About Proko:
Instructional How to Draw videos for artists. My drawing lessons are approachable enough for beginners and detailed enough for advanced artists. My philosophy is to teach timeless concepts in an entertaining way. I believe that when you are having fun, you learn better. I take pride in producing high quality videos that you will enjoy watching and re-watching.
We’ve got more sculpture content on the way! Let me know what kinds of sculptures you’d want to see in Andrew Keith’s sculpture course. We’ll try to include some of your suggestions.
Marvel heroes and if you could anime characters
Detailed human hand! Head triple sized.
Hair... and, if possible, something bringing wind sensation!
Cartoon characters that have exaggerated. Like some that have big heads. I would want to see how you would balance that to not make it tip the sculpture. Although I see that the wires he used look like they could really help.
The fundamentals of sculpting the human and animal anatomy!
I just started with medium polymer clay, so this did help me know what to look for when having to learn basic and further my research. Thank you.
The nice thing about polymer clay is that once you finished the sculpture you can bake it into a permanent piece. With this oil based clay I would have to make a mold and cast it which would be very difficult with all of the spikes. Have fun sculpting!
"Yeah, man. This was a quick one. No big deal."
*proceeds to sculpt something that I can only dream of sculpting*
Haha! It's not as difficult as it seems. It does take a lot of time but once you apply the right principles you'll find you can sculpt whatever you put your mind to!
Practice
Step 1: Get yourself some clay
Step 2: Sculpt a dragon
Easy
Also wire and paper
Your video has floated to the top of the search for this. As your first sculpture not of human form I think you made a masterpiece. Unbelievable. :)
Yus! Sculpting! PLEASE!
WE HEAR YOU! I can't wait to film the course. IT WILL BE EPIC.
This gets me excited to get better at sculpting. I just failed my talent exams for the second time, so I can't start an art school in September. Well, the next exam is in January, so after I finish my current school, I can focus on drawing, painting and sculpting, then try again and hopefuly, finally start studying something I actually like
I was going to go into pre-physical therapy, but then I just decided I loved art too much to not do more of it and I'm happy I made the switch.
@@AndrewJosephKeith I study engineering at high school and I want to graduate this year. I stopped liking it in my second year, wasn't sure what I want to do. Then in third year I started being into art, so I just thought I can finish engineering just in case, to have a plan B (and not lay to waste all those years I spent there) and then go to art high school. Hopefully, as a graduate, I can decide if I want to spend there just 1 or 2 years or if I want to do the full 4. I want to go there to learn something and improve myself in art, because that's what I want to do, I don't really care about having a paper that says I did it, the skill is what counts here and if you want to go to university, they don't care which school you did before as long as you graduated
@@ondraspendlik9759 That's true. If I were you I would just take the art classes that interest you. The proko sculpture course will also have a lot good information. Honestly a lot of the information in the course I didn't even learn from school but rather from other artists that I have studied. In my opinion college is just the most expensive way to learn. If you are truly passionate and interested in something then you will find ways to study it out and learn to improve.
@@AndrewJosephKeith Yeah, I probably wouldn't go to college. Now I'm already 19, I'll be 21 by the time I get to the art school (if I pass on my next try), if I spent full 4 years there, I'd be 25 by the time I get to college, and student benefits end at 26, so I'd have to pay not only school and rent, but last two years also the insurance (which is very expensive), much more expensive travelling, etc. Plus I'm not sure what you even learn in art college, could be useless or too hard for me, so I don't plan to do that (or atleast not as of now). I even got asked by my future teachers if I didn't want to go straight to college instead of doing second high school, but I refused, because I'm not ready for that. I'm gonna self learn during next school year and take a bunch of courses to work under skilled instructors aswell, then hopefully the high school of art.
I'm not sure how Proko sculpture classes work, unless they're online, that's not gonna work, I'm from Europe. The school I want to be at has a lot of art courses, I'll sign up as soon as I finish the current school. Sculpture is probably my strongest art discipline. I'm not saying I'm very good at it (considering I only did it few times, I guess I'm ok), but the main thing I need to improve is my drawing (and I'd also love to improve at painting). Drawing is definitely the number one reason why I failed last two times (I got twice as much points for sculpture than for either of the drawing disciplines). I'll have a lot more time on my hands once I finish the current school, so I'll do my best
After learning the basics, like how to form clay, basic anatomy, and other stuff, sculpting is actually easy
Hey Sir
Great fan
Your lessons Are very helpful
who is here just to watch the talent
There is no talent it is a skill
Meeeeeeeeeee
This is some wicked timing, i was wondering to start real sculpting after doing some digital. I think this video set my decision into stone
And I've thought of learning how to do digital sculpture after doing real sculpture! I'm sure the principles are very similar but what I like about working with clay is that you can feel the forms instead of just seeing the forms on the screen. If you like digital sculpture I'm sure you'll enjoy sculpting with clay.
Incredible tutorial.
this is incredible!
Amazing work. Love what you do with clay.
proko stepped up his game
I used to draw quite a lot when I was a kid, but then I started studying other things, and work full time, and now I'm 27 and just rediscover that passion (drawing). I practice every day and I'm quite good at copying, and my question is: is it possible to get good at drawing just copying? I'm afraid that I wasting my time doing that, but honestly, I don't know what else to do. How can I get better at drawing? I love your work so much. Thank you!
Just practice the same thing everyday. Ive been drawing dragons ever since I was really young and now I'm selling pieces on Etsy! Never doubt yourself
I'm waiting for the sculpture course. I've got really excited when I've seen the advance with those incredible human figures :)
I'm also super excited for the course! Anything in specific that you thing a beginner sculpture course should include? We're still writing the scripts and I want to get out the best information.
