I just did mine, using oem leds, and a spare with ones from mouser. The Mouser ones are definitely brighter, but not intrusive, but the oem's are sweet, and I can now refurb my original ISM with confidence. Thanks for the vid btw.
It's a great little upgrade. Happy to report I followed this on my 2008 car at the weekend and its working nicely. The soldering is precise work but completely achievable with a fine iron tip and tweezers. Thanks Cyd!
Just took a 2003 one of a saab we have in, Opened it up, and leds and resistors all there. Had to check your video first, to know what I was looking for. Thanks cyd
Hi can i get one from the junkyard and modify it so i dont ruin on stock one and also if i can get another one do i need to program it or just plug and play?
Yes, it ought to be. Follow the link to the green LEDs on Mouser and search for the same ones but white. These LEDs are brighter than the OE LEDs. In theory one could change the values of the resistors to dim them (or even make them brighter) but I don't know how to do that. Another point: from photos people have sent me of the finished product in action, i see there is some light 'bleed' around the edge of the interface between the ISM and the gear trim. I've got loads of black cloth anti-squeak tape that I think would fill that gap nicely. If you'd like some, get my email from the 'about' section and get in touch and you can have some for postage.
you can also get the leds from the ddm, acc system if you want a 100% color match, and those are sometimes easy and cheap to obtain or any MIU if you wanna have a christmass tree all leds/colors fit, aslong as you have the resistor correct. Doing this with a hot air station works abit quicker tough and some chip quick (but dont set the setting on max air speed)
This was a great help. Managed to do mine this weekend.... however sadly once reinstalled and dash rebuilt both my keys are not recognised. Never had a problem with my keys before.... any idea why this would change just because I've removed ISM?
Just got a second switch to clean and do this upgrade. Out of interest how much did GM save by not putting the resistors and led’s on the board, I would guess 0.05p per unit
Hi mate, gotta question for you: My saab93 with ignition off the horn doesn't operate but does when turned to on. I can't remember if it's normal or not? Thanks 👍😊
Great video. You are amazing. That 1 resistor is so tiny! Should have shown the struggle of getting it in ha. I'm not sure i can attempt this. Did they take out the leds to save production costs? Or was there a problem with them?
Hi Cyd I would love one of these led icm’s. I have a spare icm that also needs to be refurbished/cleaned. Can I send you this and have you do this? Thanks!
Love the Saab content Cyd, just wondering whether you know anyone in the Essex area with a Tech II to diagnose a randon multiple misfire of my nearly repared 2005 9-3??
I noted that you offered an exchange in this tutorial. As I live in Oz and at the risk of opening Pandora's box is it possible to purchase a reconditioned ISM with leds installed. If so what would be price. Happy to be told. Regards Paul
There it is, the very unusual "downgrade" that I also want. I'll do this next month. At the moment I have a pair of color matched 2003 headlight pop up washers. All I need is to clean, lub, enlarge the bumper openings and check if the 2004+ water pump is strong enough or do I have to buy the 2003 version.
you could probably just raise the value of resistor slightly for the new LEDs to make it a bit easier

Only 2003 had them, but the ISMs are PnP into any model year.
Thankyou😊
Also I think your channel is very informative to Saab owners.
Thank You So Much !!!
I really like saab 9-3 uses green color LEDs and that makes driving experience great.
Yeah, I like the green too. I quite like the blue that VW do in some cars too, but not enough that I'd change the Saab to blue.
Great video 👌 I was lucky - managed to hunt down a 2003 ism and simply did a swap 😎
They're like hen's teeth now
Brilliant, thanks Cyd.
Glad you liked it!
Neat! I'm going to do that to a spare switch I have. Great channel!!
Go for it!
Hi can i get one from the junkyard and modify it so i dont ruin on stock one and also if i can get another one do i need to program it or just plug and play?
YES, they are P'n'P. Or get in touch if you'd like me to do one for you.
@@CycloneCydthanks will try to make one myself if it dont work i will get in touch with you to see if you could make me one
Is it possible to put white leds instead?

Grear work. Gonna try this at my job with our solder station
Awesome. Let us know how you get on
Legend...
Thank you
Saab ref 12786386, 2003 model year only. It involves removing old one and install new one only, much less work involved. That’s what I did 🤷🏻♂️…
That's great if you can find a 2003 ISM. They're like hen's teeth now.
Another great video Cyd, I'd be interested in swapping mine for one of these if that's possible please?

can you use clear nail polish for conformal coating?
This was a great help.

Is the sim car specific? Or can you pull a sim from another car and do this, then replace with the one in the car without programming?

Hello can you still help with the light upgrade?

Cyd, I need you help and expertise on my 2010 Saab 9-5 Aero xwd recalibration climate control. Thnx
Hi Cyd, I’d be interested in doing this in both my Saabs, how could I go about exchanging with you ?
Can you tell me a good cup holder for my 06 93 convertible with a 2.8l v-6
Hi Cyd
I would love one of these led icm’s.
I have a spare icm that also needs to be refurbished/cleaned. Can I send you this and have you do this? Thanks!
I would love to have this upgrade, especially as my unit needs a refresh. How do i get in touch with you?
very helpful thanks
I can't wait to fit it to the car.
Love the Saab content Cyd, just wondering whether you know anyone in the Essex area with a Tech II to diagnose a randon multiple misfire of my nearly repared 2005 9-3??
i placed an order for the fuel injector rebuild kit just wondering when it would ship
any update??
A higher resistance would reduce the brightness as well
Hi Cyd, I have a spare ISM so if I send it to you could you add the led’s for me please? Phil
I am interested in a built unit.
Wow!!! I'm really want to try~!
But I can't even dream because I'm bad at soldering. 😢
I can make one for you
Yes, I’d like to purchase a swap if possible too please! 👍🏽

Just had an aussie from Darwin in,
On holiday so he collected a few parts for his wife's convertible.
You boys get about. 😊
Just got my parts for the upgrade. Question; Lead free solder?
No, better to use lead solder.
There it is, the very unusual "downgrade" that I also want. I'll do this next month.

Hi, what do you charge for this?
Can I enquire about a swap please.
Hi Cyd, how do I contact you about an exchange please?
I believe you've found me now
Like the word issue is pronounced is ue
It’s amazing how us Americans drop the L sound in the word solder!
