    Everybody hates calm days on passages. They turn on the noisy engine and go on. You just wait and make a fantastic episode.
    That's why we love you!!!

      I had the same thought.... just go with nature..only motor if you need to..

    Two things:
    1) Movie you are watching is Legally Blonde (your man-card is safe!)
    2) This is the best footage and audio I’ve ever seen or heard about wild pods of Dolphins! You not only got them viewed from the surface, but you captured them pushing you along and got them up close & personal below the surface. Wonderful, brought immense joy to my heart! Thank you!

    Uma looks so much more comfortable down below than most of the older boats your size. Then again, you don't have a bunch of crap all over the place. Some cruisers have more stuff than the size of their boat can handle. You are setting the benchmark for innovation on an older boat that you made look much younger.

    This....THIS is what I long to see on sailing channels. Sailing, dolphins, a couple in love, and sometimes that icky flopping around. Beautiful footage of the dolphins. Thank you!

    Until about 35 seconds ago, I always believed that underwater lights were a curse - a sign of hanging out way too much with the worst sort of powerboaters. Well, that footage I just viewed changed my mind . Not so much that I'll be installing them, but...
    Super awesome and thanks!!

    Oh my if watching dolphins could be more magical this footage is it. You said it before, if there is wind your sails should be up (not your motor) and if you don't have a schedule just stay still when no wind is with you. Magic like this can happen. I can almost feel it...how magical this must have been for you specially after the rough days before. Definitely the underwater lights make it!. Even with schedule there is always magic waiting for you to notice. Love you guys

    Dolphins are amazing! As many times as Dolphins have been seen helping people, maybe they were wondering why you were adrift so long, and they may have gone to the back of the boat looking to see why the prop wasn't turning. They're very intelligent creatures and I wouldn't dought their abilities for a second. That was some awesome footage!

  • @elliotbudd6097
    @elliotbudd6097 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The dolphins are drafting, its common among individuals usually seen with a mother and calf. The Bernoulli suction, which stems from the fact that the local pressure drops in areas of high speed, results in an attractive force between mother (or boat) and calf (or pod/individual). Second is the displacement effect, in which the motion of the boat causes the water in front to move forwards and radially outwards, and water behind the body to move forwards to replace the animal's mass. Thus, the dolphins can gain a 'free ride' in the forward-moving areas.

    Dolphins are magic I remember about 30yrs ago when up on the bow during a night sail I saw what looked like a torpedo coming straight at us turned out to be the phosphorense around a dolphin shooting straight at us then he just glowed as he rode our bow wave - magic moments you remember for ever!!!

Future upgrade = small cameras mounted outside that display inside the salon ... ? I'm watching in order, so I wouldn't be surprised if you talk about this later or do it in a later episode.

    If you have a pole to hook a mooring rope, you can use it to hold the Spinaker out (away from the mast - this can be attached to the gunwale or even the railing if need be and not the mast) and into a position that you want with various ropes/sheets. Also, if you can move stuff about on the boat to help it lean over somewhat, then that helps give the sails shape, making them more efficient - helping to get the wind started to move over the sail. This will then help create the necessary boat speed that then feeds more power against the waves. Which then helps stop the boat from being so affected by the waves. 10-15º of lean should suffice. Hope you can give these tips a try. They work with small boat handling, not sure how well you can make them work on large yachts, but they should work.

    Y'all are very smart. You roll with what Neptune & Mother Nature gives you. If they give you calmness, you take advantage of it and when they say GO, you roll with it. Some people always seem to be in such a hurry to get from point a to point b. What's the rush? You get there when you get there. And what great company you had. The dolphins with the beautiful clicking and whistling are so darn cute. Thank you so much for capturing such great footage and sharing it with us all. Y'all be careful and safe sails. My love to you both.

  • @tombarker3608
    @tombarker3608 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Another reason I love this sailing vlog. You two are not in a rush to be anywhere. To many other channels when there is no wind they crank up the motor. The two of you follow the footsteps of great sailing ships that had no motors. Safe travel you two.

    Yep, those dolphins certainly were acting oddly. Well watching your video I was thinking to myself you guys I have to take that spinnaker down before it rips and you did it immediately after I thought about it. Then I thought you should take a reef or two out of that mainsail and that is what you did. We must be on the same wavelength. Great video folks.

    My first project, in high school electronics, was to build a way to hear the sounds you cannot hear from them. They can go very high in the audio spectrum and you can only tell what they are saying if you can hear that. My device had an underwater microphone and could decode these high frequency sounds ! 1966
