Tammy is doing well at Roma. He is not incredible, he missed quite as lot of easy finishes as always. All things considered, he has performed to expectations of his transfer fee.
Gotta remember that he's only 24 and playing for the first time in a new league and country where he doesn't speak the language yet. So he'll get even better given more time under someone like Mourinho. His defensive work rate and build up play has gotten much better during his time in Italy. 27 goals in his first season is already a really good tally and next season should be even better.
It also needs to be pointed out that Roma is playing a very different game this year than they did before, they have a lot more of razor sharp vertical passes from further back, with the team center beeing used a lot more and the pace used beeing more counterattacks, while before the team was playing a lot from the sides, so a lot of the players needed to adjust. That, added to the fact that the defences in Italy are a lot tighter, means that he must be more in the goalkeeper's face, so, to that part, he is doing his job very well. They need him to do that, take the ball in the box and score. Others do other types of pushing and scoring, he does that. The awsome with him this season is that he scores consistently and a lot, when the team needs him. The team has learned how to find him, and he has learned how to take this pass and push the ball in the back of the net.
JJ, I always enjoy your videos but... first of all talking of defences in Serie A using one player from Udinese as an example is not much of an argument. They are a mid-table team, but they are quite top heavy (they scored more than Juve and Roma but also conceded far more). As for Abraham vs Batistuta and Montella... It sounds almost as meaningless as the comparison between Lukaku's and R9's first years at Inter. Yeah both Abraham and Lukaku scored a lot (I'd argue Abraham did quite poorly against top 5 and even though he scored against Juve, Lazio and Milan towards the end of the season he could have been quite more decisive), but the general trend in Serie A is that teams are focusing more and more on the attack, while in the past defences were far tighter and the general level was better (I'd say better than the Prem up until the early 2000s). So no, Abraham must show us far more before he even gets close to Batistuta or Montella.
@Ciu Kaso 1- put Zaniolo in the mix. He got worse but he was crucial on the first half of the season. 2- I mostly agree, I do believe the guy has potential, but Batistuta came to Roma as an established and reliable goalscorer and grabbed the title the year he arrived. This year Roma ended up in sixth place and they have much to improve INCLUDING the attack. An this despite Pellegrini being one of the best attacking midfielders and overall players in Serie A. If Abraham will keep it up and help the squad get better he could get to be a Roma legend. But before he gets there he still has much to do.
