I just want to say you are an absolute angel of a mother. Congratulations on the lovely, amazing, respectful, kind, and wise daughter you've raised. You've done an excellent job ❤
And Successful! You forgot to say one of the most important things a mother cares about for their child and regardless of her Autism Abbey is a very successful adult. A lucrative career for awareness, television appearances, music deals and most of all a loving caring and healthy relationship with David. She out performs many adults who don’t have autism with grace. An absolute angel to both of them.
Though I'd add it's also important to emphasize how different autism presents in people. A lot of us get the "you don't look autistic" because we're high-masking and so often go under the radar, so educating people in how wide and varied people are on the spectrum is a definite must.
But autism comes in vastly different forms. If this is your image of autism you're going to be terrified when you meet someone that is nonverbal and lives entirely in their own world. she's fine for a specific kind of autism, but there are much more unpleasant aspects to autism that people also need to be aware of.
Yes Abbey, you're doing a great job at making people more aware about people with autism! You are a wonderful ambassador and very well spoken. Your mom seems like a wonderful support to you! Thank you for sharing your videos!
@iscreamfitness they all come from trauma but they are still trying their best to be a good person. That says a lot about a person's character to me. I hope that answers your question
I accidentally ran across this channel about a month ago. Being a single father is hard my family does help me but sometimes its overwhelming. And these two woman are teaching me so much and thank you....if no one has watched the show love on the spectrum check it out. I started watching lastnight and it is amazing
From one divergent to another: Abbey you might just be my hero. Keep living your bestest and never change who you are or how you live your life for the typical kids.
I've never been so invested and want to see a group of beautiful people win in life more than yall! Truly! You're truly making a difference in the world!
It’s so wonderful to see such a sweet person and kind soul like Abbey and her group of friends and family who support her and help her succeed. Go Abbey! 💜🔊🥳🎶🤗💜🐱🎵💜
Loving the way you interact with your daughter. My brother is schizophrenic and, I'm thinking more and more over the past few years, possibly autistic. There are just so many autistic traits that go beyond the schizophrenia. Anyway my mother is a very kind and caring person, but i think being a lifelong caretaker to her brother who has developmental disabilities has steered her towards infantilizing my brother. It seems like a fine line between caring/wanting to help and empowering to autonomy. Also talking to them like they're anyone else (which they are!). Relating to them as a fellow person, asking questions about their behaviors and what purpose they serve...vs pathologizing them (but also, like with the replacement stim thing, encouraging them to be socially responsible as well). It's a very subtle but SO IMPORTANT difference between pathologizing/observing and understanding. I think you are wonderful in this and im going to send this vid to my mom. Thank you! Hope you abbey and family are well
That's a wicked tough comorbidity. I really feel for you, and they challenges you must face every day. I worked with a young man who is also autistic, and schizophrenic. Constantly navigating what is real and what is not can be exhausting. Not to mention, keeping the person safe when you're enjoying life out in public. But man, when they're happy, you can really feel the joy. He loves the movie Dumb and Dumber. 😆
@@Tsugimoto1 yeah exactly. he has such a hard time understanding sarcasm/metaphor...he's kind of lost his sense of humor as his sz has progressed and both disorders aggravate each other and make him feel even more shy and isolated. social interaction is just so hard for him. i think he'd benefit from occupational therapy, stuff like what abby mentioned once how she was in speech/social therapy? i forget exactly what she said but you know what i mean. it's really great that autism awareness is a thing now. social acceptance and understanding is kind of the most important thing with any mental health issue. isolation makes people sick. i'm hoping sz/bipolar/psychosis in general can benefit from the same kind of awareness that autism has. we need to protect people when they're at their most vulnerable. and you're totally right, when they're happy, you CAN feel the joy. it sounds like you helped make a difference in this young man's life and that's a really important thing
I'm autistic, have synesthesia, play music for a living, and I'm OBSESSED with cats. My dad even teaches voice lessons too. ...so obviously, I love Abbey and David. Lol We have _a lot_ in common. If Abbey doesn't know about him already, tell her to check out Kevin Richardson AKA "The Lion Whisperer" from South Africa. Dean Schneider is another one. Both are lion rescuers who have been accepted into prides of lions, so they're able to literally cuddle with the lions, play with them, and take them on walks. Abbey would LOVE their videos!!! I watch them almost daily myself. Aloha from Hawaii! :)
Abbey and Momma!!! Thank you for stepping up and out to be a voice/positive example of Autism I adore you and David… you both need your own show 🩷♥️🩷♥️🦁🐯🐻🐅🐆🐘🦒
Just stumbled on this video, lover her on the show with her bf, they are a great couple and are great ambassadors for kids with similar special needs!! PS, loved hearing u guys singing can you feel the love tonight!!
Christina...Abbey touches my heart like none other..You did a wonderful job on this lovely, sweet girl..and..she 'aint' drinking no blood😅...I just love her..
Thank you Christine and Abbey for sharing your journey! Lovely family. I would love to hear more about how Abbey developed as a child (I have a 5yr old daughter who was recently diagnosed although we knew she had autism since she was 2)
I know you probably won’t read this but I’ll say it anyways! You’re inspiring so many people. One of my good friends who I have been friends with for half our lives has high functioning autism. I love hanging out with her and she’s so funny. I keep sending her your videos to hopefully help and inspire her. Thank you for being brave enough to get in front of a camera and showing the world about autism.
