions you might have (just ask and I'll check).
So far people mostly ask: can you can play offline? And the short answer is yes, you can.
    The more detailed answer is:
The game has the option to play against an "automa" player (whatever knows what the difference between AI and automa is), which you can configure with, besides the three normal ones, a "custom difficulty". And besides the "automa" player (which can't be replaced with "normal" AI) there is an option to add up to three AI's, each configurable in three different difficulties. But, these can't be customized (as much) like the "automa" player. So you can add up to four opponents, making a total of five player games.
I suppose the "automa" is different from AI because it is more configurable. But really, it's just AI, isn't it...?
A question i had myself is: is it cross-platform compatible? Can someone play with steam whilst you have the app? And the andwer to that is yes. You can invite someone by username.

As the video explains: It seems like "Automa" is a specific single player version from the board game. It has rules that it follows and it simulates AI for people who have the physical board game. It's replicated here and that's different from "AI" where it's actually the CPU acting as a full player not specifically following any rules.
For instance in Automa mode the Automa doesn't get a player made or collect food tokens or pay for anything or use bird powers. You use a separate automa deck to determine what the automata does.
Presumably it's there to add another feature. You can play against AI players or you can do the single player mode from the board game (aka Automa).

I love the relaxing sounds and concept but got confused with Automa, and stopped playing. I will go back and search for normal mode.

Great review, thank you! Such a beautiful digital version. I have a clarifying question - so if I play multiplayer with friends (local co-op or online) do they need to have purchased a copy of the game too?

I haven't played the iOS version but I imagine they'd be very similar.

i find it very unclear to know who's leading, until the end of the game when the total score is calculated.
i only played vs the AI, but it feels like you're not really competing against the opponents, but just focusing on your own little thing.
    it's a great review, thanks!

I’d suggest the version found on Tabletop Simulator instead

@@liamshave5915 having played the app for a bit now. I’d say the TTS version it better to learn the game. Since it’s less automated. But I think it’s actually no longer available on TTS now.

Hmm it seems like a good adaption but not for me. It sounds like I wouldn't be able to do much with it unless my friends purchased Wingspan on Switch as well. Which is a shame because I played it once on tabletop and I get it now. I understand the hype. I want to try it more but I don't think it's worth the cost (even the currently discounted one) for *just* solo play and it sounds like that's what I'd be doing. I'll have to wait till next game night and play the physical version.

    Physical edition: 10X money.
    Digital edition: X money.
I simply don't buy/own board games that have a digital edition anymore...

      @AllYouCanBoard  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I can understand that. I will say that the physical version of this game is a joy to play, the components are top notch.
