The LED Light Stick LC500 from Godox looks like a light saber or wand and its "magic" is its versatility and sheer pleasure of use. The Light Stick is 22" long with a diameter of 2" and its 516 LEDs have a color temperature of 5600K or 3300K to meet ambient conditions, match other fixtures, or just for creative effects. Light intensity is variable too, from 10 to 100% to meet your subject's illumination requirements. While its output is omni-directional, it can be shaped and directed by the included barndoors.
The Light Stick's handle makes it a shoe-in for hand-holding and use as a hairlight, side light, or main light for selective lighting and distinctive portraiture. Additionally, the female threads on the base of the handle allow stand-mounting and hands-free use. A wireless remote control with 16 channels and 6 groups is provided to make adjustments at a distance. The Light Stick has a built-in Li-ion battery that gets two hours of run time on a 2.5-hour charge. A padded carry case is furnished for storage and transport.

Dropped the crap out of mine as well twice and it's still working perfectly. Seriously durable light!

To disagree with you and most of the commenters, I actually strongly prefer it this way and think going to a bicolor panel would be a huge mistake. I want that extra stop of power. None of these battery powered continuous lights are bright enough. This one happens to be 1 stop closer to OK than the competition. That's a good thing. For me, the RGB function shoehorned into some of the competition is nothing more than a gimmick. It's not useful to me at all. By including it, you either make the product more expensive or you take away quality from another feature.
For me, the LC500 succeeds because it's a purist implementation of the stick-light concept. It does a smaller set of things than the competition but it does each of those things better. If you take that away, there's no reason to buy it.

Thanks for your well-balanced and clear review. The only thing I miss on this product is the fact that the battery cannot be replaced. If it dies you'll end up throwing away the entire product (or keep it connected to a power outlet). Still, I'm thinking of getting one, it looks like a very versatile product.

Yes, I'd like to see the barn doors revised so they could turn all the way around without removing them. I don't mind the little light leak out of the back much though. I have a small tip that makes flipping the barn doors faster. Put a bright mark on the outer rings so you know where the bump is inside them. The notch they go in happens to be aligned with the divider inside the frosted lens. When I know where the notches and bumps are, I can get it back together faster now. But one of the popular uses of these things will be for portraits of brides. And at a wedding, you look for any way to make setup and teardown of equipment faster.
On a related note, if you close the barn doors down to about 1/2"-1" gap, you start to see some banding/patterning of the light on the subject. Doubling the barn doors so the edge is about twice as far from the LEDs just about completely gets rid of the banding. But then the light won't fit back in it's case.Overall I think this will be pretty useful to me this wedding season. The power of a speedlight is nice but the precision placement you can get while using continuous light is so valuable.
Thank you for all of the time you put into making your videos for us and the straight forward style you have.

Icelight has something special about the color science behind. Having worked both on weeding photography and next day photoshoots, Icelight is the best option, if you have the money!

Robert, you need to start getting a commission from Godox, your reviews keep making me what to spend my money on their lighting.

Will you review the new LC500R? Has RGB and bicolor ability now

Have you seen the Yongnuo 360 mkII? This has bicolour capability and can still go bright if just using as circa 5500k white. Would like to better understand how brightness compares to Godox and your views on 'real world' usability.
Love your channel, you have been a key influence in my decision to sell all my Nikon, Yongnuo strobes and Profoto B2 to buy multiple AD200s with round heads and new mag RK kits.
    Thanks.

Thanks for your video. Do you préfère the yn360ii for the rgb option? Is there a big difference in output? Thanks

I do a lot of food photography in restaurants and usually take two SBL60w with 32" octoboxs on stands. Do you think this Light stick would give me enough soft light to save me setting up and carrying the other gear?

Hello, Robert. I wonder what do you think of the new Came-TV Boltzen Andromeda (slim tube LED light) and Cassiopea (foldable ring LED light) series?

Hello Robert . Is it made by Flashpoint also ?

    • @robhallphoto
      @robhallphoto  4 ปีที่แล้ว

There is no flashpoint version, Adorama sells it under the Godox name because it's not X-series (therefore R2 series) compatible.

Why does the Godox/Flashpoint X1R-N keep SB speedlight backlight on constantly? I cannot find a way to turn off the backlight when connected to those receivers

Can I use mains power with this? Batteries are great for use on location but if I have a full day in a studio its much easier to use mains power..