@@AndrewJosephKeith I'm studying fine arts and I miss the aspect of how to use the materials. For example, I know how to see the form of a body, but I don't know how to build the body well. I think I just want to learn the step by step of a figurative sculpture.
@@enriqueelfilosofo That's something that we will definitely cover in the course. the first lessons will have to do with building a wire armature with correct proportions. It's funny how building the armature correctly is one of the most important steps of being able to build your own sculptures but I was never taught that in school, I had to learn from another artist with years of experience.
@@AndrewJosephKeith I'm glad to read this. I learn much more seeing Proko that going to school. You are doing a nice job :)
So fantastic! Thank you for sharing your talented work!
Awesome video!!! Very useful tips! Thank you!!!
wow proko it is beautiful
Pls stop!, every time I watch a video of yours I wanna go and try it for myself. My backlog is growing without end, yet I'm still learning values, shapes and basic hand control skills. (T_T)
Thanks for the nice video and on I go to get some clay on Amazon.
Very informative tutorial. Thanks
I wanted dis vid. 4 a long time....
Thanks Andrew. I am also considering getting my bachelor's degree in sculpture from northern Arizona University. Amazing work, thanks for the video and good luck to you on your path.
Hey that's awesome! I've been able to learn a lot while getting my degree and I'm excited to share some of the things I've learned in the sculpture fundamentals course.
That opening though.... loved it.
Great tutorial!
This was entertaining to watch. Really nice content
I don't use Chavant, but the same points will hold up. I'll tell you that you'd forget about keeping tunnel-visioning away so much, glued too much on to working current detail basically become most of the problem D:
Fantastic. Thank you so much
So, I can make this as my first sculpture...?
hi - when will the sculpting course be available?
It’s available now! New videos released each week. Proko.com/sculpture
And then, do you mold and cast it? If yes, what do you remove to most and cast?
I mean for example you mold and cast a fang and stick it with glue on the main part right?
Great question, for this project I never intended to make a mold of it so I wasn't worrying about that too much. If I was to create something like this that I would want to make a mold of I would probably have tried carving it in wax and then dipping it in a plaster mold material several times and then bake it in a kiln so that the wax is burned out and then you could cast it in bronze or resin. You could also do it how you mentioned by removing all the spikes and teeth and casting the main part and then cast everything else individually and glue it back on but that would be a huge project to undertake.
Thank you.
Have you ever done needle felting, and, if so, do you have any advice on doing large or top-heavy pieces?
So will this corse be part of the the othere sculpting corse?
The masterpiece demo done by Zoe Dufour is separate. It also has a lot of great information. The sculpture fundamentals course will be formatted like the other Proko courses with lots of information and free and premium content.
I made this but smaller, and it looks amazing! Ty am for this tutorial.
I wish it was a "how to sculpt" with Zoe Dufour, but still thank you for this content!
Zoe is very talented and her portrait tutorial is amazing! And I'm sure she would have done great creating the course but hopefully I will be able to give some great information that will be useful for anyone learning how to sculpt.
fabulous. thank you so much.
Hi! Great video! I'm new to clay and sculpting, so I have some questions about the clay. Is the clay you used an "air dry" clay? Do you fire it and let the paper/wire burn off? If it's not fired, how do you finish it off with color of any kind? I know these are basic questions, but your video captured my attention!
Nice
Hallo tolle Arbeit ich habe da mal Frage kann man sowas auch erwerben
Hi. What kind of wire do you use????? It is 8 gauge but what type? I can see it's very soft. The dragon is wonderful. I like it :-)
www.ebay.com/itm/Aluminum-Pure-Round-Wire-Dead-Soft-Gauges-Available-8-10-12-14-16-18-20-Ga/301680779768?var=600526866783
Here is a link to the wire I recommend. The wire in the video was actually some scrap wire that another artist gave me but I've purchased my other aluminum wire from this ebay listing, the nice thing is they have 8-20 gauge wire and the more you buy the cheaper it is per foot. Hope that helps!
Andrew Joseph Keith Thank you! :-)
Super dope I love this video 😊❤️❤️❤️❤️
Amazed.
I DIED WITH THE PRESENTATION
I was wondering if you could bake the spikesbfirst then attach with clay glue?
What are the Dimensions of the square of plywood?
Please someone help!! What do u do about the armature when ur going to the kiln?? Is this.. not the kind of sculpting u fire???
is it possible to cook this kind of sculpture into ceramic? does this clay turns into ceramic?
Can you paint this type of clay or will the surface crack up?
Didn’t think a block of clay can get so complicated…dude has magic fingers
haha thank you!
cool, dude!!
This is awesome! =) Thank you!!! =)
You're the cutest thing there is
Siento que ya he visto este video.
My god this is soo fuckin satisfying
Please make more speed draws
Nice very hard 😱 omg
How do you cure this clay?
No it’s oil based.
Waw trop fort le gars
I just got an GoT ad for this video and it used the same music 0.o.
Came for the intro stayed for the paydirt.
👍✨✨✨✨✨
I tried; it still ended up looking like a blob
You have a challenge from xabio arts
XabioArts and juan have a new challenge for you
Idk
Soo early....
Not the first
For some reason, with the dragon looking up, my brain says it’s bursting through its seal and flying out of hell. Pretty random, I’m dumb.
If you would of called it sculpturing shenron
Is there any art form you haven’t mastered…
This is not Stan. It's in the beginning. The sculptor is Keith.
Шикарный дракон получился
Que persona en este planeta no se hace su dragon esculpido en casa

I thinking about selling mine, but my problem is painting. I'm not really good at painting, I'm good at watercolor on PAPER, but acrylic is just. No. Just no.
I dare you to draw upside-down with your mouth and talk at the same time also erase with your mouth
ты русский?
Proko u r a por at what u do.....
Btw...How to not get bad habits while copying…?