I just have to tell you that Abbey is tremendously inspiring to me ❤️. Mom- you've done an incredible job raising such a kind, beautiful, brave, strong, funny, whimsical daughter who has inspired countless people👏. Abbey is such a ray of sunshine 🌞. I wish I could be around such positive and authentic people like her everyday. She is a gift to this world and we need more people like her! Abbey, I am so happy you are continuing to put yourself out there. You are not only inspiring, but helping so many people. Its been a pure delight watching your journey- keep being your true, authentic self and never let anyone "steal your shine" (take away your happiness). P.S. I tried buying one of your super cute knitted hats but you were sold out- I'm so happy for you! Hopefully you'll have some time to make more because I really want one 😁 ✨️Best wishes!✨️ Love, Light & Peace be with you! 💜✨️🕯✨️☮️
Abby you are so amazing! You have taught me so much. I love watching you on you tube. You are a beautiful person. Thank you for mak8ng my life happier!😊😊😊❤
Joining on the band wagon of these comments but Abbey really is a credit to her mom 😢❤ i can imagine big sacrifices to give her such a great life 💔💟💟💟💟
Love you both so much!! Thank you for being a positive voice for autism awareness especially since my niece, nephew and my son all have autism. 🫶 And…go Purdue Boilers! 😙
Abbey is an absolute joy and total testament to what a wonderful mother you are. So happy for her and David…though I can’t say that I wasn’t a little gutted when he didn’t propose on your trip to Africa 💔 but they’ll get there 😍
Abbey, you are an amazing young woman and you have a mother who loves and supports you. Thank you for sharing what it is like to have autism. You are an inspiration to many.
You are absolutely part of autism awareness Abbey! I have learned so much from you. Thank you so much for sharing about yourself with us ❤ and by the way you are more beautiful that all the disney princesses.
That was great doing the replacement stimming and I think it's great that she's aware that she does stim. I've been diagnosed with ADHD and I stim also
I love your videos and I love you and abbey!!! Shes so adorable and sweet. My son also has autism and i find him to be so similar to abbey in many ways. Thank you for sharing your autism experience with us all!!! 💝💝💝💝
Hi Abbey, hi Abbey's mom. Thank you for sharing this video. I like it a lot because it is informative and helpful to others. You can learn to have a replacement stim in certain situations. It might not be as helpful or satisfying as your usual stim but it might be more appropriate because as much as others need to create room for us, we also need to create room for them. Yes, I like that idea a lot, so thank you for sharing your helpful way of dealing with something like this. Very cool!
I am also autistic and what i got from this video amongst other things is that she's sad she can't raise her hands above her head sometimes because it feels good and unfortunately sometimes its not a good time... I'd get a seat at the back of the movie theater so i can do it with no one behind ❤️❤️❤️❤️😊
I had the exact same body type as Abbey when I was her age. Please be sure Abbey gets her A1C tested once a year. My doctor neglected to do this which meant the rise in my A1C was not detected for years. Hope you see this comment. xo
Abbey is so adorable. She's so gentle natured and looks like a Disney princess
Ahem, she is a Disney Princess
She really is understanding of her autism and to have such a patient mom to guide and teach her❤
I just want to say you are an absolute angel of a mother. Congratulations on the lovely, amazing, respectful, kind, and wise daughter you've raised. You've done an excellent job ❤
This is almost too startling. The aptitude of her mother and how she handles Autism.
Well said
And Successful! You forgot to say one of the most important things a mother cares about for their child and regardless of her Autism Abbey is a very successful adult. Yes! I love how much you love Abbey and how you just want the best for her❤️
Absolutely!! Mom- you are def the reason why Abbey is such a bright light in this dull sea of people. You are both angels in my book 🙌❤️🙏🏼
Abbey is quite possibly the best ambassador for Autism out there. These clips should be shown in schools to raise awareness at a young age.
Yes. Good point! At least for this clip. *thumbs up*
Though I'd add it's also important to emphasize how different autism presents in people. A lot of us get the "you don't look autistic" because we're high-masking and so often go under the radar, so educating people in how wide and varied people are on the spectrum is a definite must.
She's awesome. Michael from Love on the Spectrum is great too. I could sit down with a beer and listen to that guy talk all day. 😂
But autism comes in vastly different forms. Not only that she is the best ambassador for humans . Im in awe of her and her mom. ❤
She is so self aware and a good learner. She is refreshing to watch
Man you’re an awesome mom.And your daughter is an amazing person. So kind and intelligent
She is definitely an awesome Mom! God knew she would treasure Abbey and sent her to this family as an Amazing gift 💝
Oh Abbey, you are the ROCK STAR of autism awareness.
Yes Abbey, you're doing a great job at making people more aware about people with autism! You are a wonderful ambassador and very well spoken. Your mom seems like a wonderful support to you! Thank you for sharing your videos!
She would make the absolute best friend, good job mom ❤
I work with 60 kids with autism. They make my world a better place to live in ❤❤
Why ?
@iscreamfitness they all come from trauma but they are still trying their best to be a good person. That says a lot about a person's character to me. I hope that answers your question
I'm so happy for Abbey and David!
